A new year, a new war - but not quite yet. Since I don't know yet which (if any) Saturdays in January I'm actually around, my suggestion is to get back in the invisible jet cockpit in early February. Don't shoot anyone in the meantime! ... unless you really, really want to.

The next Arma 3 coop session:

    Date: Sat, 2 February 2019
    Time: 3-6pm UK time

As always, I'll be online a bit before 3pm to set up the server and check who's on Steam.

Do need anything more than just the base game? Do I need to clear out my massive goat porn stash to make room for DLC?

Pretty sure we play with Apex dlc, could be wrong though

    Thanks for mentioning Apex, Piglick.

All the instructions are in the top post, Tony.

Can't make it today, have something going on that requires most of my attention.

Mostly fun first session of 2019. We tried out the new official game mode, Warlords, a Capture The Island Mode that lets players buy units and equipment which is then parachuted in. It’s probably not ideal for four players, but it was good to play a Bohemia Interactive game mode that doesn’t just kill the players and laugh at their corpses. I enjoyed the game, though towards the end it insisted on having us ping pong between two towns; when we’d conquered the one, the other would be conquered by the enemy and vice versa. I do think, though, that with a larger group you could plan better, leave some troops behind to defend and generally act more strategically.

Question concerning tomorrow's Arma session: Rainbow Six Siege is doing a free weekend, and I've heard good things about it (including from Lord Penney). Should we postpone the Arma game by one or two weeks and try out Siege instead? Would anyone be in for that? (I'm not entirely sure how it works with teams smaller than the maximum number.)

Yeah I'd be up for that. Seems it has co-op against bots as well, which might be ideal for a buncha noobs.

I assume you're talking about the Steam version https://store.steampowered.com/app/3...bow_Six_Siege/

    Max co-op players: 5

Okay, my suggestion is that we install the weekend trial and then decide tomorrow - if that works for everyone in terms of how much space they've got left on their drives. Would that be okay?

Yeah, I did a double-take as well. Those who want to do some CQC with us tomorrow, make sure to start the download early!

Alrighty, played a few quite fun rounds of Bomb Defusal with Thirith and Sulphur. Here's our only successful run.

Note:Sulphur was already down by this point in the mission, and the recording isn't picking up my mic.

I have the feeling our success can be more chalked up to blind luck and blind AI than any brilliant planning on our end.

Thanks to henke and Sulphur for the game!

I enjoyed what we played of Rainbow Six Siege: it sits in an interesting place in between SWAT 4 and more twitchy shooters, and I think there's definitely potential there for good teamplay, but at the same time the AI isn't very interesting to fight, which is amplified by the indoors environments. I could imagine PvP being pretty fun, but you'd have to have even teams. All in all, it's the kind of game I'd get if several other TTLGers were interested in playing it on a more regular basis, but I wouldn't be pushing for it.

On a different note, since we postponed Arma to check out Siege, here's my suggestion for more Arma goodness:

The next Arma 3 coop session:

    Date: Sat, 2 March 2019
    Time: 3-6pm UK time

Last Saturday's session was postponed since most people couldn't make it, but war is back on the schedule soon:

    Date: Sat, 16 March 2019
    Time: 3-6pm UK time

Boy, oh boy, the Arma sessions are under a bit of a curse this year so far... Yesterday's game had to be cancelled at relatively short notice because of a familial emergency. Everything's okay now, mind you, so if people are up for it I would suggest that we get back in the cockpit/troop transport and give the enemy heck in two weeks' time (fingers crossed that it'll actually work out okay this time):

The next Arma 3 coop session:

    Date: Sat, 30 March 2019
    Time: 3-6pm UK time
I'll send around PMs on Steam so everyone's in the loop.

Glad to hear the familial emergency was averted.

Me, Jesh and Malf ended up playing a few rounds of Worms WMD instead yesterday. Good stuff as always. Definitely looking forward to more Arma tho.

Fun session today - jason joined us (though without a headset, so we couldn't talk directly to him), so it was him, myself, henke and Malf. The first mission (unfortunately I didn't note down the mission names) was a meatgrinder pretending to be a defense mission; we didn't exactly help ourselves, but even if we had we wouldn't have stood much of a chance against the tank. Afterwards, though, we played a couple of small-scale attack missions and did well. Okay, there was this one mission where the rescue chopper never landed so Malf blew us all up, but I consider that a win as well. Sadly henke's PC or connection crashed so he dropped out about five minutes before we won the final mission, but a good, surprisingly non-lethal time was had by all.

I'll probably plan another session in two weeks' time, just before Easter, but I'll post something here beforehand and I'll send around a message on Steam to the gang.

To be fair, the first mission would have probably gone ok if I hadn't forgotten about how bad the weapon clipping can be in ArmA and hadn't immediately fired an RPG into the middle of our squad thinking it was going to go through the window.

I just realised that I haven't posted anything about the upcoming session, so here goes:

The next Arma 3 coop session:

    Date: Sat, 13 April 2019
    Time: 3-6pm UK time

As always, I'll be online a bit before 3pm to set up the server and check who's on Steam.
Please note that there have been a couple of updates to Arma and the modset, so make sure to download these before the session. I don't know yet whether we'll play any missions that need the CUP mod in particular, since this is always based on the number of people who actually show up, but it would be a shame to be restricted in our choice because people didn't download the updates.

I think I have everything installed and hooked up and ready to go, hopefully I can figure out how the mods and TS3 work. In any case I'm ready to frag some teammates.

I got everything re-installed on my new rig too. We ought to start a little early to confirm we have everything ready.

When you do the regular update (which I just did), do the mods one has installed update too or do you have to do them separately?

AFAIK if you're subscribed to them in the workshop, they update automagically because I periodically get notices that a mod has updated.
