You know, it's really fun invading people and beating them up.
@MorbusG Not me, sadly, but I'm seeing quite a few popes lately XD
@Renz Ah, I did the same thing actually, completely forgot about that.
Trying to do the early Dancer fight sequence break currently on a fresh char. In for a world of pain...

Me too! It's impossible for me, even with help. It's possible to defeat her easily with a bug, but that's only if you didn't defeat Vordt before her (I did).Trying to do the early Dancer fight sequence break currently on a fresh char. In for a world of pain...
Invading people for freedom, I mean.
Aaand it's done. Well, technically, I suppose I would still need to sit down by a bonfire, but still. That last battle was just sick, and not in a good way. I feel like my summons carried me, not only on that fight, but on many of the difficult ones since my skimi doesn't do so much damage per hit; it's when I get to R1-spam for a while that it starts to shine.
How are the covenants for you guys? I didn't get summoned once in the whole playthrough in my covenant(s). Do you need to be in the same area or something? Do you need to be in ember form? One time I was white-soapstoning in a world which got invaded, got to finish two reds, game even told me I got the covenant items, and then: "connection error" and no items in inventory after returning to own world.
You do need to be in the same area, the game will inform you if your sign vanishes. You don't need to be embered. I did quite a bit of getting summoned, and summoning myself on three bosses on my first playthrough (honestly, I tend to prefer soloing or summoning NPCs).
I only tried invading once, got my ass kicked by a gank squad :P
I got invaded a few times, once getting an invader with no animations. I believe that was a glitch, since I almost won that fight.
The servers seem quite crowded at this point, and it's no wonder considering this is the publisher's fastest selling game. I'm seeing a shitton of summon signs, but most don't work, I guess because the players get immediately summoned elsewhere.
I LOVED the final battle. Yeah, it's difficult, and it throws you for a loop over the way he can flip between multiple movesets, but that just serves to keep you own your toes. It was fun, that's what's important.
Though I will admit that after 4-5 times of managing to get him down to within a hit or two before getting killed off myself, I did get fed up, and ended up summoning a sunbro in for help. We kicked his ass, along with the ass of some poor invader who thought he'd be cute trying to gank me in front of the fog door, only to last literally less than 3 seconds once the swords started swinging.
Oh, and did you know there are 4 endings to the game, instead of the usual 2?
Fortunately, I had my faithful Yuria by my side![]()
Yeah, white soapstoning worked fine for me both ways, but the covenant summonings didn't (the covenant items you equip into the covenant slot says that the summoning would be automatic). When in ember form (and not in a bonfire-area), the covenant icon in the upper left corner flashes, that's why I thought it might have something to do with it.
I did some some troll invasions with dual-wielding candlesticks wearing a pope-suit in the castle, but the gank-squads didn't seem to appreciate that. Also there was another red who decided to attack me, which I thought was pretty retarded.
I highly recommend invading in Irithyll in SL 50-70 – it can get pretty intense!
No, I didn't even know there were 2! There's still so much to find in this game for me, for example stuff I've seen summons and summoners wear. I wish I knew where to look.Originally Posted by Renzatic

Yeah, there's TONS of easily missed stuff to discover in the game, even though I admit spoiled myself on the preview version.
OK so apparently some of the covenants are broken, at least for some players. But one can get covenant items as drops from certain enemies. I've gotten the shackles for the purple covenant from the black-caped dudes in the catacombs, for example. For my covenant, Silver Knights drop the concords. But the drop rate is abysmal; I have 40 luck, the crystal sage rapier, and the mimics head for a total of 290 item discovery, and a couple of hours of farming in Anor Londo has netted me a whopping total of one (1!) concord! I can get a slab more easily from dark wraiths in DS1 for christ sake! This is my only big gripe with the game at the moment, I hope they fix the covenants soon.
The covenants are broken as hell. I didn't get summoned once. I also have a lot of problems with not being able to enter into boss rooms when sunbro'ing etc.
Still, it's an awesome game despite an occasional problem. The linear progression is what bothers me the most, but it's not that bad, because the levels are so amazing.
BTW who's your favorite boss? Favorite's got to be the twin princes. That fight gets me as much as Astraea and Garl Vinland did in Demon's Souls. It's sad, very climactic, and I seriously get goosebumps when Lothric whispers "Rise if you would" to Lorian ;p . And the soundtrack is god-tier. Also Lorian's set + the Nameless King's Crown and Ornstein Spear's got to be my favorite fashion souls - makes my character look as if he was from Dynasty Warriors :P
My favorite boss? Pontiff Sulyvahn. He was the first boss in the game that put up a proper good fight, and probably one of the most intense fights in the entire series, minus The Soul of Cinder and the Fume Knight. Most of them up to that point only took me about 2-4 tries before I'd best them. Not him, though. First time I ran up to him, he tore through me like a wet piece of paper. He was relentless. It took me about 10 tries to bring him down, with the end of the fight being down to him and I both left with nothing but a single hit between us standing between victory of death.
AND I WON!![]()
Just defeated the 5th boss Deakons of the Deep and received a quest to find and return Siegward's lost armor, which I really have no idea where it could be but hopefully I will run into it at some point.
About that quest salass00: I think you can find it now, and it'd be best if you do it quickly, because if you go too far into the game you might fail the quest. The NPC quests in this one are easy to fail.
@Severian_Silk
I just reached the next boss (Watchers of the Abyss) but I guess I will go back and search the areas leading up to the cathedral some more. At least I know I skipped some loot in the crucifixion woods swamp because I was out of healing at the time and it was guarded by a giant crab. I've already checked and rechecked all of the areas in and around the cathedral so I'm pretty sure it's not there at least and I'm assuming that it has to be in one of the areas between where I saw him the first time and where he is right now (at the bottom of a well).
If you can't find what you need in the Cathedral, then do this: go back to Firelink Shrine, get to the belltower and proceed toward the elevator. Then turn around.
Yeah, this game is CONVOLUTED.

Woooooo, I'm having a blast!
Just defeated today the Deacons of the Deep...man, the setting is so haunting, I loved it!
The fight against the Watchers of the Abyss was pretty intense on the second half. Reminded me quite a lot of Artorias (besides the obvious reasons).
Fun times!

@van HellSing
Thanks for the hint. I just tried it out and it worked.
Going over the previous areas wasn't time wasted though as I found quite a bit of loot that I'd missed before while doing this.
Welp, game over. Got the 'best' ending, though as with previous Souls game, I don't know what the hell any of this actually accomplished.
I meant more generally. Three games I've been linking the fires, and I have no fucking clue why fires would need to be linked, or why they should be linked, or what linking the fires actually does, or why anyone in this world would do anything but go hollow, because at least that way you get to stop noticing how much the world sucks. It's like a nihilist folk tale.
What do you mean by "best ending"? Because opinions vary.
Linking the fire was supposed to basically prevent the world from ending, to rejuvenate it to a less fucked-up state. But I'd say this game proves that it's always been pointless to do so. Linking the fire in the first game resulted in a big flash of light, suggesting the first flame really might have been rekindled. But here? it barely seems to do anything. Even the sun is still screwed up. So, this would suggest diminishing returns - the fire is fading anyway, and it needs more and more effort to artificially keep it alive at all. Letting the flame die on the other hand will eventually lead to a true rebirth. It's still a vicious cycle, but that seems to be the natural order of things for this universe.
Don't ask me about the third option just yet though, I still need to ruminate on that.
