    Salt and Sanctuary

So, apparently there's a new Dark Souls game in the PS4 town.

It certainly looks like a chip off the old block:

I play to check this out once it's out on PC. They said they have no exact release date yet, but probably maybe in about three months or so. From the gameplay I've seen so far it looked fun, even though I didn't like the art style. The character art, at least.

Looks pretty cool really. Hopefully this will be given up for the psplus monthly game.

Saw a review for this yesterday on Polygon. Gotta say, I'm kinda stoked about it.

Though the only downside is that by the time it comes out for the PC, we'll all probably already be through with DS3. It's possible we could all be Souls'd out by that point.

It's a Metroidsoulsvania! Like all my favorite types of games, all rolled up into one.

People, it'd be a damn crying shame if you let this one slip you buy. It really is a Metroidsoulsvania, and does manage to be better than the sum of its already awesome parts. 2D platforming with souls-like fighting, and a huge gameworld with a billion and one secrets to discover. How could you NOT love it?

I second what Renz said. This game is a bona fide class act and worth your time and effort, especially for the low asking price (usually between $10-15 USD). Fun and challenging!

If I were you, I'd grab in this nice Metroidvania bundle, and save it for later. I know for a fact that 3 out of those 5 games are well worth the price.

Thanks for the heads up, but I'm not crazy enough about Metroidvania games to blow €40. Plus, I have a new rule - only buy from the wishlist and only if I will play the game before the next sale.

I just started playing this game, and holy shit it's amazing. But that's not why I'm posting this.

It was run at the AGDQ event a few weeks ago, and it was a particularly entertaining speedrun. The runner also explains all the tricks and glitches he uses, so everyone can understand what's going on. I highly recommend checking it out for those who played this game (or those who don't care about spoilers). It's an all bosses run followed by an any% run - they're about one hour together.

A few things I picked up on that might be useful for others:

-Place a guide to every sanctuary of your creed (you can only make offerings for your own creed). You'll find more than enough stone guides. They sell Calling Horns, stock up on those. The horns allow you to warp to any sanctuary with a guide in it, and the guide can warp you to any sanctuary you ever visited, regardless of creed. With this setup, you have your warping covered.

-Don't forget about leaders. You can level up your creed at these NPCs, and the higher you creed level is, the more kinds of stuff NPCs at your sanctuaries sell. You don't have to (in fact, shouldn't) place a stone leader at the first sanctuary, just don't forget that creed level is a thing.

-Don't hoard gold, unless you want to buy some specific expensive thing. You lose a percentage of it on every death. Spend it on upgrade materials and consumables instead. Like antidotes. Especially antidotes.

-You can put multiple black pearls into a single stat node on the skill tree. So if you only want to level up a stat, you don't have to keep branching out.

..just off the top of my head.

I played a bit of this game yesterday and already defeated my first boss (the Sodden Knight not the Unspeakable Deep ).

I'm enjoying the game so far, although the controls took a bit of getting used to (once when fighting the Sodden Knight I pressed R1 to attack as in Dark Souls and ended up eating a hearty roll instead, it did not end well ).

Just defeated another three bosses today.

Compared to the Souls games the bosses seem a little low on health so far. For example the False Jester I beat on my first attempt and the fight took little over a minute.

The build I'm going with currently is great sword (I don't remember its name) with focus mainly on levelling up strength for high damage. Also I'm using a charm which increases the attack speed of the great sword.

The boss you mentioned is well known for being one of the easiest in the game. For me, the big early game brick wall was the alchemist, or whatever it's name was. After that my shield tank build started to take shape and things got easier.

For me the Mad Alchemist died even quicker than the False Jester even.

The main problem I had with the Mad Alchemist was getting swarmed by slimes and killed by the poison effect.

Five more bosses down (I've posted videos of the kills on my youtube channel). Out of these the Kraekan Wyrm and Tree of Men were really quite challenging (the latter mainly because I kept falling to my death by mistake), the other three I defeated on my 1st or 2nd attempt.
