I know this is old but it's still good advice: don't quit your day job.

I'm on SSI now. Bipolar and OCD. YES, I DID wait until they were kicking me in the ass and I was on the verge of suicide.

Just go out and get a job man, any job. You will feel so much better about yourself. The unemployment rate in Denver is extremely low right now, 2.4%. You should be able to get a decent job even if you aren't that qualified, most companies are dying for people. It doesn't matter that it won't be your ideal job or career, at least you'll be productive and making money at the same time. It's really that simple.

I'm on SSI. I might have to get a job but I'm going to try to make it on SSI. I wouldn't be surprised if next year my Social Security checks were slashed in half because of Donald Diarrhea Trump. Some people might recognize me at coffee shops and I could get a part time job there.

The thing is, you're wrong. Jobs and money are not we we really want. This is the bullshit that's been ingrained in our heads by our culture. We want to cooperate, share, create stuff, and expand our knowledge. I feel a lot better about myself having been accepted for SSI and I will avoid getting a job unless I have to. All you guys have become addicted to your jobs. It's sad.

Being productive... don't even get me started.

LOL. Addicted to our jobs. If we didn't have our jobs you wouldn't have an SSI check. Where exactly do you think money comes from? I'm not ordinarily stingy about people who need a handout but it's pretty damned ungrateful of you to suggest we are addicted to our jobs and say that is sad when it is we job doers who support you. But then, I guess you are mentally addled, so we have to. If it were JUST you being lazy and wanting to pick buttercups and prance about like a wood nymph I would tell you to support yourself or starve. You are no better than we who have to work. Those who work ARE creating. They are creating the coffee you drink and the book you read and the meal you eat and the TV you watch and the internet you are on and the music you hear and the clothes on your back and the place that you stay. You wouldn't have shit if not for workers.

My brother in law had Huntingtons disease. My sister had to work two jobs and take care of him and the doctor bills waiting for years for SSI to help and he was almost in the coffin before it did. You need to learn some respect for workers. And you need to feel a little grateful for getting SSI and recall who is supporting your ass.

What people really want, you parasitic lotus-eating lout, is to survive. The development of human specialization (jobs), is exactly what allowed human culture to rise to the point where most people don't have to worry about dropping dead at the ripe old age of thirty from disease, predators, climate, and starvation. In any subsistence culture someone like you would have been cast out into the wilderness to die.

It's funny that you think this can't be done at a place of employment.

I'm seeing posts disappearing. Wonder what that's all about. We all have different ideas of what it is to have potential. I don't really think I've thrown mine away, I think I've done the best I can with it. Actually, we're all doomed, so now no one really has any potential to do anything anyway, besides live in the moment and enjoy it.

It gets pretty exhausting having to respond to posts like Tocky's and ZylonBane's. I could be doing more useful things like contributing to an attempt at a socialist revolution, with writing and civil disobedience, and such a revolution is the only thing that will see that when we go extinct, we don't just rot in the most disgusting careless way with the poor dying off first and the super-rich dying last. At least go out with a fight.

Dia, it's so ironic that you use the word reality, and I hear this all the time. Reality is what we as a collective have lost touch with. In fact, there is no fucking reality anymore. Few people are still human. We lost our chance to avoid total extinction about 20-30 years ago, after which the capitalist machine has just been growing and growing at an accelerated rate, we've been ravaging Earth of all it's resources with no acknowledgement of the reality that it will come at a cost to the natural world in the form of deferred climate change. We've been living on borrowed time and resources for 40 years, and we are ensuring ourselves a rapid plummet into the abyss. Earth can sustain no more than 1 billion humans long-term, yet there are 7.6 billion of us. Most of the growth in the past 40 years has been credit, money borrowed at the cost of future generations. Virtually all of the market "growth" in the last decade is all just a credit bubble. And 85% of the stock market's growth in the last decade has been attributed to stock buybacks, which is making money out of nothing. It seems this trend is going to continue until Earth's climate system has broken down so much that the planet is uninhabitable. And you guys preach to me about reality.

Tocky, you've become sour and hateful because you think everyone should have to suffer exactly the way you have. You express no interest in wanting the world to become a better place. You just want everyone to suffer the way you've suffered. (You better believe I've suffered enourmously in my life, just in different ways. Extreme alienation and mental exhaustion, people rejecting me as a person and wishing death upon me, people misunderstanding and judging me like you're doing right now, losing things I love, physical assault, I could go on.) You can't even admit that there's a fundamental problem with how our society operates, because you're so hateful toward people who won't work as hard as you TOWARD MAKING MONEY that you just hate the idea of humanity one day being emancipated from the woes of material sustenance and free to use their minds to expand knowledge and create things without having to worry as much about how they're going to get food. You won't allow that. You want everyone to be miserable and die in misery. That's the only impression I get from you. Tell me I'm wrong.

Don't you dare suggest that I don't have respect for workers. You're a hateful, presumptuous cunt. I respect and admire the hell out of everyone who busts their ass and fights for their own survival. When I lose respect for someone is when they're such a hateful little cunt that they hope humans will never have the freedom to fulfill whatever potential they have, whether the product is popular or not. There are plenty of hard working people who still want the world to change for the better. Imagine that. You think I don't know what work is? Cause I've told you guy countless times. I've washed dishes at fast-paced restaurants for five years because I had to to survive. My dad always says that when I was a kid, if I wanted something like a new laptop, I'd work my butt of doing house and yard work and building things and doing whatever else to get the money.

The only people worthy of respect in this world are the ones who love and want to make the world a better place (or for that matter, a world that isn't suicidal.) I don't care what your specialization is or if you even have one. ZylonBane, what world are you living in? A vast majority of people in the US are living paycheck-to-paycheck and don't have access to the fruits of capitalism in terms of heathcare and material well-being. These things have been robbed from humanity by the greedy scumbag parasites who worship money and think their selfishness makes them deserve to have everything at the cost of others. And Tocky, ZylonBane, Dia, you guys are endorsing this shit. You endorse billions of people dying in poverty so that a few people can have access to advanced medicine and technology. You're perfectly okay with it and you think I'm the problem. This shit is lies. You believe lies.

The people who create the stuff that advances our well-being, who research medicine and create technologies to help the human species, most of them are not apathetic scumbags and really do want to make a difference. But the parasites in charge, the CEOs and lobbyists, find a way to exploit the good work of scientists and engineers, fuck the whole thing up and rob these creations for themselves, because they apparently think they're worth that fucking much. I have friends are EMS, scientists, programmers, engineers, and do all kinds of good work. They don't hate me and want me to be miserable because I've chosen a different (and just as arduous) path in life. They enjoy themselves and want to see the system changed and the world un-fucked up. I also have a few acquaintances (no friends unfortunately) who try to work outside of the system, which is an essential role if we want to fix this broken world.

Read The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists for a source of good and passionate work by scientists who want to see a better world. Read the Warning to Humanity signed by 15,000 scientists who give a fuck about real human progress. (Sorry I don't have time to find the actual document, but it's somewhere.) I admire these people because they're strong enough to care.

Your minds have been manipulated by ideological propaganda that infects culture from the top down. You've bought into the lies that the greedy parasites on top have told you, including the lie that I am the parasite. I can't fucking believe anyone would believe that shit. I don't want to pick buttercups and prance about like a wood nymph. I want to work hard toward fixing this broken world and making it a place where everyone can achieve their potential, while also having the disciplined free education and freedom of information to appreciate the hard-fought history that would have given us such a world. You know who doesn't want us to be grateful for the hard work of hard workers? Greedy capitalist parasites, who want to destroy and restrict access to information with pay walls and schemes so that only the privileged know the truth and everyone else (like some of you, perhaps) has to work all their lives to give more money and material luxuries to the super-rich. They don't want you to enjoy life. They want you to live in misery and work for their benefit then die. I don't know what kind of jobs you guys have, and I make no assumptions about how involved you are in inadvertently funneling money to the top (like I've had to do for most of a decade). I don't care about that. I hope you enjoy your job and I hope you enjoy your life. What I care about is you're shitty attitude toward all the wrong people, as well as Dia and ZylonBane, calling me a parasite while these shitty disgusting rich fucks destroy the world. Maybe it's just too much for you to believe. I'm sorry, but it's the way it is apparently. Humanity has gone to complete shit because of the hate and fear of a few shitty people. You should be angry at them, not me.

Most people have been ideologically brainwashed into thinking "this is how the world works" and that we're on the right course. Stop believing what people with lots of money are telling you is true and for once think for yourself. We are destroying ourselves. We are fucked. My SSI money comes from the work of hard workers who I am grateful for, and please do not give me presumptuous shit about how I'm "not grateful" for them. But when someone gets sour and hateful and wants me to get in line or die because they assume I'm some rich asshole who has every luxury, which is not the case, I lose respect for that person. Stop judging people. Judgemental people are the ones who have caused the world to go south and innocent children to die starving. The world we have spawned does not work. We are destroying ourselves. We are doing so because apparently, a significant portion of the population has bought into the culture of hate.

ZylonBane and the the rest of you, don't give me shit about being lazy and if I lived in a self-sustenance community I'd have been cast out. That's total bullshit. I would have done a lot better and been a lot less depressed if I'd lived in an environment like that. I don't want all the technology and modern stuff that I utilize. I use it because it's there and it's the only way to enjoy life now. In case there are any misconceptions (and I get them constantly): I own three pairs of pants, three t-shirts, a sweater, a jacket, a pair of shoes, and a silver choker that I think looks good on me. I only have what I need, and I can fit my life in my car easily. I've got about $1500 right now and I'm begging my dad to buy bulk food for the family to share in case shit goes way south. My dad is kind of a selfish asshole, but he's learned a few things from me. I've also learned a few things from him.

Do whatever gives you joy in life. If you enjoy it, you should be doing it. Whether it's being a musician, making video games, researching technology, operating a bar, writing, or whatever. Do what you enjoy and if you don't enjoy anything... then I don't know what to tell you. It's sad that there are people born into this world that can't find joy in anything they do. If you have to work your butt of at a farm for you entire life to sustain yourself, why can't you enjoy being strong and proud of being able to make those huge sacrifices while also dreaming of a better, freer, more open society? If I were born into those conditions, I would take pleasure in being a loving person even if I have to suffer my entire life and get nothing in return.

I'm an antinatalist. That means I think having children is a bad moral decision. I have a bad impression toward anyone who thinks it's a good idea to throw someone else into this chaotic world of nonsense, as much as there is to enjoy in it. I believe in human life and goodness, I just think we're fucked. And I also think too many people are having babies just because they want someone else to suffer and die like they did because they hate everything. I may not have been antinatalist in more simple, primitive times...I'm not sure. But this world has turned rotten with hate and fear and I don't want anyone else having to endure this nightmare.

I've done the best I'm able to be the change I want to see. I've spent money I've saved on traveling to the other side of the country just to protest and get arrested. I've written essays that have helped people out in dark and shitty times and I continue to do so. I've done my best. I've also done a lot of shitty and selfish things without thinking, and I deeply regret them. I often find myself physically and mentally exhausted. I hope everyone else does their best too, and I hope everyone else tries to find the love and humanity in them that they used to have. I've accepted that we're doomed. I've accepted that we're going to destroy ourselves in about the stupidest way possible and take everything creative and inspiring in life with it. I've come to terms. We just can't cooperate. We don't understand each other and we're selfish, all of us. I'm no exception. We're too consumed by fear and hate. I've accepted death.

I have respect for human life and all life. I have respect for those who are still strong enough to love. I wish everyone would be willing to learn to have respect for life.

You are wrong. Spectacularly about the people here and quite a lot about people in general but also in your self delusion about what a hero you are. You have moments of being correct on certain things about society but you aren't starting any Bolshevik revolution. I would be happy if you would just take your medication. At least you aren't breeding.

One word of advice. Don't ever call someone a cunt to their face. You won't like the results.

Ah yes, the same old routine of DoTheGeek returning to ttlg, instantly managing to annoy everyone, and then coming to the conclusion that everyone else is the problem.

Let's do this again next year!

Oh I don't know, I rather liked the Saint Vitus meth dance. Perhaps he could stick around and actually learn some things about the people here instead of accusing others of being presumptuous.

I didn't say everyone else is the problem. I clearly stated that the greedy few are the problem. I'm sorry if I mislabeled you as a hateful cunt, but when you throw all these assumptions at me it seems like you are.

Good for you. If you actually do want to learn anything about me you can go here- https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148448 A lot of my life and a little of my philosophy on it is there. I think you will find I'm nothing like you think. I've been meaning to add another story. If you want to add your story feel free. Hopefully nothing too preachy but I'm not really one to be justly judgmental on that score.

It was about time, we were running a severe lack of neurotic fringe elements coming here to essay us to death with that bog-standard oxymoronic mix of attention whoring and solipsism.

Anyway, good thread title. I like self-fulfilling prophecy.

Okay Tocky, that was a sad story but it certainly corrected my impression of who you are. I'm really sad that Lara had to live a life like that. Did your parents mistreat her? Were they racist?
