    Identify that Thief art!

I'm planning to redo all the paintings for the Thief 2 Enhancement Pack, so I'm looking for some help in identifying them.

I've found a few already, here are the ones that still need to be identified:

Bugger, I just spent ages finding the source of the cathedral, only for it to be mentioned in the thread Digi linked to

Well, after spending a long time hunting for the ones I'd already found myself, I feel a bit stupid now.

*edits original post to remove known paintings*

Well, I'm really not sure if it's worth doing the Thief 2 art, since they're already non-txt-palette and 128x256, but I decided to find them all anyway, after reading that thread. Not sure if I'll do them.

EDIT: They are no longer missing.
Now there just remains to find those Thief 1 artworks in the first post.

    Still missing these two:

The second is supposed to be by the Limbourg Brothers, but I couldn't find it.

Wouldn't it be funny if, instead of finding the originals of the tacky pulp fantasy art, you just replaced them with other paintings?

    Original

    With the Enhancement Pack installed.

I hope they're not too dark.

That's actually a quite significant difference! The originals are all so similar in hue (common palette?) and the new ones look like you would expect a row of different artworks to look.

The only problem I'd have with that is that I'd expect there to be "fantasy" paintings. The Thief world contains sorcerers and strange beasts, after all. There should be more stylized paintings of the heroic battles against the undead hordes.

The only place where I could find it was here (near the bottom). Maybe someone can find a bigger version.

EDIT: Found a better version, it's in the collection of Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo, Netherlands

Nothing is stopping the FM authors from doing that, and I always like to see new art. But this effort is about improving the originals so all missions that use them can benefit. Besides, if you replace the originals with completely different art, then some artwork that was in context before might suddenly be out of context.

Since I've been playing with the Enhancement Pack installed since mid-2005 without problems, I'd say the answer is Yes.

The Enhancement Pack is something I've been working on over at The Editor's Guild. There was never an official release, but I plan to make one at some point in the not too distant future.

I thought there was some concern over the number of new palettes it introduces, which when combined with custom palettes from an FM can cause some missions to crash or not work properly?

I've started a thread on deviantart to see if any of the art geeks over there may have an idea.

So far no help, only a busybody. Maybe we'll solve this mystery though.

I have my fingers crossed that all of those paintings are by the same artist, and if we find one, we've found them all.

At Nightfall's request, I've tracked down the second, third, and fourth images as the work of Thief lead artist Mark Lizotte. The first one looks like it's probably his, too, but I haven't turned up a high-res scan to confirm that. Mark has kindly granted his permission to use these images for the purpose of replacing the low-res ones in a mod.
