It depends on the situation. I never use a shield during boss fights, but pull it out all the time to fight regular enemies using relatively normal sized weapons. A hit against a greatshield almost always guarantees an easily taken advantage of stagger on their end.

She really is. Just about any of the Ithyrill based bosses are a blast to fight.

Just defeated my 9th boss after taking a break from playing for about a week.

You handled yourself a helluva lot better than I did fighting the pontiff. I think that guy took me at least 15 tries.

So, gents, any idea what the DLC will hold? Will it be the one package or a trilogy like in DS 2?

Man, I'd love for one last hurrah for Manus...

I bet it's going to be another trilogy, hence the season pass.

Also, I'm betting $5 now that one of the expansions will be based around Lost Izalith. It's a little suspicious how the game had you coming within spitting distance of it, only to just dead end at a merely decent piece of loot.

With all the strange, distorted chaos monsters running around down there, liberally decorated with the corpses of dead Capra Demons? Oh yes, there's a story to be told there.

Thanks. I would estimate I beat him on my 7th attempt, the attempts in the youtube video being my 2nd, 5th and 7th attempts. On my 1st attempt I tried to use the halberd exclusively for this fight and it did not go well.

Still better than me. My first three attempts had him beating on me like a stuffed rag doll. It was so, so sad.

Though I see you're also suffering from the same bad habit I had. I used to take a swig off my flask for even the slightest amount of damage. Nowadays, I'll ignore it so long as I'm not down below the next-hit-will-kill me threshold.

I read somewhere that there will be two DLCs, one in late 2016 and one early 2017.

There's a few sources reporting the same thing. Hopefully this will give them enough time to fix their buggy pvp/co-op, which is unexpected considering how well this worked in BB and DS2.

Also keen to learn more about what their new IP will be.

I still hope they'll release Prepare to Die a Lot for the Last Time, Really, Edition

    Time for honesty:

Boss fight/Area that caused you the most deaths?

I'm still playing (probably over half way I reckon; not using any walkthrough) but the only one that took more than 10 tries is the Dancer.

Proooooobably Nameless King on the first playthrough. I should note that I tend to summon NPC phantoms if available.

No boss ever took me more than a few tries, especially if I co-oped, though for areas I'd probably say the underground tunnels of Smouldering Lake and parts of Lothric Castle certainly gave me a hard time.

    Fuck those red-eyed skeleton assassins...and mini-Vordt knights.

That run up from the courtyard to the cathedral in Irithyll was an absolute pain in the ass for me. Pairing off those 8 foot tall dual-wielding crazy fast knights alongside those pyromancers who could hit you from 2000 miles away was an evil, evil thing to do.

Irithyll was the partwhere I started abusing Hidden Body on my first playthrough. The boss is obnoxious as well. I'm on my second playthrough (doing a STR build now with a Zweihander as main weapon) and I managed to get through it this time. I'm also trying to solo all bosses now and I managed to do so with Pontiff just now. I parried him four times, and really that was the only way I could win, because there's no way I can sustain dodging him for minutes while doing practically chip damage.

That area gave me trouble at first, but then I just ran over the place. Still, cool enemies

    Just beat my 10th boss.

The fight was very reminiscent of Gwyndolin, the Dark Sun, from the first Dark Souls game.

FWIW I didn't find any of the above ground Irithyll enemies all that tough apart from that giant lizard that sneaks up on you on the bridge at the beginning (I think it took me four attempts to kill it). After the initial shock of meeting the fire witches I found they were relatively easily dealt with.

Also before this boss I stabbed a woman in the face with a ceremonial wedding sword. Very strange rituals they have in Lothric (or maybe it's just Londor?). I actually made a recording of this last thing but it's very short as I had to cut out a lot of video of me just aimlessly running around not knowing what to do because the action prompt wouldn't show up for me immediately (I can upload it if there is interest though).

It's because he was munching on Gwyndolin's corpse right when you entered his room .

He didn't just eat Gwyndolin, he's wearing him on his head, along with Nito's skeleton skirt.

Hey, you're right! He gobbled up so much, it all literally sticks out.

Btw salass it's great watching a 1 on 1 fight. I wouldn't even try fighting that slime Aldrich by myself. That bow attack is brutal.

I would say that the skeletons are just there to show that he's eaten people and the bones probably haven't been digested yet.

FWIW one of my thoughts after fighting this battle was that he actually was Gwyndolin and had just changed his name and gone insane and started eating people, but then I realised that that doesn't really make much sense and I figured he's probably called "Devourer of Gods" for a reason as in he's probably eaten both Gwyndolin and Priscilla (Lifehunt Scythe is one of the weapons you can make from his soul and I think is also one that he wields).

BTW looking again at the video I made I noticed that when he hits with melee weapon he steals your health (regenerates). I never noticed that effect during the fight because I was just too busy staying alive and trying to kill him.

    Edit:
Just remembered the Lifehunt Scythe you get from Aldrich's soul is actually a miracle rather than the weapon but I guess it still can be taken to mean that he has devoured crossbreed Priscilla as well.

Thanks. I try to make it a rule to defeat all or at least most of the bosses alone on my first time through a souls game.

Regarding the bow attack I would say that the best way to dodge it is to sprint away from it in a zigzag pattern. If you just run straight it will very likely catch up with you and you will die unless it's very early in the fight where it doesn't last so long.
