Thread: The picture (and fashion) thread

Given the diversity and abundance of beautiful locations, the range of enemies and NPCs encountered, as well as the variety of fashion opportunities in the Soul's (and Bloodborne) games, setting up this thread for you all to showcase your favourite screenshots.

I'm hoping to avoid too many mega threads in this forum so am copying (not moving) some of the recent image posts from other threads into this one. Just keep in mind when reading as many of the comments probably won't make sense . It's not something I'm going to police but I do encourage you all to create separate threads when it makes sense to do so.

Please beware that this thread contains spoilers from all 4 games...

So just for the hell of it, I decided to refresh my memory as to what my Dark Souls character is like, and loaded up my character. As expected, he was waiting patiently not too far into New Game+ at the firelink shrine. Behold the horrible mishmash of different armour:

    <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0h0whg4TG0fmnN1yWjr5h9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TzKT0pZj6rk/URLTuHSd5EI/AAAAAAAACMY/ey3D1k1FzD0/s640/P1080641.JPG" height="360" width="640" /></a>

    And character sheet:

    <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/jsDrAq3BYgxoPFRgH8fgcNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6N_rSCXWKMg/URLTuooeCwI/AAAAAAAACMg/zvEQMP_4JWY/s640/P1080646.JPG" height="360" width="640" /></a>

I uploaded a few more screenshots of my equipment to the same album, but here's a summary:
Eagle Shield +12 : Yes, the physical resistance was reduced to 95% on PS3 once I let it download the patch
Dragon Crest Shield +5 : I will probably start using this more until I can equip a better Tower Shield
    Quelaag's Furysword +5
    Magic Iaito +9
    Lightning Spear +5
Fire Winged Spear +10 : In retrospect, fire enchantment was redundant after I made the Furysword, but it served me well in Sen's Fortress.

    And the armour mishmash:
    Silver Knight Helm +5
    Wanderer Coat +10
    Baldur Gauntlet +9
    Crimson Waistcloth +5

The armour was basically whatever gave the best stats that I could equip without going over 50% weight.

FYI: PS3 players of Dark Souls can grab the Artorias of the Abyss addon on sale right now. I picked it up, but it may be a while before I play through again to try it.

(comedy ninja hat purely because what with the zweihander and all, I'm only 2 points shy of fatrolling, and it's the most stylish hat I own that won't shove me over the limit. Also, the zweihander is fantastic. Strong attack more or less staggers anything it doesn't kill outright, and with 40 endurance I have the stamina to do that three times, mostly while chuckling to myself and muttering STAY DOWN. I think this game has broken me)

The easiest way to do it is to summon Solaire and let him draw some of the attention. That fight is a helluva lot more manageable when you don't have to worry about both of them gunning for you.

I remember sitting there, staring at that elevator for a good 5 minutes, watching it go up and down, up and down, up and down, trying to decide what to do. I knew something bad would happen on it. I mean comeon, it was caked with old, congealed, rusty brown blood. And not just a little bit. The thing was caked, like it was thick and scabby looking. But I wanted to know where it led to. I had to know where it led to. I figured, hey, fortune favors the bold, right? It might be worth the risk. So hopped on, and...

    ...WELL HELL.

I think the player character looks like this. Did anyone notice the character was able to hop back out of harms way? I'm wondering what sort of new mechanics we will see. Will there even be classes? I hope they keep varied and unique weapon move sets.

    OH and some new screens.

There also appears to be some sort of timed press on attacks, like charging up the swing.

    The picture (and fashion) thread

Alrighty, super early first impressions after maybe 3 hours of playtime. I'm still pretty much in the prologue I think. The whole game hasn't downloaded yet on my PS4 so Online functionality isn't enabled yet and I haven't gotten to the point where I can level up my character yet. Explored a lot though and bought some better armor and leveled up my weapon.

Class selection screen. I went with "Professional", which is low on Strength, but high on Skill (Dex). Seems like carry weight doesn't matter so much in this, and you'll move and roll just as fast no matter what you're wearing.

At the start you're given a choice of 3 weapons. I picked this badass cane, which transforms into an even more badass chain which you can whip around.

The world design is great. It wraps around a lot and lets you unlock shortcuts back to earlier areas. Also I've already found a couple secret paths just by smashing down stuff. Also seems to be more interactivity with NPCs and the world. You can take on sidequests, and there are short readables here and there.

As for the bad stuff: I got stuck on geometry once and had to sacrifice my gathered souls(which aren't called "souls"), and the loadtimes are really long. Pretty much constantly over half a minute, which becomes a real pain when you're dying a lot redoing the same bossfight over and over.

I vaguely recall the priest in the congregation boss fight having one. Thing is, I thought it was a part of the character. Never knew it was an item.

The reason I assumed it was specific to Scholar is due to how I found it. I used a Yore branch on a petrified lion that was in a place there wasn't one before, and he dropped it after I killed him.

Let me put on my monocle while I respectfully disagree!

Although I had mustache and beard, how did I lose it? Now I look like Jacko :/ Scratch that, it's young Michael Palin. Although he goes by the name of Vincent. Hope Michael Palin would like that.

Since I'm done with Witcher 3 (for now anyway) I decided to start a dual wield caestus build just for fun:

Bosses that I've beaten already with it are Pursuer, Last Giant, Dragon Rider and Flexile Sentry.

I might later try out some of the other fist weapons as well but for now I'm sticking to caestus, except maybe when I need to kill one of those crystal lizards as they are really hard to hit with fist weapons.

I've made it to Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. Those Pontif Knights are the worst. Here are some screenshots.

I've been using that for most of the game so far -- it's relatively light and has decent protection against most types of attack.

I actually find the new version of the Shrine a little depressing, which I think is a result of the choice of music, dead ends and a lack of conversation options for most of the characters.

And we need a fashion thread, not another Mega but in the meantime...

    Thanks for the helmet buddy.

Guess I need to do a bit more exercise.

    Nice screenshots. Keep them coming.

I was still planning to play DS3 somewhere after the summer. October maybe. But seeing these screenshots, I am not sure I will be able to wait .... Next month when I'll have my new gtx1080, I'm gonna want to play a modern good-looking game. DS3 seems the perfect game for that.

DS2 is also rather gorgeous (as is DS1 of course) but it's a generation behind techwise so obviously not at the same level as DS3. I will copy over some pictures when i get a chance.
