    Voice of Underworld

Some folks should be really pleased to hear about the latest announcement.

It’s our pleasure to announce that Stephen L. Russell will be doing voice acting for Underworld Ascendant.
Among gamers, Stephen is perhaps best known as the voice of Garrett in the original Thief games.
At LookingGlass we worked closely with Stephen, where he voiced some of the more memorable characters from Thief, Thief II and System Shock 2.
Stephen also did voice acting for Fallout 3 and Skyrim. We’re looking forward to working with him once again.
That's pretty cool news, and it's good to have him back. Hopefully he'll have some big role in the game and it's not just some cameo appearance.

    Seriously?

Paul finally gets his dream after 20 years, and makes a *direct sequel* to his beloved Underworld series, gets *TIM STELLMACH* onboard as lead designer. Now he announces, as part of the kickstart surprises, that Russell himself is back. And you suggest it may be just a cameo?! It must be nice up there, where the air is so thin. LOLOL

    Stephen Russell!!!!!! Mwahahahahaaaa

This is a joyous day, for one, such as myself. A true hardcore fanatic of crpg. We are all here to celebrate a classic series of crpg !!!!!

This is fantastic news. It should be a lot of fun watching this project grow. I have no doubt they'll exceed their funding goals. I hope that having Stephen Russell on board will garner more backers. Any word on Dan Thron or Mr. and Mrs. Brosius?

  5. #5
    Why yes, there is!

Also, tickled to announce another superbly talented voice actor joining the Underworld Ascendant roster:

Terri Brosius was part of the team at LookingGlass, doing both design and voice acting on the Thief games and System Shock II. She is the voice of Shodan and Delacroix in the System Shock series, and the voice of Viktoria in the Thief series. She has also worked with Ion Storm, Electronic Arts, Tiger Style, and Arkane. Terri has writing credits on the Thief games, Dishonored, Waking Mars, and more. Terri also plays keys for The Vivs, teaches piano to unsuspecting youngsters, likes to crochet, and has an unreasonable fear of hornets. We are thrilled to be working with Terri again!

I'm so happy that these two iconic actors are involved with this project.

And as fantastic as Stephen was in the Thief series, I'm even more pleased that Terri is involved, as she's been such an important part of so many Looking Glass games, and the Underworlds were the the only games in the first-person RPG/shooter style where her voice didn't appear.

Cool, that's more good news. The team is shaping up quite nicely, let's hope that the "magic" is still there and that they can still deliver all these years later.

Unreasonable fear of hornets? There is no such thing! There aren't even <s>m</s>any hornets where I live but I'm still afraid of these evil things. buzz

Let me tell you about the time a nest of Japanese Hornets took up residence near my friends house...

Think of a hornet. Just a regular old hornet. They're about an inch long at most. Kinda scary, a little mean, but, you know, hardly apocalyptic.

Now imagine that same hornet longer than your index finger, and almost twice as fat. Imagine it's twice as aggressive. You'd always hear them coming at you. A weirdly bassy buzz off in the distance. Getting louder all the while. As they close in, you could hear the whir of their wings whipping against the air. Then the dive bombing begins. They'd dive past your face, brandishing stingers that look almost like a cat's claw. If you run, they come after you.

...and they don't stop until you're inside.

They're the stuff of nightmares. Like comically big bees, except they're not fucking funny at all.

I bet that after Underworld Ascendant they're probably going to do a Thief-ey sequel/remake of some sorts, or even a System Shock 2 sequel. I'd love a new Thief-ey game anytime.

I hope they do something new and original. Perhaps something like that cold war spy game that was canned at Looking Glass.

I've gotten kind of sick of Stephen Russell lately. I've started playing Skyrim again and he voices like every 5th named NPC in that game.

Make a licensing deal with Night Dive and/or the random insurance company which owns the IP to make a System Shock sequel would be a terrific idea. Have Ken Levine as a creative consultant (a la the arrangement they have with Spector) and I'm sure that the money would pour in if they went the crowd funding route.

What the fuck does this even mean?

Skyrim is not severely lacking on writing quality front (like all of Bethesda's RPGs since 2006 really) but as an immersive sandbox game it's truly marvelous. I'm still playing the same playthrough that I started on 11-11-2011, sunk hundreds of hours into it, have barely even touched the primary story quest-line and foresee no end to that in sight is thorough justification of my opinion.

Oh and Might and Magic X is pretty good, you should play that. If DRM is a concern then get over yourself, it's perfectly reasonable. Far more convenient to the consumer than fucking disc checks.

Are you talking about UPlay? I'm not one of those anti-DRM at all costs zealots, but some companies do take it way too far. My one experience with a Ubisoft game protected by UPlay went something like...

...you download the game off Steam, then you download the DRM software when you launch it for the first time, then you make an account, then you wait for it to verify the game on your account, then you watch it spin its wheels for 10 hours, and then you still don't get play your game because the goddamn verification server is down, then you wait a few days, then you try it again, and it still does the same thing, then you say fuck it, and uninstall the game.

Don't even get me started on Rockstar Social Club or whatever it's called. I had to download a crack just to play a game I legally own, because it'd NEVER, EVER work for me in L.A Noire.

So, let me get this straight.

I get nailed for making some random humorous comment, amidst a flurry of random humorous comments, and yet here we have Moderation openly advocating the use of game cracks?!

Lets tighten it up some, eh guys?

    GBM wouldn't be that

You truncated his comment so it would suit your point. He was not advocating the use of game cracks. He was complaining that he had to resort to such a method to play a game he had every legal right to play.

You got "nailed" for stirring up some serious poo around here and deservedly so, and here you are still doing that. I understand that you're frustrated because your little "jokes" backfired on you, but this really isn't the right place to cry and complain about it. I'm fairly sure that your beloved GBM wouldn't approve either.

By making this forum the place for all your personal drama you've probably cost OtherSide Entertainment hundreds of dollars, because I'm sure that a lot of people are fed up of seeing every single thread turn into something like this. I certainly am.

Let's stop the stomping feet and pouting act, Gold. You've been a pain in the ass around here, you're continuing to be a pain in the ass, and the worst thing about it is you're well aware of it. Quit acting like a child.

Fine, so you can use a crack, but only if you are resorting to it, and you own the game, got it!

    I DIDNT KNOW

Also, serious poo around here? Are you *that* bored, that me calling Brethren out for never playing Underworld is causing serious poo around here?!?!

And then telling zookers that he got his feelings hurt when Zylon shredded him?!

Yeah, if that constitutes serious poo for you... Im glad Im only on the internet a half hour every day, or so...

    Peace.

Considering the fact I said "for a game I legally own" literally right after the part you quoted, it's pretty damn obvious you did. Don't claim otherwise, and try to feign innocence. It only makes you look even worse than you already do.

And you're looking pretty damn bad right now.

I've told you to shut up. I've told you to quit acting like a child. Here's a third one for you. Quit being a goddamn nuisance. Cuz that's exactly what you're being right now. A nuisance. And a huge one at that. You haven't contributed anything to any of the conversations you've been involved in around here other than smarmy bullshit.

Stop while you're ahead. Save face. Move on.

Gold, I've never had a spat with you and I don't hold any particular grudge against you. But somehow, some way, you manage to ruin and derail almost every thread in which you participate.

If I were a moderator, within this subforum I'd just delete all your posts and others' reactions to them. Any kind of meaningful, fun discussion has been killed by your presence here, and it's a damn shame. For crying out lout, just cut it out! Please!

And no, your excuses and rationalizations don't help. They just further derail threads, no matter how righteous you feel in expressing them.

I'm sorry, I don't ever get into these kinds of messes, but gosh, this should be an exciting time for LookingGlass fans and Underworld fans, and yet this forum is pretty much dead because all of its threads get derailed by people like GMD, Vae and Eva making irritatingly pompous asses of themselves rather than engaging in peaceful, respectful discussion. What the hell is it about gamers and gaming forums? Sheesh!

Stephen Russell brought his A game for Skyrim, imo. Then again he's a severely talented dude.
