Thread: Thief 2 HD Texture Mod

Again as I stated in the Thief Gold HD thread. The concept behind your HD mods is terrific however the implementation is terrible. Anytime you rework things and release a mod with it's own set of MIS and GAM files your gonna have all sorts of issues.

The two main things I look at with mods are.
    1. Can I load things in DromEd without issue? Original missions as well as FM's?
    2. Does it cause problems with original missions as well as FM's? Mismatched or out of place textures?

If a mod fails on one of those two factors then I know it's probably not one of the better mods to be using. Unfortunately the HD MOD fails on both.

What actually happened? Ya know the mod isnīt actually finished, thereīs probably a lot of tweaking and bugfixing (and a lot of new textures adding(hopefully)) to do.

I don't know if you read it...but the T2 HD MOD uses the gamesys and .mis files of "AM16's Thief2 Fixed version 1.1e". This files are also included in the Tafferpatcher.

AntiMatter_16 spent a lot of time over the past years going through the original unstripped missions for Thief2 and fixing a all kinds of bugs and problems!

The problem with FMs is more than easy to solve at the moment.

If you want to play T2 Fan Missions + HDMOD:
Open the HDMOD folder and rename the folder called "strings" to "strings_" + rename the folder called "intrface" to "intrface_".

    That should solve the problem!

If DromEd crashes, then because the texture memory is overloaded! If you can't open a .mis file because DromEd crashes with the HD MOD = open the HDMOD folder and rename the folder called "fam" to "fam_". Open the .mis file again - and it works. And if you play an OM or FM - the crash problem will never happen...!
That's a "DromEd" problem and a normal player isn't interested in if he wants to play the game only...

And as User 205 said before...this isn't the final version.

It is always easy to say ... because this isn't working instantly this mod is bad now But I accept your opinion. It's ok.

Renaming those two files fixed my main menu glitches
    Thank you very much!

Before you even posted about renaming those folders I actually had already done that. But it sucks because it disables large parts of your mod and although I'm personally not a huge fan of your mod because a lot of your textures stray to far from the originals there are times where I would like to use your mod to it's fullest without having to disable certain elements of it.

There are many elements to your mod that are absolutely brilliant and I gotta tell you I'm blown away by your workmanship on those elements. I hope you never feel you have to defend your work or somehow explain it to me because I never criticize anything out of any disrespect. If you know nothing else about me please know that.

I donīt know if it actually fits into the theme of a HD mod but in "Masks" thereīs a conversation between a hammer and a servant, or better should be. Somethig went wrong and you canīt hear it. I donīt know but could you perhaps implement it? It should be somewhere in the program files! I know itīs a little thing but, hey, it could add some nice extra.

    Information taken from here: http://thief.nov.ru/azal/Masks/Gameplay/default.htm

It's more than a "nice extra". That conversation should be restored! Are you sure it's HDmod's fault though?

EDIT: Ok, it's seems it was always missing. It would be great to have it back though...

I thought TafferPatcher already fixed that conversation.

the overhauled resources pack did that, actually. I was under the impression that Gecko has used those fixed maps as base, but maybe I'm wrong.

Hm, i'm confused. I used the .mis files from "AM16's Thief2 Fixed version 1.1e" as base. I thought you voodoo have advised me to use this maps Maybe i did misunderstand something?

Strange it didnīt work for me. But maybe itīs just my hardware configuration, a lot of other quotes and some conversation donīt get played or work correctly (for example, I never heard the Bonehoard quote "Letīs rob some tombs")

Okay, i did a quick test.

    @ User 205
The conversation in "Masks" between the hammer and a servant works! Maybe you used an old savegame (without HD mod)!? If you use old Savegames you have to restart your mission!

In Running Interference... in the basement, after putting out the torch where two guards are stationed (man and woman) you should hear from her: damn torches, always sputtering out!

That piece of conversation won't trigger.

I noticed that convo missing also. Plus, at least one of the potted plant models have those black boxes around the leaves. Seen it in at least two missions; First City Bank and one other I can't remember.

Gecko, would you like us to point out missing HD textures or misalignments, or are you familiar with areas that need updating?

That's correct! Thx. I've replaced this torch to get the improved fire flames. It will be fixed in the next version.

I found these black boxed leaves too. It's the obj texture "v_Abranch.png". It was saved without transparent background. This will be fixed also in the next version.

    Next thing:
The object file called "tree01.bin" was taken from "Vurt's_Thief2_Graphics_Overhaul_v0.2". This tree is unused in T2, but used by many FMs. I found out that the file uses a false .png name. Because of this there is a white texture in some FMs. This will be fixed too...

At the moment you can fix that by yourself if you want:
Delete the tree01.bin and copy the tree03.bin! Rename the copy of tree03 to tree01. That's it.

Torches without the improved flames? There are quite a few if memory serves. The same in your Thief Gold HD mod.

Torches with improved flames make no problems on the FPS rate. It was only with fire places...

Gecko, I'm not talking about frame rate problems. Just about the new flames that are missing in some places. I wonder did it on purpose or if you just forgot to set them up. That's all.

I don't know how to post screenshots. Anyway:

    Framed:

Going up the spiral stairs leading to records room. The second and fourth torches have old flames.
Going up the spiral stairs leading to evidence room. The two torches there have old flames.

    Ambush:

Getting out of your apartment through the door with several guards... turn left, go to the end and before falling into the channel (there's a ladder there leading to the torch), look to your left. Down there a torch with old flames.

Something else I've noticed: Some Thief 2 FMs use textures from Thief 1. These have HD models in the Thief Gold HD mod, but since it's a Thief 2 FM they only show the old version. Is there a way to transfer the textures from the Thief Gold HD mod to the Thief 2 folder in order to get these HD versions in Thief 2 also?

    I hope that made sense...

On a related note, on FMs the Hammerite Novice uses the original Thief 1/Gold Model, whereas before I installed the HD mod, the Hammer Novice would be using Thief 2 models.

    Old flames:

    Precious cargo:

In main cargo storage, the torch at the entrance.
In the old house, by the lighthouse, just after entering through the main door, to your left.
