Beat the Crown of the Sunken King last night. Holy crap, the bosses sure are unbalanced compared to Dark Souls, but they were still fun. Soon I go towards the Old Iron King!

I take your point re the doors. As far as the keys are concerned I reckon it would have been more interesting to have at least some vague clue as to their whereabouts by tying in these areas with the general lore of the game.
Back to my progress in Frozen Eleum Loyce... things have started to get a lot trickier after the first bonfire. Unlike my journey up to that point, getting to the next bonfire resulted in half a dozen deaths before I finally got there: mauled by dogs twice; skewered and thrown over the rails by one of those large frozen knights; killed by a soul arrow that went through a wall to hit me while I was in the middle of quaffing a potion; caught by surprise; forgot to change back to my shield and accidently used my binoculars instead at a crucial time.

Unbalanced? In what way?
He meant much harder that vanilla bosses.
Prepare to get kicked in the balls, Duck.
Finished DS 2: SotFS fully.
Only the Ancient Dragon was spared.
Fume Knight fell to me (with a bit of help) on my 2nd attempt. Ivory King bit it on the 2nd attempt too (to be fair, his knights killed me on my first attempt, so technically I killed him on my first attempt).
The only bosses that game me trouble were Smelter Demon 2.0 (which I soloed!) and the two black tigers (the summons helped a lot here).
Nashandra was easy as last time and Aldia was not really harder, both fell on my 1st attempt.
I also died very few times in Brume Tower & only once in Eleum Loyce.
So, what was that about my balls being kicked?![]()
Actually they are easy solo even on NG+2. They should fall after 1-3 attempts, that is *if* you trained yourself enough with Aava beforehand. Each of them is at least 2 times weaker than Aava, so if you can reliably master the latter there shouldn't be problems with Lud & Zallen.
Well, now solo all of them on NG+. IMO, the hardest boss of all of them is Elana. The only boss I couldn't beat solo, didn't try on NG though, only on NG+ and ++.So, what was that about my balls being kicked?![]()
The most annoying thing about Elana is that it's a totally RNG based boss. Get Velstadt? Hard mode. Get the skellies? Normal mode. Get them PIGGIES?* EZ PZ mode.
*spoiler: I died in that particular attempt. Not to the piggies tho.
One day, one day. For now, y'all kiss my ass (or at least Renzatic <3).
Well, I did have Elana summon Velstadt...that was fun....oic, though I did managed to beat her.
It is interesting how some bosses are indeed much easier soloing, or if you're going to co-op, hope that you get humans who have an idea of what they're doing. Jesus...how many times I assisted someone only to watch their dumbass get trashed 'cuz they were all on the boss' face. Jesus...
Also, Renz, shut it, boy.
Still prefer Dark Souls as my favorite Souls game. Awesome times.
The Ancient Dragon is dead on my 1st try!
Woot!
Only if you stick close to him, but I actually found his pattern to be very predictable making it easy to avoid. Mind you, I did get scorched a few times before going "Ah-hah!".
Fun times![]()

When you stay before him waiting to eaither run towards him if he's going to breath or from him if he's going to take the air, he sometimes decides to not just take the air and then ground at the same place, but to change his position by flying some distance and breathing fire, especially if he's close to the edge. That was when I was killed in majority of cases. Other cases were when available distance from me to the edge became too short to escape his breath: after landing or breathing he takes few steps towards player gradually reducing available space, so player has to change direction from time to time.

I pretty much managed to loop him on breathing fire on the ground, but on the odd ocassion he took to the air I was already far away.
Bonus points: I had actually summoned two players to aid me, but died rather quickly, so I had to kill the dragon with extra life for him...yup, really got to know the fucker reslly well.
In any case, I killed every last NPC and headed for NG+, gonna give the game a rest for a while now.![]()
You should try to solo all bosses next time, it's more fun. But vanilla bosses will be easy on NG+ anyway, actually they were much easier for me 2nd time even with 2xhealth.
Just picked up SotFS. It's on sale on Steam this weekend. Only €6.75 if you own DS2 previously.
Started playing this recently and am finding it so much harder than DS2 - is that most people's experience or am I doing something wrong?
Not even fought nay bosses yet and the whole 'losing a % of your HP every time you die' thing is kicking my ass.
If you go to Heide's Tower of Flame, there's a Ring of Binding there that lets you keep a minimum of 75% of your health instead of 50%, which makes a huge difference early-game if you are dying a lot. It's near the dragon, I think.
Later on, you tend to have more easy access to humanity to top off that health bar again.
<hr>
Just started playing this recently; I'd never played DS2 before.
87 hours and probably a thousand deaths later, and I still haven't finished. I got the King's ring, but got distracted by wandering into Frozen Eleum Loyce (which is rather difficult - was it a DLC area?)
Overall the game feels a bit easier than the original Dark Souls - though that might be because I'm better at the game, or because I played the original as a sorcerer instead of as a proper mêlée fighter. I find myself defeating most of the bosses on the first, second or third tries - apart from some truly evil ones such as the Smelter Demon and Aava. I did farm a bit at the start and mostly avoided losing too many souls to dying, though, so I have a very high level now.
I played the original without online mode, so that whole thing is new to me. The cryptic messages on the floor can be fun, as can a bit of jolly cooperation (on the rare occasions someone else is as high-level as me)
Invaders are generally annoying and often seem much stronger at PvP than me (I seem to do no damage to them but they do lots to me) - they also tend to pop up at the most annoying times (e.g. murder you when you are trying to get back to a particularly valuable bloodstain), and sometimes two invading you at the same time is just outright unfair - but I guess that's part of the what makes it Dark Souls: a thousand ways to die, many of them cruel and somewhat unfair - but that just makes the victory all the sweeter in the end.
Yeah, early game can be hard, especially if you don't have a good enough weapon. The Ring of Binding is in the chest near the Dragonrider's foggate in SotFS btw.
And yes, Eleum Loyce was a DLC (the third one) for the vanilla game.
I thought it was there, but then I googled it and they said it was on the other side. I guess it was changed in SotFS.
Right. So to get that ring, you need to go right in the big room with three large knights, and it's in the chest with the non-hostile Heide Knight sitting against it (you have to kill him to get the ring.)
Tip: Heide Knights are very easy to parry (except for the lance ones.)
Yeah I also started playing SotFS recently, and then I stopped after a few hours. Just wasn't having a good time.
I even went back to DS1 to check I hadn't just become really bad at the game. After a few bizarre attempts at the Taurus Demon not working, I started to worry I had, but then I remembered not to worry about levels so much as equipment, upgraded my mace to +5 and easily took it down, then killed the armoured boar first time, both Undead Burg black knights first time, both Bell Gargoyles solo (never did this before), Capra Demon first time and Gaping Dragon first time, plus haven't died in Blight Town other than a few stupid falls trying to get treasure, and I am still rocking the 10 humanity I've had since before the Taurus Demon, so no double deaths.
I'm really enjoying being back in Dark Souls again, so I may actually take this character through to completion (going for STR/FAI having previously gone through with DEX/END) and then go back to SotFS again from the beginning but remembering to concentrate on weapon rather than level.
In terms of upgrading, titanite Chunks are really hard to get in DS2, and Titanite Shards to a lesser extent. It's odd, because Large Titanite Shards are available in infinite supply early on (apparently a change made in Scholar), but normal Titanite Shards don't become infinite until much later. Titanite Chunks are super-rare (I feel I find more slabs than chunks, though that's just because you need far more chunks than slabs). You can farm them up by letting yourself get invaded in the bell towers, but it's a pain - especially when you are not that good at PvP.
Then again, Petrified Dragon Bone (which you need for boss-soul weapons) is even rarer, and there's no covenant that offers it.
I think the best way to get a weapon fully upgraded early is to find one of the rare ones that uses Twinkling Titanite, which seems much more comment (plus, a fair number of enemies drop it throughout the game.)
