I've come across all sorts of Spears, including those, but I wouldn't go as far as to call those trolling. One important note I should have mentioned is that I'm on PS4. In my experience the PC version is just chock-full of dicks. To me, trolling was this one squad who kept summoning red sign phantoms in the hallway and ganked them one by one.

The other side of that fight is when the host summons the meanest squad who just pummel the Spear into the ground the second he gets summoned.

I actually once got summoned as a Spear, even though I had a white sign down, not to mention I don't even have the covenant item!
There was this one damn awesome Spear who used the same weapon as the NPC Spear and he was truly a master of that weapon, it was beatiful to watch my ass getting handed to me.

What's your build btw? I'm playing the DLC with this, in NG. Leveled Vig and End a bit since then though. Have a few other weapons upgraded too, like the Mace or the Millwood Axe among others, but I've been using the Quakestone Hammer most of the time.

^Mine? INT/DEX build with emphasis on INT (by accident). I keep changing the weapon between rapier, Ricard's rapier, claymore, and Lothric knight straightsword. All sharp infused. And crystal magic weapon buff to go with them. No other spells.

The first boss of the Ringed City DLC defeated on NG+3:

It took me quite a few attempts before I managed to beat the second phase of the fight.

OK this is fucking ridiculous.. third day trying to beat this fucking boss. It is not possible to beat. I can't count the number of times I've tried. As a summon. None of the times has even come close, and the second phase might as well be a nuclear explosion, clearing fucking everything from everywhere, non-dodgeable, non-blockable, non-fucking-anythingable. You even glance the beam and you're dead! I've tried everything from pestilent mercury to twisted-fucking-wall-of-light. None of it works. Even if I go all-in on damage with a red tearstone setup, I barely fucking scratch the thing.

I've watched youtube videos, I've read forum posts. They all make it look sooo easy. Fuck those people. Fuck them right in their hollow eyesockets!

The simplest strategy is simply to try and get behind him, and only strike then. Never stray too far away from him, and always try to strafe him to the left or the right.

Of course this is easier said than done, considering he hops around like a mad mofo, and takes to the sky every chance he gets. But that's generally your best bet.

If you still can't beat him, I'll set down a passworded summon, and give you a hand.

Dangit. One of the better attempts recently included a healer, and that seemed to work quite nicely up to a point: the tail swipe often gets the melee people under his belly. Bow users can take the aggro and keep baiting the ranged attacks so it gives the melee guys time to get in some damage.
    In theory, that is...

I'm in the process of gathering souls to restock on arrows (moonlight arrows are expensive!) using the Spear fight and now I can't seem to be able to beat anyone. Makes me want to smash the controller. Grrr.

The only problem with going with ranged against him is that he'll inevitably summon those meteors. They're easy to avoid if you're near him, since they're cast in front of him. But if you're not near enough to him? Yeah, you're gonna die.

I'd suggest doing what I did. Summon Gael, and have him draw some aggro. It makes the fight a bit easier.

Gael? Meteors? We're not talking about the same boss. I'm talking about Darkeater Midir.

I managed to defeat the last boss solo, surprising even myself. Used the same setup as I did for Soul of Cinder and the Princes - Havel's Shield and a Bleed Barbed Sword. It's a reasonably well done fight, even though the boss has way too much health. I'm not gonna bother with Midir though, I don't like bosses where the camera is part of the challenge and the rewards would be useless for this character anyway. I'll try on one of my other characters, too bad they're all in NG+2.

All in all I think I liked the previous DLC more. The environments were better and IMO the weapon/armor loot was better as well. The weapons in this DLC are too anime for my tastes. The dual greatshields are cool though.

EDIT: This is how the build looked by the end of it.

Holy shit, the optional boss for this DLC is just murderous. Gobs of health, incredible defense, shockingly quick and agile for a Dark Souls boss, and fast room spanning attacks that can kill in a single hit.

I have killed every boss of Dark Souls 3 base game + Ashes of Ariandel + 1st boss of The Ringed City solo. I shall kill the rest solo. Including Darkeater Midir.

    BRING DA PAIN!

NOW....to be fair....I am playing it NG, ha! Bloodborne's DLC is where I am REALLY going to feel DA PAIN since I'm in NG+3 and there's no way I'm starting from scratch just so the bosses aren't -that- punishing. BRING IT!

MrDuck: Soloing him looks like it could be, and I know this is going to sound absurd, easier. Reason being, when there is only one person aggroing him, he wont be so unpredictable (in the first phase anyway), but also the HP pool etc. won't get scaled up.

Renzatic: It occured to me that your instructions apply equally well for this boss!

Malleus: I feel that the camera isn't that big of an issue: there is only one move he does which makes locking-on difficult if not impossible, and he does that relatively rarely.

On a related note: I still wish Manus had been the last boss of the game, and though it feels slightly left field, I think the choice here fits nonetheless. Regardless, I love how the Abyss has been this GREAT menace that is always being kept at bay, almost as much as the Age of Dark.

EDIT: Whelp, I think I'm done with the swamp area. Didn't have much trouble with the Dragonslayer Armour and I took my time clearing up the swamp. The enemies that are really grinding my nuts to dust are the ringed knights with the lances and dragon greatshield variant. Fuck those guys.

So I finally had my first toe-to-toe with Darkeater Midir on the bridge after the Shared Grave bonfire. Not too bad. Got the bugger down after a few tries. Then I found out its lair, where the real fight is. Woah... In my defense, I lasted more than I expected.

I arrived to the Spear of the Church PvP boss. It's an interesting concept that was, imho, better executed, and with better fighting arenas with the Old Monk & Mirror Knight boss fights in Demon's and Dark Souls 2 respectively. Still, it should be fun, though I'm putting the game down for the day as I have lots of work to doooooooo!

Man, I'll be sad when it's over, but what a fucking ride, all the way since Demon's Souls back in 2009. <3

Though I'll still have The Old Hunters in Bloodborne...in NG+3...OH SHI------

So, I go through NG+ and NG++ specifically to get +2 rings for the DLC. And the DLC has +3 rings in NG.

Hoooolyy shit. I did it! And by I, I mean them: the host and his other summon. I hope I contributed something atleast. But I stayed alive until the very end! Darkeater more like shiteater amirite?

Well, we had the Abysswalker, now let there be....the Abysseater! Though I prefer Abyssdevourer.

In the end, it'll be dead, though.

I just got to the Ringed City Streets bonfire (NG+3) and felt I had to take a break. The difficulty has certainly gone up compared to the beginning of the DLC which was quite easy TBH. I had to fight several hard enemies, including two NPC invaders to get there. I finished off the second invader using the special jump attack of the Wolf Knight's Greatsword while only having a sliver of my health bar left because I was completely out of healing at that point.

I also found a creepy locust head helmet that I promptly put on and which I think works for scaring away the smaller locusts. I'm not quite sure on the effect though since I didn't experiment with it very much.

Woah...I gotta find that helmet now...

Aaaand after two more tries I smacked about the Spear of the Church boss. It was another player as the boss. Even the previous two weren't that tough, but the extra help they get from the painted guards does make this fight a bit of a hassle.

But then...w00t w00t....I reached and totally kicked Slave Knight Gael's ass in just a few tries! I actually was relatively close-ish to killing him even on my first attempt. Sure, he's no pushover, but he ain't no Champion Gundyr, Nameless King, Sister Friede nor Darkeater Midir.

All that is pending is for me to go and kill that fooging dragong and I am -done- with the Souls series...for now.

Epic times, my friends. Though it does feel a bit sad that it is over. But at least it ends on a, imo, high note.

Whew! Yep, much much more doable solo. I even made bazillion mistakes and was still able to take him down. What a majestic creature, though. Really got under my skin at the end of the third day I tried to beat him. So if you veterans want more challenge I suggest summoning for it (or better yet, getting summoned for it).

    It is done.

Darkeater Midir is dead. How poetically ironic that the last boss I kill is possibly the last -maybe only- descendant of the everlasting dragons. The history of the Dark Souls world began with the fall of the dragons, marking the beginning of the Age of Fire, which eventually gave way to the decay and ruin of the world that we've roamed and struggled in all of these years.

A bit of a bittersweet feeling, with no great fanfare, but only the hush after the storm, thus my adventures in the world of Dark Souls come to an end. For now.

One of the few game worlds that have so captured my imagination and enthusiasm like few (Yes, the original Thief series is one of those "few"). It all started with a little known game called Demon's Souls all the way in 2009, recommended, I believe, by either a good friend of mine, or one of my brothers who is also a gamer, I can't quite remember well whom it was now. I played every Souls game in order, DLC and all, and enjoyed every second of them. Yes, even the stumbling step that was Dark Sous 2 (because even a misstep from the Souls series is still a better game than most, imo), and though while I believe the first Dark Souls is still, overall, the best in the series, Dark Souls 3 and its DLCs were a fitting ending to the saga that Hidetaka and FROM began in 2009.

From this undead/unkindled/ashen one: thank you for the challenge and wonderful adventures.

    Happy wandering, fellow hollows.

    On a lighter note:

While intense, the fight against Darkeater Midir was actually....much easier than I expected if you concentrate on his head. Took me less tries to kill him than Gael. Yup. It's official, Sister Friede -was- the hardest boss for me in all Dark Souls 3.

Finally getting a chance to play this again, and have beaten the first boss with assistance from someone on my second attempt. To be honest, I found this boss much easier than the journey getting there -- the Dreg Heap ups the ante considerably, and I died many times trying to make my way around the poisonous swamp only to succumb to that damn butterfly. As all 3 incarnations (the 2 at the beginning as well as the Prince) have the same weakness, it was simply a matter of getting underneath or behind them and hacking away. While this is a pretty standard tactic for many of the bosses in the series, they usually have some form of counter-attack in their repertoire to keep you on your toes. His flying moveset seemed to be very similar to Sinh, and while you can use a similar tactic of running towards him as soon as he gets airborne, unlike Sinh, there is no tailwhip to worry about once you get in close.

Having just reached the next area I am again just blown away by how effectively FS are able to execute on their artistic vision. As a general rule, their ability to holistically design beautifully detailed environments and stunning vistas, dripping with atmosphere and populated with enemies that fit in with each specific theme, is second to none in my opinion (although CD Projekt and Crystal Dynamics are probably quite close).
