    Thief Gold ESRGAN Texture Pack
    Thief Gold upscaled textures using ESRGAN method with different models. Most of the textures correctly tiled by hand after the upscaling. To use with TFix installed with NewDark.

    Sometimes gamma is a bit of (maybe because of the light), some textures may be slightly different color because of the process used. I could fix it in time if you would provide me with texture names. For example https://imgsli.com/MzgyMg/6/7
    Also, all of the lighted windows and mech indicators are provided with illumination texture (65 textures total, it was not an easy task to create them by hand) and corresponding mtl file. You could see glow on the screenshots.

    Quick fix/patch to 1.1 version of the pack

    Included dedithered books and upscaled textures from EP1.
    Overwite content of the archive into USERMODS folder.

    Also delete .mtl files in the USERMODS/res/skyhw folder - this will resolve problem with Sky Detail: Low settings.

    I'll create a single 1.1 archive in a few days after tests.

    Also, for some unknown reason TFix include mod with textures from Thief 2. They are not better in quality, but differ a lot from the originals. I didn't used them in my work and they are overwrited by my mod.

    P.S. I didn't upscale textures from the EP1, because there was only one texture in Thief1 folder. BUT: maybe this effect https://imgsli.com/MzgyMg/6/7 is caused because of objects from EP1? I'll try to check it. If I am right, I will compare EP1 textures one by one with vanilla for objects and will upscale only not so different version if they are better.

    P.P.S. Thief Gold ESRGAN resized intro [1080p]. You cannot use it ingame because of the NewDark limitations, it just a sample of technology

    If Gecko will release his upscale version, we could compare textures and choose those where quality is better.

    P.S. Yep, it was EP1 difference. I will release EP fix later

    i saw entire video on you tube last night and i feel its improves details and darken/makes color seem a bit richer

    i guess before i saw video i was expecting more,like his past lava/ice updates,massively noticeable improvements

    Fanstastic work Akven! Congrats to the release I think i know how much work this is to do all that stuff. Great results!

    I did a quick check and i really like most of your new texture versions!
    There are only a few where i like my version a bit more.

    EP1 is a mess...... A lot of things only for Thief 2 plus many items changed very strangely.
    For example Armiore.bin - just a retexture of the same model with completely different textures. Why? What for???
    Need to crosscheck every model and its set of textures. 400 models in pack. Headache...

    I chose 318 textures form EP1, which I will upscale. For some textures I will leave vanilla upscaled variant, not EP version. I don't like total Cabinet retexture, but I will upscale it cause vanilla textures are too small for upscaler.
    Also I will dedither books.crf textures for my pack

    I'm not sure but i thought nobody is using EP1 anymore because of EP2...?

    EP1 comes with TFix by default.

    And personally I don't like EP2 much in terms of changes.

    There is nothing broken.

    Image Type Priorities
    ---------------------

    Aside from the new image formats, the priority (which type can override another) has been slightly adjusted.
    The priority order is as follows, where the first has the highest override priority:

    .DDS
    .PNG
    .TGA
    .BMP
    .PCX
    .GIF
    .CEL

    Because of that i've converted all my textures to .DDS. It's the best format for Thief textures.

    Broken. I checked it myself.
    My upscaled water textures are in png format.
    T2water mod had textures in dds format.

    Game loads dds textures and after that inserts into T2water dds animation my png textures. And it becomes a very strange and ugly animation loop.
    It certainly not the dds > png prioritize

    You have to add the following lines to your .mtl files in your water folder:

    force_ani_settings 1
    ani_frames 20

    20 is the number of frames used for the water animation. Set the correct number you need...

    There is no sky folder anywhere with dds textures which can be deleted.
    Training mission skybox is also broken.

    You put another NSky skybox in fam/skyhw, that's the culprit. It's not there in vanilla T1/TG. Even in T2, NSky is in fam/sky. The question is: Why did you do this


    Did you test the texture pack?

    Not working. Animation is looping between old png textures, not dds.

    dds is always the first texture to load. T1/TG water has 13+1 frames. T2 water has 19+1, that's why.

    I tried about five-six times
    Even with

    ani_frames 20
    or
    ani_frames 14

    it loads png textures for some reason. So water is half-png half-dds sequence. No matter what the mtl settings. So its clearly easier just to move upscaled water into separate addon.

    Also, I do not see anything strange with the sky in the training mission. Nsky is in Thief Gold\PATCHES\fam.crf\skyhw\ folder in vanilla TFix.
    I'll try to compare completely vanilla Thief and modded Thief with screenshots.

    Just delete sky and skyhw folders from Thief Gold\USERMODS\fam\. It should fix all the problems (even if I don't see any).

    Why there was patches folder in the first place if in is not in the .ini?

    The "patches" folder is referenced in install.cfg in the TFix environment, as it is intended to directly patch the original resources.

    I nearly completed v1.1 fix for EP textures. The question is - what the prioritize of the patches folder? There is indeed two version of skies in main res/fam.crf and in patches/fam.crf - but nothing from where is loading ingame because of the installed t2skies. Always loaded dynamic skies from T2.
    I can just separate skies from main pack like vanilla water addon - it would be easier.

    Addition:
    1. The sky is broken with Sky Detail: High settings and with T2skies not installed.
    2. With Sky Detail: Low sky looks normal without T2skies.

    There are 2 versions of NSky:
    -one in \RES\fam.crf\skyhw\
    -one in \PATCHES\fam.crf\skyhw\

    I suppose PATCHES version is the right one, and I upscaled RES version.
    I will replace it or maybe upload both versions

    And yes, the sky is broken with Sky Detail: Low if .mtl files are present. If I delete .mtl files - everything is normal.

    Do we even need .mtl files for skies and maybe water folders???

    So quick fix - just delete .mtl files from sky and skyhw

    wow the patches one is omg amazing,i think cardia uses it in some of his fan missions its like real

    the res version is terrible compared

    As much as I appreciate the work, I don´t like it that the upscaling process seems to have desaturated a lot of colours.
    The carpets now look like if they have been washed with too muich bleach.
    It can already be seen in the linked samples:
