There was an arena event for Dark Souls last night, and I gave it a try. It was pretty fun, though the waiting time between matches were way too long (no wonder nobody really uses it otherwise). Anyway, I recorded a few matches, two crazy deathmatch rounds, and one 2v2 battle.

I had no idea that arena events existed in DS. But I guess as I found the multi-player experience to be so flaky in the first DS, I never went looking for it. Out of the two types you showed I think I would definitely prefer the 2v2 as the fights look more strategic.
I think this was the very first arena event. Previously there has been gravelord events, that I know of - a bunch of gravelords converge on a chosen location and do their thing. Other players go there and wait to be gravelorded so they can invade the gravelord servants or invade via their own covenant (which has a higher rate of success since there are more players in the area), or simply fight the red phantom enemies that appear when you're gravelorded.
The latest one was in march, in Sen's Fortress. I only took screenshots that time.

You know how a lot of DS music has chorus in them. I always through they were some random chanting to enhance the composition, but someone actually figured out the (possible) lyrics of one of the boss themes. Spoilers for those who haven't seen the bosses of the Old Iron King DLC.
