How do you switch languages in the English/Russian version?

Is this a version published in the form of a file called "dce_v1.zip"? If this is the case, the following should be possible:

    a) If you use AngelLoader as an FM loader, look for a menu option to select the language in which to play the FM. A drop-down list should contain the languages detected, among which "English" and something like "Pyccno (Russian)" should be present. Select the one you want and start playing.

    b) If you use FMSel or NewDarkLoader, you have to make a little change to your DARKINST.CFG file located in your Thief 2 NewDark directory/folder. Open DARKINST.CFG with a text editor (such as Notepad; not a "word processor" like MS Office or Libre Office) and look for a line beginning with "language". Most likely, the line will read "language english"; to play in Russian in this case, change the line to "language russian+english". NewDark will then look for Russian content first, and if it does not find something there, use English content instead. This should not be a problem for other missions, for these often follow the same conventions about how to select language. And if anything goes wrong, just restore the original "language" line in DARKINST.CFG again.

If you find a different "language" line in your DARKINST.CFG, please tell us what this line says, and we might be able to help you with that as well.

    c) Should you still use ancient DarkLoader, you can try the method described in b) as well to play in Russian. Select "English" (!) in DarkLoader then to play in Russian. I cannot guarantee that to work, though, as DarkLoader is not only ancient and unsupported by now, but also does have support only for five selected languages, and Russian is not one of them.

Be warned that using DarkLoader is viewed as a severe act of heresy these days, and will be punished by the Hammerite Order in the form of pounding the heretic into a bloody pulp by a squadron of the most vicious Hammerites with their preferred all-purpose working tool. Thou hath been warned, o sinner!

I'm very late to this game but I'm glad I made it in the end. What an absolute pleasure to play. The re-use of architecture was brilliantly done and had me retracing steps endless times in case that odd little door/window/gate that was previously blocked was now open.

The storyline was also really something; clear without too much handholding and not predictable at all (I had it pegged half way through as a Romeo and Juliet plot). What made me smile were all the side stories and the nods to some of the golden great FMs. Clearly a huge amount of effort went into it.

Thank you Yandros and to all who contributed.

Just posted this review at thiefguild but I'm feeling sentimental this morning so I'll repost it here as well:

Randomly thought about this and wanted to write it down. This was THE fan mission that made me take fan missions more seriously. I started playing this right after the Covid lockdows started in 2020, when the cold nights (I live in the southern hemisphere) synched up with the snow on the screen. The soft piano music of the menu is carved in my brain. This was also the first time I tried ghosting / roleplaying a little bit more seriously (Bathory campaign was ultimately the first one I fully ghosted). I can absolutely see the "errors" in it that people have already pointed out. But it was the FM for a special moment in my life, as those times were for everyone, so it is the most sentimental for me. things became so different while I was staying late at night, crispy cold creeping in, absolute silent by the window that was right by the computer monitor, this FM on the screen. Autumn became winter and life changed. It is the FM I automatically think about when I think of "fan mission". The south entry, the sound of the steps in the snow, the bakery, the basement, it comes back to me, as it will probably do as long as I can remember what a fan mission is. That is a special thing.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Kubrick. I'm really glad to hear this left a very special impression on you. I still remember working on bits and pieces of it during various times in my life and I do think back on it rather fondly.

The black parade (so good!) got me back in my thief shoes recently and I've been catching up on some FMs.
I've been lurking here for many years silently, never posting.
And now I realise it's 2024 and I'm still playing thief and enjoying it more than any other games I've played in the past couple of years.
This is all thanks to looking glass of course but also the wonderful thief community.

I consider this campaign a must play, I completely agree with Casalor: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthre...=1#post2500362.
So clever how the story lines are put together and it all fits so well in the thief universe.

This campaing will definitely be remembered!
I cannot thank the authors enough, you are amazing.

Sorry to resurrect (pardon the pun) this thread but just in case there's any Thief fan mission lover out there who hasn't played this one - give it a go!

I must admit I really struggled with The Wailing Keep but battled through it on normal with the help of the relevant thread on here.

I just found out about this campaign, it it looks great for the fifteen or so minutes I can play it, but I invariably get random black screens coming out of a menu like the save page, or the map page. The game is still running, I just can't see anything but the health bars. I disabled all mods in Angelloader to no avail. I quick perusal of this thread showed me nothing. Has anybody else had this problem?

I played this FM about a month ago and it worked normally, the problem must be somewhere else, do you have the two DML files installed, correct?

If all else fails, backup your Thief 2 folder and do a clean install of Thief 2 + tfix and try to play the FM again, if it works, at least you know for sure its something on your previous install.
