A month or so on, what's the TTLG consensus on this game?

I think I'm only about 60% through, but it's great. Beautiful open world, deep combat, and it's ridiculously huge. Sometimes it feels a little too sprawling, though; I might enjoy it more if there was less open world between the amazingly designed traditional levels scattered throughout. I've gone back and forth a few times between being absolutely engrossed and feeling a little bored. I'm also a little cool on the lore. I don't think George R.R. Martin came up with a better story than what Miyazaki is capable of on his own, and it's littered with GRRMisms that grate a bit. So overall it's a wonderful game but probably not my favourite FromSoft game.

I was a tad worried about Martin's influence. His strengths are in characterization rather than worldbuilding, but From games need the latter more. I'm glad to hear there are still "traditional" Soulsy sections at all; open-world games risk becoming homogeneous when every part of the map poses the same challenges.

Some day in the distant future I will join y'all in the bigger thread.

Which books are in the spirit on Elden ring? I believe George RR Martin's are not. Elden ring is much more magical.

Berserk to be quite honest, just like all their other games. Reminds me of old chivalric romances too - Orlando Furioso, Parzival and the Faerie Queene. And Gene Wolfe's Wizard Knight!
