DL'd in 30 seconds! When I first started playing thief that would have taken well over a day.
Thanks nicked. I'll enjoy this after darkness falls and the world is silent save a few thiefy noises.
I'm happy to announce that my new mission, Death's Turbid Veil, is available for download.
Version 1.1:

Dark Fate (thanks clearing): http://download.darkfate.org/fan-mis...idVeil_v11.zip
Google Drive (thanks Brethren): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QVZ...ew?usp=sharing
Anyone who can provide a mirror, please do, and let me know the link so I can add it to this post.
Please note: This mission requires at least New Dark v1.22 (Download here: http://thief.0815x.de/t2_v122.zip Thread here: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144235).
There is an area of the mission reported to require new_mantle to be enabled in order to progress! If you overwrote your config files when installing v1.22, or you have it disabled, please re-enable new_mantle. To do this, edit cam_ext.cfg in your main Thief2 directory and remove the semicolon in front of new_mantle.
Note: If you have trouble with sound effects appearing as static noise, please download the following zip, and replace these sounds in the mission zip file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_U...it?usp=sharing These will be included in a patched version of the mission at a later date.
Note: The patched version should have much better performance than the original 1.0 release. However, if you're still having trouble with low frame rates, try this tip from partol:
Screenshots can be found in this thread: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144130In case this helps someone ......
In the starting area (in the water), my fps was 5-10 (and occasional crash to desktop).
Reason is because T2 HDmod was enabled.
After disabling the HDmod, my minimum fps (outside) is 30-35 which is playable.
In cam_mod.ini, I put a semi-colon in front of my old mod_path, and added a new mod_path
;mod_path hdmod+hdmod\t2skies+ep2+usermods+patches
mod_path usermods+patches

"No man knows till he has suffered from the night how sweet and dear to his heart and eye the morning can be."
- Bram Stoker, Dracula

So glorious in his beauty and thy choice,
Who madest him thy chosen, that he seem'd
To his great heart none other than a God!"
- Alfred Tennyson, Tithonus
I recently paid a visit to an associate of mine, Lyle, who works at the City Museum, in an attempt to find a buyer for some antiquities I happened to have come into possession of. The man has delusions of nobility, and is usually on edge whenever I, a common criminal, go to meet him. This time however, he was clearly deeply worried by something and was acting even more flustered than usual. I wasn't going to pry, but partway through appraising my goods, he appeared to reach a decision, and started begging for my help.
Lyle's daughter, Marianne, recently got a job as a servant at the country estate of Lord Oswin Pavoni, a noble and explorer. Everything had been going fine, and she seemed happy with the work, until five days ago when she didn't come home. When he went to the house to try and find her, they told him she had disappeared and was missing, but would not let him in. Now the Watch have sent a detective to investigate, but no-one is telling Lyle anything.
He wants me to break into the house and find out what happened to her. He didn't have much to offer in return, but to sweeten the deal, he told me about a secret vault rumoured to be hidden somewhere in the house, and provided me with a list of valuable artefacts that I could get a good price for, were they to be liberated from the Pavoni estate.
Lyle's a useful man to know when I need to shift rare antiquities, and it couldn't hurt to have him owe me a favour. He's provided me with a map of the house and an advance on the artefacts I brought him so I can buy equipment. I'll be going in by dropping over the wall near the back of the estate. Once inside, I'll need to find out what happened to Marianne, and of course, locate that vault.

Damn 457MB, this is going to be an epic mission.
Thank you...downloading now...![]()
I just tried to start this mission, and it crashed right after the Objectives screen!
I tried removing some of my upgrades (NecroAge, HDMOD, ep2) and reinstalling Thief 1.22. Same result.
Awesome, congrats on the release nicked. Mirror on the way, just waiting for the upload to finish.
I noticed the .mis file is 150 MB...is that normal, even in the age of New Dark? Seems huge to me. I have no idea what makes a .mis file large or small, especially considering it doesn't contain any actual assets. Is it just based on the number of objects or brushes or something similar?
Congrats on the release, Nick!
@ Mechs Delight: I'm sorry it didn't work. I don't know why it didn't but just to be sure it isn't something in the mission archive itself, I downloaded and started it and I was able to get into the mission with no crash. For what it's worth, I don't have any other mods installed, just v1.22.
Works fine for me, on a clean 1.22 install, using Darkloader.
Congrats Nick! Can't wait to start playing once it's good and dark.
Is there a briefing movie? Perhaps the crash is a codec or video-related issue.
Edit: Never mind, after looking in the ZIP on Drive, I see there's no movie.
Thanks Nicked for the new FM. I am trying to figure out the picture puzzles at this point. I don't wish a hint yet at this time. I just need to figure out how these work. Tough though that the AI are really sensitive. I got too careless and alerted one who was about 50 yards away - upstairs. These guards are really worried about intruders, aren't they?
Frames are a little slow when starting out - in the outside areas - especially if looking toward the distance. However, this is something many new dark FMs do now. It's not so bad that it hurt game play. Just a little jumpy here and there.
I like the very low light candles. Lots of light in other areas, but some shadows that are bigger than they seem to be. That helps. Thanks for that.![]()
Fine here (using FMsel). It does seem to use a lot of memory though - 800-900MB once the mission is loaded. Is that normal?
I found the solution - I have an icon to start the program on my desktop, and the Properties tab still had the Target startup on an old version of the New Dark exe.
Everyone: Make sure that you copy the most recent thief2.exe to your Target startup in Properties (or just double click on thief2.exe to start the newest NewDark version) after installing the most recent version.

Mission crashes to desktop when in loading objectives screen. I have New Dark 1.22, but i donīt use any EP patch. I use darkloader, whatīs wrong?
@cardia1, Did you check that your shortcut icon points to the EXE your 1.22 installation folder (per above)? Starting directly with the 1.22 EXE?
Sorry to be repetitive, but then you still need to have Darkloader point to the correct EXE file. Check the Thief2 directory in Setup. Then when you start the mission, Pause to desktop and check that the Thief Icon in your task bar says 1.22. If so, then it is something else...
the task bars doesnīt say anything at all, it just shows the thief 2 icon, iīm using windows 7
I am using Windows 7 too, but I have a classic start menu and classic desktop theme. I don't know whether or not the display of my task bar differs from yours. If you can't see it on the task bar, you should be able to see it in the Task Manager. You can start the Task Manager via CTRL-ALT-DEL or right clicking on the task bar and then selecting Start Task Manager.
EDIT: another thing: you can see the name by hovering your mouse over the Thief2 icon. I set taskbar buttons to Never Combine under task bar properties. This displays the name of the task without hovering the mouse over the icon.

Having the same problem with crashing. I download newdark version 1.22 to my desktop. I extract all the files to my Thief2 directory. I open my directory and find the Thief icon (application extension) which launches the game right clicking the icon looking at details then properties it still shows v1.21. The v1.22 zip file is where the other patches filed.
Why isn't v1.22 installing?
Should I try deleting v1.21?
When you download version 1.22, the ZIP archive you are downloading has several smaller ZIP archives inside it. It is not necessary to put everything from the original download into your Thief 2 folder. The only two ZIP archives that need to be extracted into the Thief 2 folder are "new_dark.zip" and "contrib.zip". It sounds like you extracted the original ZIP archive into your T2 folder but not the needed ones. They should now be sitting in your T2 folder as ZIP files. You will still need to extract them there.
Great mission so far but I need a nudge down in the well I don't know what to put in the big bowl thing. I have read the tile that says something about taking a leap ?? I have looked all over down here
Nicked this AWESOME!!
P.S. I had the same crash problem and found out that indeed the folders were zipped in the Thief2 directory so I unzipped and all is good now!!
