"exceptional and widespread popularity" and "enormous sales"? That was not Thief 4 for sure, lol
    Thief 4 got 'mixed' reviews:

Thi4f was always intended as a blockbuster product. *Intended to be*

The whole game is set to be a blockbuster (a popolar product with a wide range of customers) but ultimately fails to be something for everybody and old T1/T2 fans too.
It's really a failed distorting mirror image of Thief 2 that was never intended to be popular in 2000-2001 (Quake 3 / UT era) but it was and today it is still relevant

The same thing that's integrated in the game, just as a separate application.
Thing is, I'd like to be able to play while FMs are downloading.
    Thank you for considering!
You can use your internet browser and download many (perhaps all) missions from https://www.thedarkmod.com/missions/. I think that will do well enough.

    Took 30 hours to download
    Brought back dialup memories

Next time I'll keep the old one on my pc and just update it

Unfortunately "The Painter's Wife" doesn't seem to work for me. Halfway through loading the mission, the game crashes. Other missions work okay.

Are you using TheDarkModx64.exe, which is the 64-bit client? Many players have reported being unable to load the mission on the old 32-bit client (TheDarkMod.exe). There's a slimmed down version available in the release thread if you can only run 32-bit programs on your PC.

Hello, yes, indeed, thank you! But it won't flag me any updates ;-)
Maybe a Python script for that page?

    Thank you for 2.08!!

(OP should change thread title to 2.08 )

What's the difference in Shadows Implementation between Stencil and Maps?
    Which one is better performance/quality?

When I switch from Stencil to Maps, I cannot see any graphical difference aside of lagging (especially when outside). When it's "Maps", performance is far better.

"Stencil" is the original shadowing technique used in IDTech4 (Doom 3): shadow volumes.
    "Maps" is shadowmapping technique.

The biggest difference is that Shadow Maps support true "contact hardening" Percentage Closer Soft Shadows ( PCSS )
which Stencils only offer a distance to the light emitter softener.

Cheers, that did indeed solve the problem.

I updated and now I can't play any missions. What can I do to fix this?

Make a clean installation or check the files and delete "darkmod.cfg"

I updated to v 2.07 and now my system reboots after clicking on "start mission" telling me I had a power surge. What's going on?

    To 2.07? It's impossible, it's 2.08 now.

Yes. Typing error. I meant 2.08.
Since then, I went to Springheel's page and reloaded from scratch and now I can play missions albeit I have a program crash issue with the current one I'm playing.

I just wish there was a way to go back to v2.06 2.08 just gives me a black screen (no menu,) and 2.07 has extremely distracting flickering video. But all attempts to backtrack have failed.

Please report in that specific FM thread on TDM forums! Thanks!
