Thief: The Musical Project (Music To Taff By)

    Taffers!
What do you groove to when breaking and entering? What is your soundtrack when you blackjack?
FM Authors! What tunes inspire you to keep DromEdding deep into the night?
    Post 'em here!

I've been listening to Thiefy type Metal, specifically from 1998/99 (and creating fake album covers too...I need to get out more).

Stealing From A Thief - Anthrax
Silent Are The Watchers - Dismember
Chaos And Mayhem - Ritual Carnage
Demon Of The Fall - Opeth
    Superbeast - Rob Zombie

Edit: 'Classics' may be pushing it a tad, TBH.....but they're soooo taffin' Thiefy!

I don't listen to anything outside of the game when I am playing. When Dromeding it is most often dark ambient music or a Thief soundtrack, but on occasion I want something more blood-pumping, and it is usually Opeth or Amon Amarth for those situations.

If I'm completely familiar with a game, I will often do a play-through while listening to music. I still do this with 'Doom', TBH.
I do have some modded OMs for Thief (The FUBAR install I calls it). Extra guards, sh*t loads of zombies and a maxed out arsenal (tweaked the fire arrow velocity for effect).
Yup, I do likes me some Swedish Metal.
    One for the Pagans......

Although the sound in Thief games definitively is important and creates beautiful ambience and atmosphere, I do like to listen to music, if I know the mission I am playing very well, or if it is not particularly challenging. If I listen to music, it is mostly music, that I have been listening to in the early 00s, when I have discovered Fanmissions. So mostly I am listening to some German medieval rock, or fantasy themed metal.

I don't like to listen to anything but the FM when I'm playing it. That's it there, for whatever reason.

When building, pretty diverse, but often stuff from the people here, like Fen, some Twitch steamers (wish they'd pay a bit more attention to what they're playing, tho, then talking to their streamers.. YAWN) and also, newest, the Thief podcast.

It's hard to focus on speaking when building, sometimes, though, and you just need some kind of sound.

For music.. everywhere. I focus better on work with non-lyrical music, typically, and with our last build we pretty much milked the shit out of the Gaelic and Viking music. Right now, I just can't bring myself to listen to it for a long while. Here are some examples, though.

When indecised, I always go back to TDP.. the sound is still amazing. What talented Taffers.

And then, there are late nights of building when you need a bit more. Something new is always appreciated.

If I'm playing the latest FM, fear not gentle author, you have my undivided attention. No sounds shall assail mine ears whilst I indulge in your wondrous creation, save those you have chosen for me to hear.
Thief has enormous replay value, for me. I have favourite FMs I replay on a regular basis. Benny's Dead was my first FM and I do like to play it when I'm feeling nostalgic for the old days of Ttlg. I do, however, supply my own soundtrack from time to time (whilst quaffing a nice glass of Pinot Noir). I do draw the line at full Cosplay though, when replaying missions.
Some nice music suggestions on here, I will have to check these out.
Edit: Prokofiev is possibly my favourite modern composer. I have been known to listen to 'The Crusaders in Pskov' while descending into the Maw!

It need not be music you listen to while playing, just music that would give you a Thief 'vibe', as it were.
I want to pick your musical brains, gosh darn it!

Ahh, Renaissance Hits! I remember when that one went to #1 back in the summer of... 1437? or was it '38?

Seriously though, that's a really nice piece, makes me feel like I'm in an old dusty tavern cradling a mug of mead in the corner, trying to stay unnoticed by the other patrons.

Nice to see some Josquin Desprez appreciation here

He is my favourite Renaissance composer, and worte some incredibly beautiful vocal works. "Mille Regretz" is, in my opinion, one of the top three music pieces, that humanity has ever produced. However, I did not know, that Desprez also wrote instrumental music, which is great for people, that are new to this type of music, as early instrumental music generally tends to be easier to listen to than early vocal music.

..this next one is dedicated to Marjorie, the milk maid, and it's from Tobias the Dung collector..he hopes you to see at the Midsummer Fayre at High Castle! Tobias also hopes your Mom does well at the upcoming Witch Trials.
All the Hits, all the time on East Coast MCDL....some Jacob Obrecht coming your way...

@Anfortas, Mille Regretz is quite a beautiful piece!
@Yandros...if you're ever passing through the Auld Sod..the mead's on me!

You know who else I like.....Rob Zombie..I don't really know why!

Edit: This video is from 1998. I always think of Thief when I listen to Rob Zombie.

I know something about opening windows and doors
I know how to move quietly to creep across creaky wooden floors
I know where to find precious things in all your cupboards and drawers

    Or in Garrett's case..
I know I shouldn't wear tap shoes whilst walking over noisy marble floors

Lady Rowena. One of my all time favourite authors. One of my all time favourite bands. Both transcend the ethereal, never forgotten and always in my thoughts!

I'm just tired of counting bodies, is this mausoleum tardy?
Let's just paint you a pretty face
Flies dip tongues into tear ducts in toothpicks fought unborn
Contusion is hungry, they still eat their young
    Proto-culture null and void

All veins in highway laps this breath collapsed again
    This hex was delivered spent
Orchestra influenza drawn and quartered pets
It dwells and grows in veins

This is the pocket-sized edition, rapid sleep through benediction
Let's just paint you a pretty face
Museums mark their bodies down, all the tenants found
All the distance in their prefix
Contusion is hungry, they still eat their young
    Proto-culture null and void

All veins in highway laps this breath collapsed again
    This hex was delivered spent
Orchestra influenza drawn and quartered pets
It dwells and grows in veins

    Fever bliss into central nervousness
Bitten on the entrance, I was bitten on the entrance
    Fever bliss into central nervousness
Bitten on the entrance, I was bitten on the entrance
Bitten on the entrance, I was bitten on the entrance
    Bitten on the entrance, bitten

I like At the Drive In, but I have The Mars Volta's entire discography memorized.

When I'm Dromedding I usually prefer listening to something with talking. Podcasts, lectures on youtube, creepy stories, audiobooks, etc. I sometimes listen to music as well, but not all the time. There is always something else playing in my right monitor though!
