Some indie games I'm hyped about

Öooo seems like the same kinda satisfyingly slick spatial puzzling we saw in Nama Takahashi's previous game ElecHead.

Dunno how interested I am in actually designing car parks, but the sprite animations in Car Park Capital are so damn gorgeous I might buy it just based on looks.

Have I posted about Turnip Mountain previously? I might've. Ya know this is my kinda thing.

New Dying Light game coming out in August. Looks closer to the style of the first game. Sign me up and take my money.

Noio (developer of the excellent Kingdom games) has a new game in the works.

Also, 11 years after the very good free version, Bernband is getting a full version!

I was gonna say: that looks familiar. But it's because it's the same dev as Grunn, one of my favourite games of last year.

More Jones! (I'm still amazed by Troy Baker's Harrison Ford).

I'm not as big a gaming trucker as henke, but I can still recognize the good stuff when it's in the pipeline.
Well I'm fascinated by the Icelandic landscape anyway.

The resurgence of WRPGs continues? Bioware and Obsidian maybe staffed by talentless skinwalkers now, but there's potentially good news for us.

Chris Avellone joins former Quantic Dreams writer at Republic Games to work on ambitious project inspired by "golden-age of RPGs". Studio funded by Korea's Krafton.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. Mass Effect-alike by Russia's, no... erm ummm Cyprus's Owlcat. Featuring traditionally attractive female characters in the key art is a massive GREEN FLAG, so they're off to a good start already.

Exodus: From a lot of the actually talented people who worked on Mass Effect trilogy (eg writer Drew Karpyshyn), so I'm cautiously optimistic. However the studio is owned by turbo racist company, Grand Wizards of the Coast (Eg recently erased the concept of half races from D&D. Employed a racist.) They're getting the side-eye until proven otherwise.

An indie horror game that I'm surprised hasn't gotten more attention. It's a mix of a survival horror/dungeon crawler with a PS1 aesthetic.

On another note, I first thought this was Bioshock 4 when the trailer first debuted before realizing its a new IP from the folks an inXile that looks promising.

Yeh Labyrinth of the Demon King is very cool, like a horror Kings Field, with extra weirdness.

    Xbox news:-
    • -Perfect Dark (Californian man-jaw) reboot has been cancelled. Its developer "AAAA" studio The Intiative has been closed. (I remember they poached talent from Neutered Dog and Soyny Santa Monica when they formed this studio, LMAO.)
    • -Rare's long in development hell MMO Everwild has been cancelled.
    • -The new MMO from TESO developer has been cancelled.
    • -Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 has had 50% off layoff of the entire studio.
    • -CoD studios Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games hit with layoffs.

A bunch of slop gets cancelled and hopefully AAA industry inches closer to imploding. Genuinely great stuff, burn it all down.

Hopefully someday they can lay off enough people to ensure that every woman's face is a perfect inverted triangle.

Yeah, whatever it means in concrete terms, it sounds bad. Even if they brought in a good person, doing so this late in the process is odd, to say the least.

I thought the Perfect Dark remake looked compelling, so that's disappointing.

And regarding Subnautica 2: I know it's just the nature of the business, but it still bothers me how IP works outside of literature and music. I know it's fruitless and naive, but it still bothers me.

So here's a new Beatles album with brand new original songs. John, Paul, George and Ringo had nothing to do with it, but we own the rights, the name, and we put a lot of money into it, so now it's officially a new Beatles album.

Subnautica was SO good I think the sequel had almost too much to live up to anyway.

    Latest Xbox rumours:-
    • Perfect Dark was always pretty much a "fake game". The Initiative + Crystal Dynamics spent the last 7 years making vertical slices over and over again. (So my theories: either A. perpetually incompetent studio management and/or B. studio management actively grifting off parent company MS.)
    • A 2nd party game that John Romero's studio was developing was cancelled by MS. Entire studio's staff had to be laid off as result.
    • MS has dropped out of publishing Kojima's horror game OD.
    • A Halo Studios' project is close to cancellation.
    • MS is trying to replace several roles with AI.

If you guys are looking forward to that Fable reboot, I'd be worried. Reportedly that's had a very troubled development history. The years of the Xbox division farting about by making slop and burning money (eg most of the Xbox One generation) is coming to close, the daddy MS' Eye of Sauron has them under scrunity.

Some of the recent gaming stories I find to be unreal in their Clown World levels. Eg reportedly recently closed by EA's Cliffhanger Games (ex-Monolith Productions developers who worked on Mordor series) spend 4 years in pre-production for a Black Panther game. Similarly the development of recently closed WB studio Monolith Productions were working on a Wonder Woman game for many years, having rebooted it 2 or 3 times. We keep getting stories like this, I so wouldn't be surprised if there's levels of grifting involved by senior staff in some of these AAA studios off clueless corporate executives.

Yup, it's why some of these long running AAA studios are often called skinsuits.

One theory I've seen floated about for Bioware still being open, despite having now THREE CONSECUTIVE FLOPS:- EA keep it around because the prestige it once had still looks good on paper. Gives the illusion that EA's line-up has some diversity outside of sports, shooters and The Sims.

I'm actually very hyped for the final form of EvaUnit02 that we're seeing emerge, a being that started off as a simple, walking cautionary tale of the results of macrodosing mtn dew and powdered redpill, but has been mutating into a somehow even more ridiculous self-parody of gnashed teeth and regurgitated hikikomori memetics funnelled straight into the mouth of a GG2.0 megaphone. Whatever could he (they? it?) look like? It's exciting to consider the possibilities. Maybe Alex Jones will run an interview for us when this EvaUnit02.0+1.0 is plopped into the sky like a newborn star child, its fearful eyes looking straight into the camera lens and proposing, with a telepathic voice like a Mickey Mouse alarm clock that won't shut off, that humanity's true cultural apogee was the time when we were able to slide the video game camera under a schoolgirl's skirt and whistle at the colour of her underwear.

I mean...that's pretty much what the Beach Boys have been doing since 1980 or whatever, and there are 0 living original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd but they still draw crowds when they tour for some reason.

And the last Hitchhiker's Guide book had nothing to do with Douglas Adams. I'll never understand the way people become obsessive fans of franchises or IP's or whatever instead of being fans of the humans who create things.
