congratulations on your first release, downloading and will play it today!
Hey everyone,
My first FM for Thief 2, Compulsory Egress, has been released!
This mission takes place in a tangled, grimy town with an opulent City Hall.
It has straightforward objectives, but lots of open-ended exploration.
I wouldn't call it a 'rooftops' mission, but there are many climbing and jumping opportunities if you want them!
It mainly uses stock Thief 1/2 assets, some of which are faithfully modified, with a healthy serve of custom objects and textures in places.
For this reason, I seriously recommend NOT using any graphics mods. Many of them turn the visuals into a jumbled mess.
This FM was made using NewDark 1.26, and is only compatible with FMSel, AngelLoader, or NewDarkLoader.
It is available in English, French (by Azaran), German (by zappen), and Russian (by Soldi).

BRIEFING:
SCREENSHOTS:“It’s not often I get such a good tip from idle gossip.
For weeks I heard rumours that the run-down southern town of Navenvolk
was awash with fears of an imminent crisis.
I didn’t pay them much attention, until the Tribune confirmed that an
evacuation had been announced — not an easy choice, considering they built
a new City Hall there just a few months ago, replete with garish décor… and the regional treasury.
Heh, what a move that was; meant as some initiative to ‘revitalise the area’.
Since then, the borough has been beset by a flood of trendy nobility,
trying to gobble up cheap urban real estate in a newly fashionable area.
It’s become a rat’s nest of rich and poor.
I overheard a family at The Docks moaning that they were
forced out of their hole in the wall for a few stacks of silver.
Given its civic importance, the councilmen of Navenvolk have enlisted a
mercenary force to defend the town once they clear out,
under the command of the well-respected Captain Ricardo.
I hear he’s quite the hero. Has the mind of a real… strategist.
Well, I guess that means they’re expecting a siege. I’ll have to find out more myself;
the details have not been forthcoming.
I’d better get going. Navenvolk is at least two days travel,
and I can’t be the only rogue planning to make a killing
from a town full of abandoned property…”

All my testers provided invaluable advice, bug-fixes and suggestions. Without these, the mission would lack a significant amount of polish.
To do their efforts justice, I’ve catalogued every alteration I made between the original beta version and the final release in the CHANGELOG.txt,
with individual attribution to testers who made the suggestion.
For further thanks, credits, or miscellaneous notes and tips, the readme files should have most of the answers you're looking for! I am indebted to many people, and have stood on the shoulders of some immense giants to make this FM.

congratulations on your first release, downloading and will play it today!
Congrats on the release, buddy! I'm off to play it for the fifth time.
Congratulations on your first T2 FM. Hats off to you - always good to see new authors. Off to play right now - thank you
Well build mission, a lot of exploration and an interesting story. Thanks for releasing, hope to see more from you
Congratulations. This is an amazing FM, impressive in its own right and even more so for being a first release. The city area is great but the town hall is a work of art.
Great result for the first mission.
But... boring. Really, in two days I won't be able to recall if I've played this mission. Everything is good (texturing could be better, much better) but nothing is remarkable.
Sorry, just telling about how I feel.
Congratulations on the release! This is a good one with high replayability. There is a lot to discover in the city area - amazing for a first one.
Good job, gonna play it again.
Wow, great mission I really loved the interiors. I ended up pretty short on loot so I'll have to go back through and see where I missed stuff (and admire the interior work again ). Very impressive for a first release.
downloading now, grats on release, will update post when mission complete or i need help ,what ever comes first
great mission, was able to complete it with no help, some advice for newer player, look carefully for switch's in area's you might think are dead ends
7263 loot out of 10k+
a ton to explore ,very impressive mission, and the city is pretty open so you can go many directions
i even found one easter egg,a counter you can climb over to review a hand drawn painting lol, also found keeper area by using ? key,and loved the mini escape right to the start so mission ends perfectly
DirkBogan you are a great fan mission maker,i hope you continue to make mission's,thank you so much for this gem of a mission
also the screen shots above dont give this mission justice, the mission looks amazing, and the amount of levels to the city is amazing, gone are the days of a flat city :P
and dirkbogan is dewdrop anywhere in mission?

From the style of mission, what I've seen of your posts, and what I see in this thread, I'm confident I'll really like this.
But I gotta say, I love the changelog.txt. Seriously, that's great stuff. I can't believe you catalogued all those changes in such a neat and organized fashion, and it's really nice to give your testers such specific, tangible credit.
Congratulations on the release!
Mirror.
Awesome! Congrats on first release, this looks like a fun one
I was really impressed. I love the city stacked on city with plenty of alternate paths. I took my time and I still would like more! Love the nooks and crannies. Lots of pay off for explorers such as I.
This is your first mission? Extraordinary effort!
This is incredible. Your first mission? I remain unconvinced.
"On the Provenance and Genus of the Purple Edible" - Absolute GOLD, my friend. Only 15 minutes in and I am in love.
I beat it with 8330 loot in over 3 hours. Really interesting mission. I liked drawing of the map. I like architecture, especially first area. It's very interesting that mission doesn't end at City Hall. The only thing that I didn't like is using sounds from Maw in City Hall. That was really weird choice.
What a great mission!
I'm playing on Expert and done everything, but checking on anything I've missed.
I can't find keys for the Greengocer's door or the Baker's delivery door lock. (I think I may have been in the Greengocer's house but simply haven't found a key for that door). Thanks.
I never found the Greengrocer's key either, but the Baker's Delivery key is in back of shop (lean into oven & look up).
Yes, thanks for a really fine mission esp for a first release. Interesting & innovative design with the layout/texturing/etc was lots of fun exploring.
Congrats on releasing your first mission! Looking forward to playing it.
Greengrocer's key: I don't think it's supposed to be found, as you can reach both sides of the door via other means.
What I'm wondering about:
There's a rampart high up in the center 'square' of town, where two guards are patrolling. Is there a way to get up there?
The Grand Hall House (the one with the twisty vertical space): There's a locked door there that requires a key that I haven't found yet. It's the same house with the note in the fireplace where a servant asks another servant 'to put the key back'. Is this key the answer, and if so, where is it?
These answers are for Expert.
If you mean the square where you start the mission, yes - there's a wooden beam projecting into the square. Rope arrow up to it, then climb the vine on the wall.
For the missing key, at the top of that house there is a room at the top of a ladder with two mattresses on the floor. The key to the cellar is on the floor next to one of them.
Thank you all for the feedback so far! Glad to hear many people have enjoyed it.
For those who are impressed that this FM is my first, I have had many advantages: firstly, most authors didn't have the luxury of NewDark or Bullet DromEd when they made their first FM. Secondly, I have the benefit of twenty years worth of advice, guides and fantastic FMs to learn from and explore. I owe a lot to many people.
Besides, there are many debut FMs which are far better than mine! To name a few:
Gaëtane: L'arsene
Morrgan: Saints of Redmound
Lady Rowena: Rowena's Curse
Schlock: Shadow Play
StinkyKitty: Valley of The Burned/Widow's Ire
pukey brunster: Morbid Curiosity
Melan: Bad Debts
skacky: Shadow Politics
DrK: Night In Rocksbourg 1
Squadarofl/Squadafroin: Watery Grave
ObservingEye: Precarious Business
marbleman: Cracks In The Glass
Mark Smith/Asylum: Hidden Agenda
Richard Cull/RiCh: A Smuggler's Request
David Riegel (Sledge): Cult of The Resurrection
vfig: Making A Profit
Phantom: Burning Bedlam
McTaffer: Heart And Soul
Shadowspawn: Lorgan's Web
vegetables: Lord Robert's Painting
Proliffia: Defamation of Character
Doaal: Mystery Man
Korthak: Deadly Cure
There are definitely more I am forgetting, or haven't played. If you haven't played any of these, I seriously recommend you do!
Congrats on your first release! An awesome work!
I probably haven't laughed so hard at a readable in a good while. Well done!
Looking forward to more from you, sir.
