I wasn't intending to use it as a jumping on point for debate so much as to figure out what the sensible conservative option supposedly is since from outside the bubble, it mostly looks like a choice between exaggerated cartoon villains.
Okay, I understand why Trump doesn't use those to attack her. He doesn't want to be sued for libel. Although it troubles me how much she has taken in speaking fees from foreign sources it is nowhere near hundreds of millions. A few million all totaled is disturbing enough and true. No arms to ISIS. It evidently takes a foreigner to notice that there's something very un-American about recent American politics, but it's true. I was thinking it looks like European politics from a century ago in just the way that America used to looked down on and pride itself for being insulated from. But at any rate it's rather alien from our political tradition and the amazing thing is how much it's not provoking our traditional allergies to illiberalism.
Americans on both sides of the spectrum seem to be quite stoked lately that there's this exciting new illiberal alternative to "broken government" that apparently nobody's ever thought of before ... except it's not new at all, it has a quite long and well-understood history, and it almost never ends up going the way people expect or want in hindsight.
Now I'm really pissed off. Donald Trump: Punish women for illegal abortions. I wasn't really. I thought he was a bit of a buffoon, not too dissimilar to Boris Johnson. But this is just horrible.
I read some news earlier today which I can no longer find on the site, about Cruz's (maybe ?) supporters publishing a nude photo of Trump's wife (one of his wives?) and Trump supporters publishing an unflattering photo of Cruz's wife (maybe, could be the other guy) and I was rather shocked. It seems to me to be trawling the depths to attack your opponent in this way. Never mind having a go at the policies, just go for the wives. Perhaps it wasn't quite like this sounds. I'm annoyed that I can't find the original report now.
I'm used to the Brit media publishing photos of various politicians' wives and criticising their wardrobe but a nude photo? Bit extreme?
The abortion comments are pure fodder. The president doesn't have any power to personally overturn the constitution/supreme court, so it's empty rhetoric he can't actually do like most, possibly all, of what he says. But demeaning women and women's issues has been good to him. People love it. That's what's so messed up.
As for the photos, well his wife was a model and used to occassionally pose nude in magazines (back when those still existed), so it's not like they were secret or paparazzi photos or anything. And they were still technically 'swimsuit' photos, not straight up porn fwiw, just without the actual swimsuit.
She got paid to expose her body to millions of people and had the looks to be good at it, it was perfectly legal, I guess you could say it speaks to Trump's character in the same way candidates always point to their wives'/spouses' careers as a reflection of their values (except noticibly not Hillary), and religious types want to remind their kind of that same point. I don't see anyone doing anything too bad in this case. Nothing wrong in advertising what the possible first lady's freely chosen career track was like. Either your values are it's great that the first lady used to pose nude or it's awful, but either way, it's about values and free choice.
I don't think it should be too big a deal since the wives shouldn't get more weight than a candidate's own qualifications, and Trump is doing just fine pissing on religious values by himself to have to worry what his wife used to do ages ago. The reverse photos attacking Cruz's wife for being frumpy is just being swarmy though.

Ordinarily I would agree but I can't know Trump and so I have to take him as he presents himself. If he's so generous and kind-hearted, why does that not show. I do accept that what I see is what's given to me by media and they all have their own agendas.
Ironically, when asked about it, he has stated that he likes to keep that side of himself private...He likes to help people privately, and he feels good about doing it that way. (I'll look for the clip when I have the time)

Those are mighty weak adjectives you've used to replace antisemitic, xenophobic, homophobic, rate-baiting, misogynistic, and violent. Anyone can help an old lady across the street. You may even get rewarded for it. But tapping into the misplaced anger and hatred of an entire demographic, and then using those ugly traits to propel yourself to the highest office in the land? That takes a special kind of bad guy. Not to mention that if he does get elected, his voters will expect him to live up to all the racist bullshit he's spouting, and when he doesn't, don't think for a second those same voters won't start to act on the things he sold them as being "right." Either way this goes, it's not going to end well. Especially in small, southern towns with a white majority population. That's not going to change no matter how many little old ladies he visited in the hospital.

So... What happens if this goes to a convention fight? Which seems highly probable at this point. Does it go to Kasich, as the only guy still running who isn't despised by the establishment? If so, how do Cruz and Trump react? Third party? How do their voters - many already the angry sort - react?
I'm not asking whether it's private or not, I'm asking why it doesn't show. If he is a genuinely kind and considerate person, it should show. It doesn't. I'll add a small disclaimer that it might show in real life but I doubt it. I don't think you can spout the stuff he spouts and be a genuinely kind and generous person. It doesn't add up.
