Galaer: no, it's made very clear in a readable that the fixing machine does not actually repair it, it just re-assembles it.

"I don't know what could happen if the core breaks down but I know for sure that my crystal will not work anymore, and fixing it with the repair machine will certainly give it it's original shape back but not restore its powers."

Oh yeah, there was readable like that. I guess, I was too annoyed to remember about it.

Quick question, I came across a readable that mentions someone getting lost in an ancient factory where "it" lives.

Despite my best efforts I could not find what's being referred to in the FM.

Am I missing something, or is it nothing?

Ancient factory is where you're teleported after damaging the core. Sadly there's not much inside going on AFAIK due to cells and time constraints. However you can see something inside from the belfry before the teleportation

@author: In case this mission gets updated at some point, please update M22BKInstrucs.STR as well, as the last page is truncated and some important clue is not visible to the players.
Add a third page containing this text:
page_3: "in the whole quarter looking for the bits and the risk to get some pieces stolen by the Scrappers. I really need to stop trying things, at least until the exhibition is over."

Level design is stunning, amazing, beautiful and very well thought. Amount of details - enormous. I love this kind of space-efficiency use, the same as in the "Zealot's Hollow" by Xarox or DrK's first "Rocksbourg" mission or "Dirty Money" and "Better Tomorrow", Pukey's "Morbid Curiosity", Rob's "Godbreaker's" both cities and few others. Those maps - and now "Whistling..." too - seem to be huge, yet they are clever packed at not very big space areas. There is always something interesting to see in every direction after taking a few steps forward :) Superb feeling. When maps are created like that, You forget about an objectives for a longer moment of time and just keep exploring area to search for loot, other items and to enjoy the beauty of the created map/level :) When that's happen, You know the map is GOOD :) Fabulous work.

Thanks that metal-clanks are actually very forgiving and AIs do not "panic" to much when it's happen, in the other hand, there is hudge amount of moss arrows to use on. Very good move to add Scrappers on street after core has been compromised. I knew where to seek disappeared piece immediately after I have seen them ;)

There is closed grate/portcullis in "hidden book place" - in guy's flat where dead frog lying near the candle and he is complaining in his notebook. How to open it? :/

And what's a reference for exploding cheese? Can I use it as a bait for smth? Maybe THE Mage is very hungry? ;D Or it's just bait itself to the player, who should search more to find Taffer Award? I don't get it :/ :(

And Taffer Award - why it is not a readable/note with secret message which mysteriously and enigmatically mention about position of another secret loot (unavailable earlier) which spawns when TA has been found? :/ TA itself is not "visible" in mission stats, but additional loot is ;)

    As for loot count:
There is 145 loot difference after loot spawns to increase it from 3181 to 3326, and counting 5 for each coin, we can count 29 new coins spawned. (why the heck is not 30? let it remain as Author's mysterious secret :) But to the point: Is it possible some of coins can be destroyed by the fire in the last explosion? or they always exists somewhere sprayed away around a half of a city? I found 28, and even after replying the fight many times and searching hard, never achieved full 29. Some of them are sometimes at very strange roof places, but still pickable :) Can some of them just fly out of the map and never be reachable? I can't find them all :) :P

I like The Mage is bleeding with dangerous fire drops after sword's hit :) It is better to avoid them or You will be hurt :) At first I thought that I can hit him by Gas Arrow, then take the body and drown him in the water/cistern-tower, but forgot that Mages has immunity to elemental things... :| That's how my extraordinary plan to achieve all coins in closed area was ruined :) Good thing he has not immune to Holy Arrows ;PP

This was about 6 hours, 40 min of serious sneaking and true adventure. Cheatty end-mission stats says 3h 24min, but fortunately I have my own timer ;) Found 3196 of 3326 loot, no blackjacks, and surprisingly 1 kill which did NOT fail no-kill objective on Expert :) I spared the Spider ;)

Is there other loot-spawn-events in the mission? What kind of loot I do not have in my pocket? Gold: 1866, Jewels: 300, Goods: 1030. I mean how much in each category.

I've made my way into the butcher's shop, because of the contract asking for pieces of meat. There are four or five pieces of meat lying around the shop, but I can't pick any of them up. Am I missing something?

Strange thing. They are just loot for me, and except for buying the contract, I don't remember I do anthing else special to grab them :/ Some script problem on Your side maybe? Try to reload whole game or... maybe You need TO READ the contract first?

Turns out the large red chunks of meat lying around the butcher's place aren't what's needed for the contract—it's the deer legs in the cold room that I need. I thought that was just for show because the glass was unbreakable and the door was unfrobbable. Randomly highlighted the lockbox when I went back just now. Funny thing though, the contract costs 150 but all the pieces of meat in there only add up to 125

Ahh LOL, I thought You just talk about THEM in post above ;) And indeed You wrote: "lying around", so definitely not what I meant to ;)

    Hah :D I didn't even notice it/that ;)

Finished this on Expert, 2:44 2566/3056 loot. I've got rather mixed feelings about much of the map.

Exploration: It was surprisingly small, but packed with places to go and explore, not merely for hidden loot but with scraps of story, some feeding into the main plot, and some separate. But I fell to my death so many times: the rooftops were full of narrow pipes and ledges, railings that were too small to mantle onto or jump off reliably. There was a ton of interesting climbing, and lots of good rope usage, but most of it was quite awkward and fiddly—thank goodness for quicksave! The interiors had a lot of variety and interest too, though they tended to be overly cramped.

Story: The briefing opened with a pretty clear statement of what was going on, but then confused me with its "sub-quarter of the Old Quarter" and the inventor wandering the woods, and the story of some group or other arming the beggars in the streets. So when the mission started, I wasn't really clear why I was doing things again. Perhaps that's on me. The whole break the core and repair it doesn't make sense, even though there's a readable there stating that repairing it won't actually make it work again, but okay. I was more bothered by the anticlimax: while breaking the core was dramatic and entertaining, repairing it was just putting it back in the box, then going back to the start. But I liked a lot of the smaller story fragments scattered around. The escaped "beast" from the museum (who I thought for the longest time was meant to be the "tongueless foolsie" with the incriminating info) was fun, but my favourite was the priest who'd barricaded himself inside the church to stop it being taken away from him. Great stuff.

Verdict: quite rough around the edges, but an entertaining mission for all that.

I've found 3 of the 4 parts-the one where you have to douse with the water arrow, the one you have to chase around on the rooftops, and the one in the scrappers forge
Where is the one I'm missing?

The one you're missing is somewhere behind the church.

My core memory is likewise totally fragmented, but isn't it somewhere wet near the portal machine?

    (Btw, I play on expert.)

I agree with you. This part of story really confused me as well. So the whole thing is that you need to break the core in the way that the damage will not be visible. Otherwise inventor will go to woods and bring new core. And with core broken into 4 parts this makes visible damage. That's why you are forced to gather all core parts and fuse it. Which fix only physical form, but not magical properties. All this is shortly mentioned in the briefing and force you to deduce the conditions of the sabotage. The remedy for that would be giving player a scroll (at the start of the mission) with full explanation about sabotage conditions.

I've looked there and can't find anything-I'm sure I'm probably walking right past it.

EDIT: I just found it! The part I was looking for was in the water pool in the machine room near where the core was

Great mission! The 3d aspect of it was maze like at times-but the author has great dromed skills!

    ciscokidd73: Look near Tudor's quarters.

Just finished this mission! I really loved the steampunk aesthetic, but it didn't feel too much like Thief 2, which is great. I also loved the choice of ambient sounds. It really does bring the final cutscene of Thief 1 to mind. Are there any other missions like this?

Didn't end this one, searched for nearly three hours every location twice and didn't find nor anything to damage the core of Lord Tudor's machine nor that valuable blueprint. What was even worse nice architecture but IMHO I get stuck too often in several narrow places and had to reload.

At least I played as a master thief and looted 2379/3056, more than enough on level hard. And received a Taffer Award.

zappen: Find the readable near the machine. It tells you what will damage the core.

Bigger hint: Activate all the switches and put something holy into the portal.

Just finished this incredible map, but not without a lot of help from the forum and Dromed, and I still do not think I found everything there is to discover in the map

One thing Mat99 reports that there is a second explosion that causes more loot to be spawned into the map, how do you trigger this explosion. So far I have found 3181/3181 but would like to known about the rest of this spawned loot.

Amm... You wrote "second explosion"... Maybe I did not express myself too clearly. You probably thought there was second portal explosion (?), but it's not and also not what I meant ;) THE EXPLOSION I was talking about is just the death of The Mage. When You kill him, he's dying by a few seconds with dropping coins. THIS is the event which spawns the coins - The Death of The Mage :)

But then, his corpse explodes and when four fireballs touched the ground they are affects to the coins he dropped. They are spread away/scattered on whole of the map, and the problem is - find them all. This event is pretty much random/accidental. It depends on the death position of The Mage (he can move/walk), and the current position of coins he dropped before THE EXPLOSION :)

So, there is no way to replicate two exactly the same situations. Coins are spreaded randomly. If so, then:

    1. does THIS last Mage's explosion could destroy some of coins, or they are always existing somewhere thrown away by the impact of the explosion?
    2. does THIS last Mage's explosion could thrown away some of coins out of the map/level or they are ALWAYS pickable and it's just a matter of finding them?

These were my questions, because 100% of loot may be achieved randomly :) and it may not be available for every game approach. At least with save AFTER The Mage's death :)

Does the compromising information objective rely on a script to complete? (NVScript and such don't work on my PC)

Because...I lowered the ladder near the crane and the door where I suspect this guy lives is unfrobbable. I don't know where else it could be.

Have you got the right door? The door you want is indeed unfrobbable, it almost doesn't look like a door, but you know your at the right door because there is a slit in the door like a letterbox.

Hint: To achieve the objective you need the secret code for accessing the compromising information.
Spoiler: Knock on the door 3 times

Ah, thanks. I needed to go a few steps further east and across the street to the next door.

I probably would have found it sooner if an obtuse mechanic like striking unfrobbable objects wasn't required, but at least the author had a really good story based reason for making Garrett do this, which almost/mostly justifies it.
