99.9% of the time I find what I need before anyone even answers! Found the necklace … Just had to leave the chapel, cross the bridge, and start heading back toward the beginning area with my eyes carefully open!! Hidden in plain site, you old devil !!

I must be particularly dense today: I'm trying to find the tower, but I cannot for the life of me find the Hazardous Waste Area, where it's supposed to lie.

I read all the descriptions in the thread; the most specific one says go to the alcove farthest from the ladder. I'm guessing that's in the canal, as I haven't seen any other ladder (is there another?). But what does it mean, the farthest? The farthest south, which appears not to be enterable? The alcove on the west side of the south end of the canal? This is an elevator that leads up to stairs, which in turn lead to a round elevator platform down to where I found the empty boiler, but no tower.

Or is it on the north side of the canal? I can't find anything there, either. Or am I utterly off my rocker, and it's somewhere completely different?

    Yarg.

@Dafydd: The general area where the Hazardous Waste is can be found south of the large building with the lab, the large crates, cameras, etc. You reach it by going past the poor guy you are not supposed to steal from (alternative directions: stand W of the large building I described, then go S and E around it). The pickable flower is very close to the door to the area you want to.

The 'ladder and alcove' thing being referred to probably means those in the toxic waste pit itself.

    Thanks, Jiansonz!

Now I have a new problem, and I fear it may be unsolvable.

After using the time machine to retrieve the silver gear-key, I used the gas-filled boiler on the assembled time machine. It sticks to the left side of the machine... but I get no warning about an explosion, nor does the machine blow up. When I get close to the attached boiler, it lights up, like it needs another part; if so, I have no idea what that could be.

I then decided to worry about it later and went through the mansion bit; but as somebody else posted, when I got to the bottom of the trap door behind the real mansion, the mission didn't end -- presumably because I hadn't blown up the time machine
    !

If there is some other part needed to make the boiler, already gas-filled, explode, what is it? And if not, then I think the mission is busted.

If it's placed correctly, it won't "light up." Try putting it fairly front and center of the device and it should "stick" to the machine.

No go; no matter where I try to place it, it jumps to the left edge and gives me no warning of impending explosion.

If I just frob the white base, it says, "This is where I'll place the detonation device once I'm ready," which seems to mean that I should attach the Boiler With Volatile Gas to that base.

Here is the exact sequence, starting from a savegame just before adding the fourth part, the tower...

1 The timecritter is already on the pad, and it already has the bent gear-key.

2 I attach the tower to the body of the machine on the counter next to the time chamber.

3 I frob the switch immediately to my left, and it goes from off to on. A safe opens on a wall to my left. Additionally, red and blue beams of light zig-zag across the ceiling. (Yes, both colors after activating the first switch.)

4 I press the second switch (inside the now-open safe); the timecritter disappears, and a few seconds later reappears. At this point, neither of the switches will work.

    5 I extract the now-unbent gear-key from the timecritter.

6 I meander back to the counter with the actual machine I laboriously assembled; the only thing that frobs at this point is the white base (it looks like an upside-down golf tee). I frob the Boiler With Volatile Gas on the white base. It attaches completely on the left side of the machine... and if I move close, it highlights, as if expecting something else (a fuse?).

Note that I didn't blow any gates or do anything extraordinary or drift off the obvious trail.

What's going wrong? Is it fixable? In theory, I could just say I finished the mission and Shift-Ctrl-Alt-End, since I did what should have destroyed the machine, and I went to the area that should have been the mansion.

I installed this FM using the DarkLoader 4.3 full install; I start the mission from a shortcut from Thief2.exe. (I also tried starting the mission from DL, but it had the same problem.)

You need the 'special flare' to light the boiler. Have you found that yet?

Aha, then there is something missing! So where can I find this special flare?

Is there a readable that mentions it? If so, I don't think I ever stumbled across it...

I can't remember whether there's a readable or not but I'll quote Ricebug's post earlier in the thread.

All right, once I found the Useful Flare, I was able to complete the mission properly. But I still never saw a readable about it, other than in here. Thanks, nikkie!

Curiously, both when I completed the mission and when I just Shft-Alt-Ctrl-Ended, when I quit from the game, instead of dropping me back into Windows, I got the error that Thief2 had to be terminated (black screen except for that alert window).

    Loot?

I am 100 loot short, and the loot list by Ricebug says there is a gold ring on a skeleton's finger at the top of an elevator shaft that's worth 100 gold. Which elevator?? I swear, I don't recall seeing a skeleton anywhere in this mission!

    Thanks for any help.

The elevator is found in the huge water cave, where the cool water effects are located. Take the vator up and you'll find your skeleton.

Um... cave? Could you tell me how to get there? (Is it inside the poison water building? Or down the elevator where the green monk patrols, behind the "area closed off" door? Can I get to it from the main waterway - that is, the one with the bridge over it?) I appreciate the help, but I'm still clueless. Sorry!

At the start of the second half of the mission, after getting through the door where the blue monks patrols, go down the stairs and there is a chest to your left and a gate to either side. Find a way to get through the gate on your left.

Further hint to get into the proper room: find a lever to shoot and open the gate

Oh thank you thank you!! I have found it, and completed the mission with 100% loot!

I think what tripped me up the most was that the loot list said "NOTE: All loot is found in the first part of the mission." So I thought "it MUST be in the compound before you go through the locked gate, it just has to"... and spent a few hours running around and around checking every pixel... DUH!

Well, thank you again for not leaving me hanging! XO

What are you talking about? Are you saying there are no objectives at all?

Just had a chance to play this mission and it was great. My only issue was after entering the mansion and watching the credits, the game stops responding and I have to right click and close it. But not a huge issue. You guys did a great job.

    t2fm return to tarn hill

I'm playing on hard and I miss one item to make Maggy happy. I found the flower, the bottle of wine and a key named "jewelry box" but I can't find the box... it's the last objective to end the mission.
