System Shock 3 Teaser at Unity Keynote @ GDC 2019

I just saw Otherside's post on FB with this. It's ... well, I want to wish it well.
I got some deflating vibes, fanned by the Ultima release & the fact I'm playing Prey right now, which is incredible & wears SS's spirit on its sleeve, and the comparison doesn't do this project any favors.

But, that said, it's intriguing and cool enough.
We're fighting mutants on a space station and getting techy cyber upgrades.
And it's always nice to see SHODAN back in action.
I'm rooting for it, of course.

I guess the teaser is mainly meant to show off the environments and the graphical whiz bang achievable with Unity. Not bad, for what it is.

I hope we get a look at the game systems before long tho. Perhaps they'll show something else still this GDC?

Shodan looks kinda goofy tho. I kinda feel she was more intimidating non-animated.

The problem with SHODAN, is that her face is too thick and masculine. Although it is an A.I., this does not suit her "mad goddess" persona.

Originally, SHODAN's 'gender' was a bit ambiguous. I only started seeing SHODAN as a 'her' after the CD enhanced edition came out. Before that, some of the logs even referred to SHODAN as 'him'.

At first I thought I was looking at footage of an SS1 remake.

I had hoped they would have gotten rid of Unity for this one.

Eventually as in for SS3? Or eventually as in any time in the distant future for a distant sequel?

So far it looks like a Unity fan / student project.

I hope the game isn't so dark and shiny and Doom looking. Also, SHODAN looks like a floating mask. I'm getting UA vibes.

No game needs to exist. But narratively, yes, I think it kind of does.

They need to release a gameplay video already. Such a long time already in development and such little detail. Kinda reminds me of how the SS1 reboot was going in its original incarnation. Except with zero news or updates.

That's how game development works. You either produce bullshots or you don't show anything until it's near or in the final state, or else it's just a PR-disaster waiting to happen.

Let's hope that wasn't their best bullshot.

Until they show gameplay, you can never be sure. And even then.

Elizabeth Legros, Graphics Engineer on System Shock 3, described how we’re using key new features of the Unity engine to help us nail the atmosphere for the game. You can watch a recap of the Unity keynote here:

    Screenshots apparently, meh.

It looks like they're using chromatic aberration. Please let them not be.

Sure looks like it to me. I'm going to cut them a little slack though, because this video was done for a Unity keynote. They were there to show all the bling the engine is capable of.

I am mainly disappointed because it looks like a big departure from the artistic style of the early concept art, which was futuristic, modernist, and a bit different from what other games are doing. The teaser and screenshots make it look like a Doom 3/4 clone. It now has a very generic sci-fi horror look that's been done to death.

Still, it's gameplay that matters, so I'll remain optimistic.

    It better be cyberpunk.

I do hope they manage to strike a good balance between organic and tech 'feel', as well as SS2. The organic growth, monsters and what not, sound design etc, made at least me somewhat disgusted (as it should), and mixed it perfectly with the futuristic setting. The Unity engine to me feels somewhat 'static', if you know what i mean? I'm concerned they won't manage to create the atmosphere to go with such a title.

If it didn't have SHODAN and the name I would believe it's another SOMA game!
