The save system was the single biggest issue for me, but I'm going to wait nevertheless. There's still a lot of things about the game that can easily be improved on.

It's not like I lack games to play meanwhile anyway, since I missed most of the games in 2018 due to a new job.

Interview with Warren Spector on Escapist:

    https://www.escapistmagazine.com/v2/...ystem-shock-3/

...Did he just really say that "...multiplayer FPSes, they're really just sports, they're not games anymore..."? (34:20)

It makes more sense in context. There always was a strong competitive aspect to them to begin with, but now you have teams and leagues and spectators and televised competitions and whatnot, so games like Overwatch really are very much like a sport now.

He's talking about games that you can beat or exhaust the content, so they are not games in that sense is what he means.

No, it doesn't (and it's not like I didn't listen to the whole thing), but that's kind of besides the point. It was a horrible thing to say and he should never have said it, he should well know better than to try and play the "game/not game" card after the far more justified hullabaloo over walking simulators.

Aren't you reading a bit too much into it? I'm pretty sure he doesn't really think that multiplayer FPS games aren't games and that wasn't what he meant. It's just colourful language, a bit of hyperbole, if you will.

It's not as if they are discussing what is or what isn't a game. They are talking about games that can be played "forever" and multiplayer FPS games are his example, as contrasted with immersive sims that have a comparatively "finite" amount of content.

Also, the hullabaloo over walking simulators was never justified. The reasons for it had more to do with culture and politics than with any concern for ontology.

I agree with Starker. Maybe Spector was being sloppy and overly dismissive of games he doesn't personally find appealing, but I don't think he meant it as a carefully considered, declarative statement. I also agree with Starker on the hullabaloo over walking simulators.

Also fully agreeing with starker here. It really wasn't a weird statement in context.

A 2.5GB update just went up today. Apparently it implements manual saves.

Any word about when the physical boxed game will be shipped? I've looked at the official forums and the Backerkit link in the email i got for pledging and I'm not seeing any. Is this delay typical of these kinds of campaigns?

I have been avoiding the coverage on this game with all the problems it has, but I want to play it once all the patches are in it (and I have my boxed edition).
I played an early build some time back, but was only put off by the jankyness of the controls. The quaint enemies were fine by me, though. Finding out recently about there not being any save function had me floored like everyone else.

I can't find any news about this update. Are you sure it's not the same one that I posted about last month?

Link to a news post from them that popped up around the same time:

It was definitely a different update to the month ago one. Maybe they updated something but didn't make mention of it.

That link points to a post that just mentions a survey and that they are still working on a second update (the 1st one came out on Dec 20th). The Kickstarter page doesn't list any updates after 12/20/18 either. I don't think there's been anything new added to the game since then.

I'm pretty sure my Steam install of this game hasn't updated since December.
