    TMA20AC Mission Troubling Transitions (Mar 24, 2020)

This thread is for any discussion or questions related to the mission Troubling Transitions by Psych0sis.
You can download the mission HERE or HERE.
    The contest thread is HERE.

Please give clues instead of outright solutions when helping others and use the spoiler tag when you do this.

Remember that this mission, and by extension every mission made for the contest, is for THIEF 2. As such, do not load it with Thief 1/GOLD! It is highly recommended you do not use the Enhancement Pack and/or HD texture packs to play this mission. It is also recommended you uncheck all optional features T2Fix comes with if you update to the latest version of the full executable.

Thanks for the entry, of course i played this first since you are on of us podcast taffers

pros: thank you for not forcing me to lockpick every chest, actually i think every chest and case is unlocked?! great thing and that for most doors there is multidoor key thats great, the writables, conversations and funny references are great and there so much fanservice it's like a little wonderland for thief fans, as I said I love it that the whole mission is based around the transition from hammerites to mechs taking over and you've done that great justice and best of all you did it with immersion, by telling things visually and not simply with texts (the windows, the models, that hammerite in west tower, the conv. between the guard and the handyman great....

also as said I can see your improvements in you architecture and (keeping in mind that you were limited because of the contest rules) I like it that every room has little details, shelfs are not empty, theres books, scrolls, (alot of cheese lying around, you like cheese i suppose), the conversation between the dude and the guard that tells me (ah this is dewinder manor right here) and many little things done right, I can see that there was someone behind it who knows whats good design and tried to keep the annoying gameplay stuff small

the story is as basic as it gets but your premise of the mission is a different one so it cool The intro and voice acting was amazing considering you hired great and well known actors

Cons: only issue I have, the lower levels of the cathedral are too maze like for my personal taste (t1 but not in a good way, it feels unnatural and is disorientating but not for fun) to me and they are too often too grey that i lost a bit of interest after a while which is sad because there are so many details everywhere but now I was at a point where I had a tough time to motivate myself after achieving all goals but still having a whole building to explore.

buuut I see great improvement and a city/cathedral mission is a different thing than your last entry and you've done well....great job buddy and I'm really looking forward to your next mission.

I chose this randomly as my first contest mission. This mission will not take any awards, but it's a solid 7/10 city exploration entry and welcomed to the fan missions database. My only gripe is that there's too many doors, but on positive side most of them are not locked.

    My first choice also!
Playing this in shifts, as it were. No isolation for me. Loving it so far, though. The lighting is bang on point, an under appreciated DromEd skill, as far as I'm concerned. Bravo Psy!

I second that. And as usual I missed around 1400 loot. The cathedral is huge and the abundance of doors is not so bad since it helped me when I got lost.

echoing all the praise posted so far!
I'm playing on hard and need 4 trinkets; I have the chisel, head, and painting but I don't know where to find the last one.
    hints, please?

I believe the number of trinkets differs depending on the difficulty. On Hard: there's a Ancient War Hammer on the lowest level of the warehouse, adjacent to the cathedral.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was missing.
Finished in ~1hr, ~1300 short on loot. As I was playing I kept thinking I was missing secrets but there aren't any. I may go back and see if there are more upper story routes I didn't find

Overall there are 6 trinkets, so you still missed 2! :P

I'm not a fan of the whole "secret found!" shenanigans, so I didn't put the function in. Though I will say, there are about 2 or so areas that could be considered such!

Very solid mission, Psych0sis! Unfortunately, I had to turn off weather effects (they were decreasing frame rate) but it's only because my computer is quite old.

I liked references to Jeremy and Murderer's Thumb, as well the way you paraphrased fan missions' titles (e.g. "Continuous Downpour").

However, you get minus points for making Dewdrop unfrobbable. Since downwinder is gone, someone has to represent Dewdrop's rights.

Made it through the mission on expert in just about an hour. I enjoyed it very much! Since this was my first mission played from the Anniversary Contest I'm off to a good start and looking forward to whats coming next.

I liked the verticality and multiple ways to get to different areas a lot. Snow is always a plus, I was just a bit sad that the snow wasn't any deeper so that the crunchy footstep noise could have been used.

If I had to critizise something it would be that in spite of my praise for the multiple ways to get to places it sometimes got confusing. Especially in the cathedral. The map isn't enormous so I quickly found my way back but I sometimes would have wished it to be a tiny bit more streamlined.

Looking forward for more missions from you!

Well, you're missing one item which is a book, perhaps its in the library

The other trinket is in a full on secret, but its nearby the library

a-ha! I had found the first one, but reloaded and forgot to pick it back up.
the second was tricky, since I had inspected the first few fireplaces closely for switches, since the grates look so much like they should open!

I love missions like this that feel warm and welcoming to the player, and remind us to just to have fun. The small, snowy city was cozy, lively and fun to explore, with good humor & references throughout.

Very nice work! You captured that classic Thief FM feel, while also giving it fresh style.

I ended up doing this as my first "proper" mission after I inadvertently backed myself into a corner in The Builder's Paradise because of a foolish lack of saving. I think you've significantly improved from your last outing, and a lot of the architectural choices, particularly in the cathedral, are really interesting. My only complaint is that a few of the buildings (parts of the cathedral especially) are laid out such that they're totally interconnected but without distinguishing features at their exits to differ which way you're going.

Downwinder (AKA the 8-bit Artist Formerly Known As Thief_4) hasn't logged on since late August. Since he was previously an active and ever-present staple of the forums, and hasn't returned even for this anniversary contest, the assumption is that nothing will bring him back... whatever the cause of his absence
