I prefer Shock gaming on this nice big 27" Dell u2711 screen I have, sure it's 5+ years old now, but it grants a great picture. I'll keep my eye on VR though.

I also liked the cyberspace segments. Added to that tension of feeling extremely vulnerable in the beginning of the game & all throughout the rest. That last boss fight in cyberspace was always a defining moment in System Shock for me. All the weapons & ammo you amassed throughout the game meant nothing against shodan as you had to fight her on her turf. I still love every moment of it.

The final SHODAN battle was about 30 seconds of flailing around while clicking like mad. It was almost more a denouement than a climax.

Terri Brosius is confirmed. Let's hope her husband isn't far behind.

Otherside buying back the publishing rights to SS3 from Starbreeze.

Until they patch Underworld Ascendant into not being shit I'll not be giving these guys the time of day.

SS3 and UA are being worked on by completely different teams.

Maybe if this fact is repeated a few hundred more times people will eventually understand it.

Well you may know that, but the greater buying public does not care whether if its a different team. There is very likely to be a knock on effect to sales of SS3 due to the disaster of the UA.

Reputation plays a big part in the games industry.

Is that why EA went bankrupt and had to get out of the game business?

The "greater buying public" can barely tell the difference between developers and publishers.

Let's just hope Otherside can find another publisher and stay in business long enough to finish SS3.

I'm still hopeful, but not optimistic. I was disappointed when I heard that Sheldon Pacotti left Otherside, and disappointed again with the concept art. And now the publisher who was funding a (sizeable?) chunk of the development files for bankruptcy. Haven't seen much good news since the original annoucement.

Yeah, considering it was announced in December of 2015 (!), shouldn't we know a little bit more about it at this point?

It's not like Warren Spector to spend more than three years on a game.

Kinda weird to post old news directly subsequent to the original discussion.

I didnt see the Twitter thread posted here or any mention of the game being more than halfway complete. Figured that would somewhat answer the above questions.

Wow. Clearly the three weeks it took you to craft that response were well-spent, nerf herder.

Underworld Ascendant was developed by Otherside Boston. System Shock 3 is being developed by Otherside Austin. For day-to-day operations they are, for all practical purposes, under completely separate management.

Also, psst... Daikatana and Deus Ex were also made under the same "management".

And the annual Call of Duty games are each made by different studios with their own day to day management yet there is still a parent company responsible for overall business decisions involved with each game. At the end of the day if Paul Neurath demands that Otherside Texas jumps they will have to oblige.

So your concern is... that they'll be ordered to design a terrible game? That's what your thought process is haphazardly stumbling toward?

For once, I agree with ZB. Just because of the way Underworld Ascendant turned out doens't mean SS3 will suffer the same fate since it's two different teams. Hell, in Eidos Montreal, Deus Ex HR and Thief 4 was made by two different teams. Even if you don't care for HR, you can still say it's a better designed game than Thief 4 was.

Plus, the golden rule to remember is no developer goes into a game with the intention to make it bad. Game development is incredibly hard and a lot of things can go wrong along the way. The UA team has been refreshingly transparent about what happened, and believe me, that can happen to even the best developers.

To play devils advocate: By that line of thinking Anthem by Bioware should have been a far superior game to Mass Effect Andromeda considering it was made by a different studio (but still under the overall Bioware umbrella). And yet it's been a complete clusterfuck ever since release. Bug riddled, lacking content. Sound familiar?

I'm sure Warren Spector will be able to keep the SS3 team from over-scoping and under-delivering like UA and, um, everything Warren Spector has done since Deus Ex 1.
