The first Uncharted definitely hasn't aged well. I think that especially the second game still holds up well (and the third, though IMO it's clearly the lesser of the two), if you accept it for what it is and what it isn't. But the first Uncharted isn't one I would care to revisit.

Gameplay is quite fun, but if feels very superficial, very light in comparison to TLOU.

It's only sinking in now. It's going to be a long time until I play something anywhere near as good as that again.

I really loved TLOU2 too, both the gameplay (the amazing level design!) and the story. I didn't even like the first one very much, yet cried like a baby during this!

I didn't cry like a baby but it was definitely emotional.

Abby with short hair was so gaunt. I really felt she'd been through enough hell by then. I didn't want to fight her.

This relates more to the first game, but I saw they cast the two lead roles for the upcoming HBO series. Pedro Pascal (Mandalorian/Game of Thrones) is playing Joel, and Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont, also GoT) is playing Ellie.

Seems like pretty good choices all around. The director is the guy who did Chernobyl, so this could actually end up being really good.

Actually, Craig Mazin who wrote Chernobyl is set to write and executive produce the show. Looks like there'll be different directors for each ep?

“Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin is attached to write and executive produce the series along with Druckmann. Carolyn Strauss will also executive produce along with Evan Wells, president of game development studio Naughty Dog. PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will also executive produce. Kantemir Balagov is set to direct the pilot. The project is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, and Naughty Dog produce.

Anyway, that's some pretty good talent in front of and behind the camera. Promising.

Not a fan of that Ellie casting choice, at all. Pedro for Joel is not bad though. Interested.

I think she's fine. I think anyone short of Ellen Page circa 2005 probably won't satisfy everyone.

I'm not suggesting a replacement, don't get me wrong. She just doesn't have the right look. I dunno. Let's see. That cover for Princess Di in The Crown seemed weak but with the hair and makeup and great acting she naaaailed it.

I'm aware, but back in 2005, she was Ellen Page.

They need to put out a PS5 60fps patch for this game already. (That or a PC port, which would be even better.)

Now that people are no longer hyped to see a beloved character suffer, I would like to remind the good people of TTLG that Naughty Dog is a crunch studio.

Yeah we know. It sucks. Kinda wild how huge studios like ND, Rockstar and CD Project Red can have hundreds of people working on games for years and still need to crunch. I'm one dude and I churned out Stilt Fella in ~9 months of ~35 hour weeks. No crunch whatsoever! I guess when you got MORE people they all gotta work HARDER!? Anyway, why did I bring this up? Just to brag? Yes! I'm better at making games than most AAA studios!

    Yeah, yeah, we know.

I had a conversation with an ex-Naughty Dog developer, part of which went something like this:

AF: "Maybe the right thing to do is to just not buy games from crunch studios."
eND: "Try to imagine how that would make one of the developers feel."

That shocked me into silence. Anyway, now I can say, thank goodness for piracy and thank goodness for eBay.

HAHAHA, the only difference with the PS5 "remaster" seems to be just increased Ambient Occlusion. Essentially the upgrade is buying you a rogue-like horde mode, sticky taped together from assets made for the infinitely delayed Factions 2.0 MP mode + plus some "deleted scenes" you can stuff around in.

The only thing stopping this from being as an egregious cash grab as the tLoU 1 remake is that they're only asking a $10 USD upgrade fee vs. $70 USD.

To be honest I probably wouldn’t pay $10. I loved the first 10 hours or so, but it dragged so hard at the middle and end that I ended up quitting before the final scene. I also found the bleakness off-putting. Like, why does Naughty Dog want me to hate all of their characters? They made their point about the horrors of war and then didn’t stop making it for like 20 more hours, and it felt like a grin Lots of pretty set pieces, though.

The nice thing is you don't need to buy it, because TLoU 2 already has a 60 FPS patch for PS5. The update gives you PS5-specific features like VRR though along with an unlocked frame rate, if that's important to you. The cut levels and commentary are a neat add-on, but that really just means this should have been called a Director's Cut, if not much is in fact being remastered. I don't see the need to get it it, but the fact that it exists as an optional purchase is a good thing.

I'm kinda surprised they're not working on a PC version in parallel, but perhaps it's a matter of system exclusivity.

It'll definitely happen, but yeah, they probably want to stagger releases for whatever their reasons are.

Not even 4k 60, just 1440p 60/uncapped (latter thanks to HDMI 2.2 + VRR). Fucking pathetic.

The new roguelike mode looks like a good time. The stealth-action gameplay is fun enough on its own to carry a mode like this.

I'm also intrigued by the deleted scenes and commentary. If I ever feel like replaying TLOU2, for some reason, I'll probably get this update.

I keep thinking about whether I should replay TLoU 2, and I keep ending up with '...nah' as the answer. It was a pretty great game, but I think the gameplay was mostly just about all right. Its mechanics were always designed to be in service of the story, and when you divorce the gameplay from the story, I don't think the experience is going to be terribly compelling by itself. Given that I still have the journey fresh in my mind, it's going be some time before I feel the urge to revisit it.
