A citation is more than just a reference to a work. Typically you would have both a citation of the relevant part of the original text as well as a specific reference to the place in the work it appears in (for example, timestamps for a video). And no, this isn't Wikipedia, but even in a forum discussion, offering an hour long video as a reference is a bit of a tall ask.
I played Thief for years before discovering...
..that there is a forum for Thief games. And that fan missions exist.
Well, this is obvious but still the most beautiful thing I ever found out.
only just discovered a few days ago that ropes react physically when you throw objects at them! i knew explosions would make them wobble madly, but didnt realise just random debris would behave similarly.
It seems that Thief school is still in session. I have learned a few new things since I last posted at 2019's end.I didn't know that either. On a similar note I've learned that you can move loot with water arrows.I was watching klatremus's T2X series and in one of the videos (mission 7) there was a loot on a shelf that you can't get to without triggering a trap. So he used water arrows to move it to the opposite side of the shelf, then went around to that side a different way, and got the loot without setting off the trap.
I was thinking "what the hell". I never knew the concept of moving loot to a more convenient or accessible collection spot was a thing.
Speaking of arrows, I was watching another Thief Gold video series by LiliaTV and they mentioned a tip passed onto them by a viewer that I hadn't really thought about. To test if a surface will take a rope arrow, you can shoot it with a broadhead first. If the broadhead sticks, so will a rope arrow.Sounds interesting. But where would one find a sandbag? Sorry my mind is blank on this. Although Thieves Guild is perhaps ringing a bell?I can definately zoom in once the arrow is drawn back. I have turned off auto-bow zoom and use manual zoom. Maybe having auto-zoom on disrupts manual bow zoom?So every time there is a bookcase with a secret book-switch the switch is always the same book in the same position? Oh my word can honestly say I never noticed that. I too was searching all over the bookcase for any frobable books
Now I have known this flashbomb tip for years, but last year I saw a video series by Travis Whitsitt who didn't know this tip despite having played for years, so was wondering whether people generally knew about this. Did you know that you can avoid being blinded by your flashbombs if you look up immediately after throwing or dropping them, and before they detonate?
Just a couple more things I became aware of in recent times, mainly through watching other people's video series.
In Assassins that loot right in front of the chest in Ramirez's bedroom. Also the secret passage in the library.
In Mage Towers I did not realise that you could bypass the moving platforms in the Earth Tower just by shooting a rope arrow into the ceiling and climbing up. I needlessly died so many times to those platforms while earlier trying to Iron Man that mission. I couldn't believe that trying a rope arrow in the ceiling never occured to me
In Lost City I never knew that the tomb with the lever is modelled after the layout of a real-life tomb. Or so it appears in a side by side comparison video someon posted on this forum a while back.
In Escape! you can find your RTTC loot, near a bugbeast on the mansion ground floor I think. And I used to not bother grabbing loot in RTTC thinking it was irrelevant

Yesterday I learned that I can kill fire elemental with one overhead swing from my sword, but only if it's unalerted. And today I learned that I can also kill with sword zombie if I whack him a lot. His body doesn't even explode.
the zombie don't die with regular sword but if you keep a certain distance from the zombie he will stay down, but if you go back by the zombie to close he will rise up for some more love taps
never knew about sword and unalearted fire elemental do you get burned at all
I found out about the fire elemental pretty early. I was standing there not moving in a kind of shock it worked after the swwwwooooppppt death sound.
On the zombs, I am not sure about that unless it was patched in. My very first play through on Craigs, I tried to kill a zomb like this and it never worked.
Edit: Saw the last reply. Maybe then I fell short, will have to try on my replay through. It was cool to find out wooden doors often unlock/open if you are willing to stay and whack.
galaer if that is the case then author did something to code to change normal way zombies work=but its a cool idea, kinda like some missions you can remove there heads/etc
but normally they get back up if you get to close to them
freakiest thing i ever seen in thief is when the zombie's head only follows you,you can run around it and it will do 360 degree turns over and over, its one of the scariest things i ever seen
the mission it happen on was the fan mission using thief 3 maps in thief 2 a fire is in lower area you have to use a bucket i think to get to pagan place but there are some zombies there it happen there down the stairs
I tried version 1 of this mission and this time I needed around 50 hits from sword to kill zombie.
Another thing I learned today is if you die from fall damage and grab rope later this gives you ability to move. Normally you are lying on ground, but thanks to rope you can climb up, move around if you drop from rope and even jump. It's really fun to jump as a corpse, because you are looking at an angle as dead. Of course you have only couple of seconds until screen will fade out, but that's still funny.

Elevator Mission (T1 version), but I also encountered problem with corrupted saves and it was possible after loading game to attack him few times and then it would die permanently. So maybe that's the issue.
From new things I discovered is that it's possible to take down bigger bot with just 1 gas arrow. I always thought it requires 2 gas arrows. At least that's how it works in Sisterhood of Azura 1.
Wait, what? You can take down bots with gas arrows?
On another note I played through T1, TG and T2 and a few hundred fan missions before finding out about the lean forward function. I can't remember the FM I was playing but there was a secret switch under a desk and the only way to get to it was by leaning forward. My life has been changed forever now that I can lean forward to knock out AI while hiding in the shadows ... It almost feels like a cheat.
True, quicksave is a bit of a cheat but who could possibly survive without it?
Nah thats a glitch from saving and reloading the game. I was messing around with Zombies for hours trying to fix their models. Even playing a very old new dark patch before tfix.
Actually that version also had the head follow thing and I reloaded after I flashed them till they dropped and when I reloaded, they were all standing still and their entire bodies were moving.
They actually have a death sound if you look in the snd folder though. Sounds like a dying pig snorting haha
No one mentioned the secret infinite bouncy arrow in T2 Ambush. I read all 8 pages to see if anyone mentioned it. That was the most fun ever to use. It so easy to lose it though since it bounces a lot.
I just realized while trying to ghost, the 4 Burricks in Bonehoard by the Horn are entranced and can't see or hear you until after you take the horn.
Also I thought I just found out the elemental energy thing in Bafford right before I read the post about it on here (watched the entire interview btw)
I thought it was wireless energy transfer, but I guess it's wireless elemental power? I never knew what those things were . Explains all the things on top the lights
Someone was on my Bro's twitch stream of Thief Gold (I think he was on RTC) and said "You can lockpick mines to disarm them" We were in such disbelief
I loaded RTC and tried. I was so close trying picks on it that I leaned into it and died. I said it didn't work on the stream and my Bro was like "obviously he was trolling"
Now I found out its only possible in T2 from this thread LOL. He wasn't trolling I guess . At least Mono on DromEd says Mine Disarmed.
i guess there is 4 elemental types, fire, water, earth and air only fire was in om's and in fan missions i seen water/earth/air along with fire elemental
i would guess its the air element that does lamps?
any mention of a fifth element in thief lore ever?
The elements of fire, water, earth and air correspond to the Flamsie, Tidestream, Stone and Stormsie compasses respectively.Originally Posted by M12RITL in books.crf from TG
Since there are also compasses of Darkness, Leaf and Borning we can infer that they are also elements.
Given that the classic Greek elements sometimes incorporates "void" as the fifth element we could assume that that to correspond to Darkness.
As for Leaf and Borning, I would hazard a guess that they might refer to plant and animal life as being elements.
The Cragscleft Prison mission fails if you climb out of the mines to the surface - the mission explicitly wants Garrett to sneak through the mines.
Specifically, in the first room of the mine after the dive there is a shaft on the left leading to the surface.
If you stack some crates up to climb out, the mission will fail.
you right phantom about air element in mage towers i forgot about that
and thinking robot once i tried to climb over the board at start of that mission but no luck
Oh, that´s pretty simple. Just take two boulders, stack them at the low end of the board and pull yourself up.
There is a nice view, but nothing is up there
If you want a little challenge, it is possible to enter the Cragscleft mines dry.
Because we all know Garrett doesn´t want to soak his precious robe.
PM me and I show you a video as proof :P
