As I can't seem to find a dedicated thread for this game i thought it deserves one, so here it is!
So who's playing Sekiro then? Is it as hard as i've heard?
I'll be picking up this game soon, what interests me the most about the game is the Stealth game play and that I loved the Souls game's. (yes I know, I like dying a lot in games )

I was surprised to see it sneak its way into the Steam store yesterday as well. While I had originally envisaged this as a day one purchase, I'm going to hold off for a little while as I'm currently invested in a couple of other hand at the moment. Hopefully by that time people will be posting about it in our Soul's forum.
I'd get it, but I just spent my monthly video game allotment on more RAM, so I'm stuck having to wait.

I started it and a few hours in I was close to just giving up on it. It's way harder than the Souls series. I had to resort to using savestates to make some progress without losing my mind, and now I'm slowly getting used to it, but geez... I might just be too old for this shit. I mean the world, the atmosphere, the combat, and all is pretty great, it's a well made game, but it might be too much for me. I'm gonna try getting as far in it as I can tough.
Anyway, this could go to the Souls section of the forum as the game inherited the core structure of the Souls games (bonfires, foggates, bosses, etc).
And to the Souls forum it goes!
This game is definitely good at underlining all the crutches built into the Souls games. I never bothered to learn to parry in any of them because there was no need to, you could just grind souls and materials and overlevel and enchant (or whatever it was called) your gear and use unbalanced builds and if all else fails summon others to do the dirty work for you, but there's none of that here really, you just have to get good at the game. At least the parrying is far more forgiving, thank the Buddha.
I'm enjoying the Ninja Scrollish bizarro-Sengoku Japan, but kinda wish there were more of the moody slow bits. Wheat fields in moonlight with two samurai quietly staring at each other, that sort of thing. The action is pretty good though, although I'm worried it'll get a bit samey if they don't introduce more elements to it, and too complicated to react fast enough if they do. Really having a hard time picking the right counter as it is, but so far I haven't felt any desire to give up. I haven't beaten any real bosses yet, though; just the generals and assorted weirdos.
So I've managed to get some game time on it, first impressions? Yeah I got to say I'm enjoying at the moment, the combats great! I've only managed to die twice (well technically 3 time's), I know this is normally the Kiss of death for me but I'm not finding it hard at the moment, year's of playing sneeksy games like Thief and Dishonoured are paying off! Still early day's yet though...

I got through the first boss fight yesterday after dying at least 20 or so times and probably giving everybody dragonrot in the process (the game arrived in the post for me on Monday this week).

I got the first boss (horse fella) on my first try and the second boss (butterfly lady) on my second try, but spent hours on a couple of the minibosses. Lone Shadow Longswordsman in particular; my world had two units of dragonrot when I started and seven by the time I actually killed him. Now I'm stuck at Genichiro Ashina and the fight just seems hopeless. You can usually make progress somewhere else when stuck in one fight, but I've mostly exhausted my options at this point so I'm getting a bit demoralized.
Still mostly enjoying the game though. If you take a moment from all the murdering to appreciate the scenery some of those places are really pleasant, the mountain temple area in particular. I still wish the game was a bit more conducive to feudal Japan sightseeing. Maybe Ghost of Tsushima has more of that since it's presumably an open world.
I thought I'd give the game a few days break as Horse Man was whipping my ass! must of died abot 30 times, so i want back to it last night and beat him second time round! The Fire Cracker's helped
So now the games opening up now and I'm starting to enjoy it more now!
[re: the prosthetic mentioned in above post]The firecrackers are really good. I think the description mentions beasts as particularly susceptible but it seems to interrupt most human bosses too. The stun effect has an internal cooldown, but there's at least one boss later on that you can basically stunlock with them (until your faerie points run out anyway).
I think I'm almost at the end, just the last boss of the sunken valley to go before the endgame is supposedly triggered, although I've also skipped the headless guys and the necromancer in the dungeon and want to get those once I have the terror resist upgrade for the metal hat prosthetic. There's been some incredibly frustrating roadblocks along the way so I'm a bit scared what the final area is going to be like.
I don't know if I'm going a bit overboard with the redactions, it looks a bit silly, but better safe than sorry I guess. The joy of discovery is a big part of the fun in these games, and I've spoiled way too much for myself because I keep looking up upcoming bosses.

I've tried killing those with like that and it didn't work. Maybe I'm missing something, but while I could take out one healthbar nicely, I then just ran out of spirit emblems.
I'm at a similar spot btw, I've triggered the endgame you're talking about. (Protip: make a backup of your save file once this happens) There's still a bunch of stuff left though, apparently.
Thanks for the tip, I beat the monkey (not an euphemism) and made a backup. I also looked up the endings to know which one I want to go for. It's a bit of a bummer to do that, but these games always have such obscure requirements for specific endings and I'm not a very enthusiastic New Game Plus-er so I want to be happy with the one I get. The backup should let me try the others if not though!
Just hoovering up the optional bosses now. I beat the Shichimen warriors but the headless are still giving me trouble. It's a bit annoying that so many bosses require an extremely limited consumable to even try beating. Also these fights really underline the awkward UI; the fights themselves aren't difficult but fiddling with the inventory to keep up divine confetti and anti-terror and healing yourself and avoiding the boss while you're juggling the items is just frustrating. It's kinda bad design in my opinion when the challenge comes from the interface and not the fight.
On somewhat related note, what's with all that articles demanding easy mode or assists in Sekiro? Every time I open my phone browser I get at least one article like that in recommended section.
People got used to Dark Souls and its handholding, I guess.
I also picked it up and am looking forward to playing it more over the weekend. I don't think I've seen a boss yet, but I've killed a few minibosses that didn't respawn: a huge guy that really wanted to hug me and a samurai in the middle of a crater. Definitely more difficult than Dark Souls so far, I'd say. It's very fluid and responsive and kind of twitchy, even. I think I liked the more deliberate and slow combat of Dark Souls more, but it may yet grow on me.
I think the biggest help for me was finding out you can just quickly tap the guard button to deflect well enough, instead of having to carefully time it like in DS. Takes a lot of the pressure off.
Second boss over and done with now (Lady Butterfly). This one I didn't die quite as many times to so either it was easier or I'm getting better at the game.

I've been trying to beat [major spoiler] (no, really) dad for a while now, and last night pretty much rage-quit and almost uninstalled the game. That's literally never happened before even as a kid, so the frustration is real. I think it's mostly that I still haven't really gotten out of the dodge mindset of the Souls games and the tracking and range and speed in this fight means he catches me every single time and staggers me to death. I think I'm going to find something else to play for a while
Got to meet the guy from prologue again. After a "few" attempts I managed to get him to his second phase where he takes off his armour and goes shirtless. I didn't survive very long after that and died by getting electrocuted. I'm taking a break for now and I might try progressing in a different area next time.
