Just added Vicar Amelia to my defeated bosses list. It took several attempts but she fell quite easily in the end.

Also finally killed that annoying NPC hunter who was camping near the Odeon Tomb lamppost.

I'm really liking the back step attack of the hunter axe in two handed as it allows to easily dodge an enemy and then get a quick hit in to punish them. I was able to stun-lock the NPC hunter for most of the fight by simply repeating this move over and over.

Paid my first visit to the chalice dungeon last night. Pretty cool. Doesn't seem to pay off with a huge amount of echoes, but I think I gained some Insight instead.

Yesterday evening, just as I was hoping to return to Bloodborne, the game was mysteriously no longer installed. I guess it's possible I deinstalled it by mistake, but I'm not sure how that would've happened. Anyway, no Bloodborne for me yesterday, but I'm hoping at least to reclaim my blood echoes tonight.

henke, any tips on how best to use the cane/chain combo? I fared well enough with the former, but haven't yet got the hang of the chain.

I've been sticking to the cane and just using the chain for crowds and bosses, given it's better spread and reach.

Did the game uninstall completely, or did it just say that it was not installed completely when you tried starting it in Online mode? If it's the latter, it happened to me too at the start, but that was because their servers weren't handling the load of all the players I believe.

I managed to defeat one of three new bosses I found over the past day. I won't spoil, but I will say that things escalate in ways that are surprising and awesome in the literal sense. I know I have mentioned it with Dark Souls but Miyazaki's influence from Berserk is ever present (look familiar?) and there is more than just that! If you are curious, I can't recommend the Golden Age Arc enough. Another influence that is apparent is Lovecraft. I wasn't expecting it but it is undeniable as you progress further into the game. As a Lovecraft nut it is a welcomed surprise.

I have to force myself to go to sleep so I'm not a zombie tomorrow, a hard thing to do with so many paths I could go in the game. One more thing, if any of you are using Ludwig's holy blade, its greatsword state deals blunt damage, gem accordingly as it certainly helped me. Congrats to everyone making progress, wish you guys were posting more videos. No excuse not to considering how stupid easy it is to capture, edit, and upload.

    Goodnight!

It didn't show up in the main bar, and when I went to the library the only option I had was to download it - from scratch, if the progress bar is anything to go by. I do wonder what exactly happened there.

On the other hand, I was surprised and a bit miffed at first when I realised that I'd need PS+ to play online - until I realised that PS+ seems to be a very good offer. For the price of one game, I've already got two games that I was hoping to get sooner or later (Oddworld: New'n'Tasty and Valiant Hearts). Yays all round!

Yeah I had to renew my PS+ for this as well. You might wanna give CounterSpy a whirl as well, it's not bad.

In other news... it sure didn't take long before someone stepped up and made us all feel like lazy sacks of dung pie: Bloodborne beaten in 44 minutes

edit: man, there are some insane glitches to exploit in the current build. At one point he jumps at a crate from just the right angle and goes flying over a wall. 9 minutes in he's already further along than I've managed to get so far.

I just fought the shadows of Yharnam for the first time. I got all three down to about 20-30% health before things got too chaotic and I died. I only had 4 blood vials left at that point.

Next time I will probably try concentrating my damage on just one of them (most likely the really annoying one that always kept throwing fireballs at me). Right now I need to take a break.

That's the one I went for first, it definitely made it easier. While it is possible to use the environment to your advantage, the shade that wields the katana keeps you on your toes with that insane extended arm reach.

@henke, those screens are pretty nice. Your character reminds me of Christopher Walken in Sleepy Hollow

The world is conspiring against me playing Bloodborne, or at least playing it online... Last night I wanted to play, but the internet wouldn't work on the PS4, so I just played some in offline mode. Turns out that the LAN connection stopped working in mid-download at some point, and I haven't yet been able to find out whether it's the cable or the PS4. I checked whether wifi would work, and it does, but I'd much prefer to connect the Playstation with an Ethernet cable, for stability and speed.

Ah, that sucks, Thirith. You're probably better off getting accustomed to the game on your own for the first bit tho. But when you get to the bosses you might start wishing for other players.

I don't think she'd be too happy about being told she looks like Christopher Walken.

We should try to team up for a Chalice Dungeon co-op run btw. Maybe sometime this weekend?

In that case, I thought she looked a bit like Aimee Mann.

Third time was the charm for me with the Shadow of Yharnam. The first time using the new strategy I killed the fireball thrower quickly enough but then got reckless and paid for it. The second time I defeated all of them. It did get pretty scary though when only the scythe-wielding one was left and giant snakes started popping out of the ground all over the arena but I managed to survive using all of my twenty blood vials in the process.

Heh, that's unintentional, tho I do like Aimee Mann, and I do have a tendency of shaping my RPG characters after artists/actors I like (Björk in Dragon's Dogma, Ron Perlman in Skyrim). But this one isn't shaped after anyone in particular, I just tried to make her look worldweary. A professional monster hunter that's been doing this for long before Bloodborne's story begins.

Wish you were playing. It'd be fun to co-op with you.

@henke, Sorry we couldn't do chalice this morning. I've stopped leveling at the moment so I can group. I'm level 77 right now.

Found a way to a whole new zone called the upper cathedral. They really nailed cosmic horror...this boss was pretty tough. As you can see, I narrowly survived a couple of times.

Discovered something pretty cool just now. Without spoiling too much: some NPCs will respond differently to you depending on what you're wearing.

How well can you just evade the enemies and observe their patterns? In Dark Souls you could just hide behind your shield and with enough endurance and good stamina management, not even black knights could lay a finger on you. From what I've seen of people playing, it looks like this would be very difficult in Bloodborne, though -- it's as if you're almost required to be on the offence at all times to regain lost health and stop enemy attacks.

You certainly have to be more on the offence to make progress, but you can still hang back and observe patterns, as long as you're not fighting enemies with ranged weapons, then it's more tricky.

It's a change of pace from the old Souls games for sure, but once you get into the groove of it, it feels great. When you sprint into a group of baddies and start dishing out cane-lashings while effortlessly dodging and weaving between saberblades and flying bullets you'll feel like the baddest motherfucker in Yarnham.

Yeah, I'm not quite there yet. I'm okay when it comes to normal enemies, but I suck when fighting bosses, especially in fairly narrow confines. I managed the Cleric Beast, just about, but I tend to go through all my blood vials and most of my molotov cocktails when going up against Father Gascoigne. I can tell you, I'm very much looking forward to the loading times being reduced via patch, since I spend as much time looking at the loading screen as I do getting torn to shreds by Father G.

Yeah I had to get help for Gascoigne, and one other boss as well. But most of them I've done solo. Gonna need some help with the boss in Byrgenwerth tho. That battle is icky. *shudder*

Ah, I didn't even know that I could already coop at this point... Guess I'll have to find out more about that! :-)
