Gimme a few days. I've got some appointments this coming week.
Another filtering complete.
640x480 30fps

Now I need remastered audio tracks.
Gimme a few days. I've got some appointments this coming week.
Any news?
Finally had time to deal with this. Basically did three steps:
1. Simple resampling to CD quality (44 kHz, 16 bit, Stereo). I wasn't sure whether to pick 44 kHz or 48 kHz. 44 kHz would be simple doubling of the original sample rate (22 kHz) and thus avoiding round-off errors, but 48 kHz would be native sample rate of most gaming sound cards and thus direct sound...
2. Noise removal based on a shaped dither noise, similar to the one they used in the original downgrading process
3. Frequency restortion using Acoustica's built-in tools.
I have an A-B comparison here:
http://www.jaybmusic.net/Upload/play...Restortion.mp3
It switches every five seconds. Seconds 0-5 is original, 5 to 10 is restored.

I think the original videos all had 8bit audio, like everything else in the game (or lower. Speech to a compressed 4bit format if I recall). So it's quite the hissy experience with all the dither noise.
well since i usually have the most outdated comp out of most people i know my screen size is 1600/900 hp s2031 series wide LCD screen,so that should be minimum i would guess
First post updated. I completed second version of refiltering, with the help of Child Of Karras on sound. Download link in first post.

It looks like ffmpeg was used to decode the movies before filtering and re-encoding? While ffmpeg can do that it's not very good at it, as this comparison against the original Indeo codec shows:
Also, there's trouble with the frame interpolation in some scenes, e.g. the sword in CS06.avi. It's the sort of thing that is quite annoying once you've spotted it.
Other than that, good job both of you.![]()
There is a my audio restoration. Coming soon in August-September.

Nice noise reduction. What did you use for that?
Audition CS6 + iZotope RX3 + original samples from RES/snd.crf/SFX.
Upd. Intro is done https://soundcloud.com/musictaffer/thief-gold-intro

I did it!

The archive contains the original movies with the restored audio tracks (PCM 44.1 kHz/16 bit).

There's something important I should tell. Movies in Thief The Dark Project are in MUCH higher quality!
Here's what I mean. The files simply re-used in Thief Gold are the same. But if there's a movie that was somehow adjusted, for example, added credits to the original credit roll, the Thief 1 file was taken, then some new parts were added, and it was re-compressed with much worse quality! I mean MUCH worse!
So It's a good idea to go back to the original files and compare them. Probably you'll have to make your own edit of Thief Gold movies, taking parts from both versions.
Also, Josh "Robotkid" once uploaded some Thief intros on his youtube channel, ripped from VHS they used as a promo. I remember the video with "Thief" letters is recorded with real 30 fps! I compared frame-to-frame with the game version - the game has only 15, every second frame cut.
I can upload all that stuff for you if you want. I've used some filters, upscalers and frame interpolators in my interview video, trying to make the best view of each scene.

Ok, I checked files.
The only real different files are B10.avi and INTRO.avi.
Intro had different logo in the end. And B10 had redesigned beginning with different quotes.
And CREDITS.avi
There are some different files like B09, CS06, DEATH, SUCCESS. But all I can see - they just had a different blackout section - a few seconds longer.
And I can't find any worse quality compared between The Dark Project and Gold editions. The only case is logo part of the Intro.
So I can filter B10 and Intro if you need, just to finish the job.
And I also can filter "Making of" movie.
Any update on the filtering and remastering of the Dark Project versions of B10.avi and INTRO.avi (the one with the original 'dark project' logo at the end)? How about the Thief 2 videos?
Thanks for all your hard work, the remastered videos and audio really make a difference and fit in perfectly with the HD Texture Mods for both games.
Thank you from my site, too. I am interested in TMA remastered movies as well. Is that already done?
I have remastered originals from Thief The Dark Project on my HDD. Will upload them as soon as I choose what to do with the sound.
Ok, done

I uploaded files from the original Thief: The Dark Project
INTRO.avi
B10.avi
CREDITS.avi
All remastered like I did with the Thief Gold Movies (filtered 640x480, 30fps etc). Intro different from the Thief Gold version only in the name of the game at the end of the movie. B10 has more changes. Credits completely different.
Also I included filtered version of Making of Thief (720x536 mkv) that was on the Thief Gold CD if I am not mistaken.
You just can't stop yourself calling them remastered, can you.
Words mean things. These are very nearly the opposite of remastered.
It's just a word. I doubt anyone will ever create real "remastered" videos for Thief.
We are calling the filtered sound by Child Of Karras remastered - but it is not a "real" remaster - and no one ever pointing it at him. But it's just resample and noise reduction.
Words don't matter... whataboutism... two wrongs make a right... you're just a basket of fallacies today.
