Is it too much to hope that the 76 situation will make people stop banging on about Fallout 4 being the worst thing evar and instead appreciate it as the undeniably flawed but still fantastic game that it is?

... ahh who am I kidding it won't.

You can't really play the 'quality relative to' game without acknowledging that the entries in the series preceding FO4 were better at various different things, so no, that ain't gonna happen.

Better to just judge each game on its own pros and cons if that's the kind of perspective you want.

I strongly agree with this. It's better to do it that way as well.

The thing about Fallout/Skyrim games with me, is that I never play them for the story lines.
I have no idea what any of the sory's where about.
I just play them to wander around finding things and shooting things...
    Just a fantasy sandbox.

    So on that scale,
even though I thought FO4 was kind of boring as far as new or interesting content in and of itself,
its the most STABLE version of the base engine to wander around in a FO world.
And I can just add all the modded content I want myself.
Plus with the simcity aspect that makes it into a living self creating world.

Just for the stability of the engine over NV or 3, 4 is my preferred version of it to wander around in.

    So far we've had a:
*Game that's barely functional on launch
    *Also has serious design flaws
    *A nylon bag snafu
And now to top it off, the attempt to fix it resulting in a bug they revealed user's personal information.

At this point, more than anything, I pity Bethesda. This was supposed to be their flagpole release this year and it's been nothing but a disaster. They are going to need to pour their entire soul and all their blood, sweat and tears into Starfield to recover. Otherwise, we may not even get Elder Scrolls 6.

I don't get why Bethesda always seems to get a pass for launching games that are utterly broken while companies like Arkane and Obsidian get raked over the coals for it.

They completely missed the fact that a few companies got much more competent in creating open worlds over last few years, and they cared about upgrading their engines. As much as I start yawning at mere thought of playing any new AssCreed games, I can't deny that Ubisoft is miles ahead in graphics and technical department.

They're also better at coherent design than Bethesda seems to be. The Assassin's Creed games are shallow, but the individual parts - especially in their last three games - fit together. Everything I've heard about Fallout 76 suggests that it's a mess in terms of its gameplay, and not an interesting mess at that.

Maybe becasue ES/FO games are moddable/fixable.
They give you a big box of content, that still has some rough edges, and then the community builds hotrods with of it.

I dont know what Arkane got raked over the coals for, but those Dishonered games are unfortunately fenced off.
You either live with what they give you or tough isht.
(They won't let me remove screen splatter.)

And truth be told bethesdy DID get raked over the coals, and rightly so, for GFWL on FO and that unusable consolized UI when they first released Skyrim.
    And then peopel fixed it.

I dont know why bethesda would release an easy to recognize as unusable UI on their flagship property,
maybe if I were a conspiracy type I might thing they were pushing microsofts xbox controllers on me,
but it seems to be their shtick to put all the effort into a bunch of gameworld content and let the community put the polish on it as we see fit.

You might say its an annoying shtick, but nobody is making anything similar to it.
Those horrible far cry games cant hold a candle to what you can do in an open world bethesda game.

Bethesda caught with their pants down again, their Beth.net spam mailers are opt out only.

Reddit moderators are corporate stooges? Say ain't so.

-Unoptimised PC port of Dishonoured 2 that needed a few months of patching.
-Lying about Prey PS4 having Pro SKU console enhancements on the box at launch. They didn't come until a subsequent patch.
-Toxic employees who go on bigoted rants on social media.

Occam's Razor, bro. They're just lazy, they've been doing minimal PC ports for at least a decade now.

I'm also against Ubisoft's microtransactions, but this part, I'd definitely agree with. Heck, enjoyed AC: Origins all throughout.

To be fair it'll probably still be better than Metal Gear Survive, as low of a bar as that is.
Looking back at this comment is kind of hilarious and sad in hindsight, considering Metal Gear Survive at least functioned properly.

Yup, nothing is as incompetent as Bethesda.

By the way, just in case anyone’s interested. My brother Tommy is selling a 28 Inch DUB Baller. If anyone’s interested, feel free to PM me.

Well given Anthem, I think Bioware can now be counted as even more so. At least Fallout 76 has been getting better. Anthem just seems like a lost cause.

FYI, if you own the game on Beth.net, tie your Steam account to your Beth.net account before Apr 13th. You'll get the Steam version of Fallout 76 for free.

So has anyone played this recently?

I've heard rumblings that it's better as a single player game now, is that so? It's 13 bucks on PS4 and I'm tempted., but will I need any extra dlc?

It has gotten a lot better, and the dialog system actually puts 4's to shame, which is good because 4's system sucked. Like you get special options based on your stats and perks, like you know, a role playing game. It's still got issues but, honestly for 13 bucks, I'd say it's worth checking out. And no you won't, it's a "live service" game so all the major new content is funded by people who think it's a good idea to spend a shit ton of money on cosmetic items in a video game.

Yeah I've played a couple hours of it now and gameplaywise it seems fine, but the technical side is bringing the whole thing down for me. Playing on base PS4 it's quite laggy. IIRC Fallout 4 ran better than this. Also often when fighting enemies or interacting with objects there's a slight delay from my input to the thing happening. Hitting interact on a door and then there's a beat before it swings open, or when I deliver the killing shot to an enemy they often stand there for a moment before falling over. Dunno if this is hardware-related or if it's a network issue.

Also why the hell are there no BRIGHTNESS or GAMMA settings in this modern AAA videogame? I often can't see shit at night when it's bright outside my window.

Wait what? I never noticed that. If it is seriously lacking that on the consoles for whatever reason that is incredibly lame.

Strange, for a game it is a basic setting!

I played for a few hours too. And, yes, there are plenty of those bugs.

I played for a few hours too. And, yes, there are plenty of bugs like that out there. For example, if you look at the light through the window, you see the window immediately, and then the light.
