    [Release] Thief 2 ESRGAN Texture Pack

    Thief 2 ESRGAN Texture Pack 1.1
    Thief 2 upscaled textures using ESRGAN method with different models.
    It's was easier to create Thief 2 textures because I managed to avoid most of my Thief Gold mod mistakes. Also, I automated tiling for textures so it was much easier (created a script which added additional overlapped border pixels to original images before upscaling. ESRGAN uses this pixels to save tiling matches. And after upscaling script deletes this additional pixels).
    To use with TFix mod installed with NewDark engine improvements. Textures are intended to be used standalone with TFix and before the Enhancement Pack 2 for those textures, that weren't updated by EP2.
    Textures were upscaled using manga109 and mymanga109 models plus my own two models trained exactly for Thief. Plus dedither model. So I created 8 different versions of every texture (dithered 4 models + dedithered 4 models), from which I choose the most best looking.
    Also I created by hand illumination maps for all the lighted windows and glasses.

    EP1 addon pack was redone. Now it's universal and works on both Thief Gold and Thief 2. And there are two versions of the pack: authentical with some of the textures replaced with upscaled vanilla, and non-authentical with just upscaled EP1 textures.

    Addon with upscaled NSKY texture for those who don't use T2skies mod from TFix (I don't know why you would want such a downgrade) or using Sky Detail: Low settings. Sky is very strange in Thief, so I wouldn't recommend to play Thief without T2sky mod. And I will probably will not fix any issues with vanilla skies. Overwrite into USERMODS.

    I could start upscaling T2X if anyone playing it. Just not the movies, not now. They are already 30fps, so there is only point in creating 1080p versions.
    Does anyone knows, Thief 3 supports upscaled textures?

    Hey Akven, thank you so much for investing your time and energy into improving the thief experience for all of us taffers, much appreciated.

    Bentraxx's/Gecko's HD Mod is amazing too but I have been wanting to play with an upgraded vanilla look for a long time now.

    One question - is there any way to inject the high quality trees/foliage like the ones in the hd mod while using your upscaled textures ? The vanilla trees are just hideous.

    Judging from the texture pack included with the Sneaky Patch (https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-colle...s-texture-pack), I think it does. Although there's a difference in how it treats textures:

    Even though this is a ‘high resolution texture pack’, I have still tried to make it as efficient as possible, so in some instances the textures may still be viewed as too low res., however this is most of the time caused by the point I made above, that some textures are stretched across large areas. You just can’t make every texture 1024x1024 or 2048x2048 although you sometimes wish you could; it would seriously affect frame rates.
    The quality of the PC port is something to consider, too. Both Deus Ex: IW and Thief 3 ports are pretty mediocre, so who knows how the engine would behave with upscaled textures. But Sneaky Patch has evolved quite a bit since 2014, so maybe that isn't a problem anymore. All in all, an upscaled pack would be appreciated, since we only have John P.'s personal take on vanilla textures and this recent edit of his textures (which I personally love, including the Reshade settings): https://www.moddb.com/mods/gritty-city

    Yes, missed one texture) Will create small cumulative fix after polishing some textures for Thief Gold

    As for Thief 3 - old Unreal Engine supports maximum 2048x2048 textures, however I do not know yet how to inject/pack them into game. And I suggest they are in DDS format. But I will create "attempt" topic in Thief 3 subforum in time as I have some other questions. For example - which maximum resolution supported for loading screens, GUI, splash screens and so on. I even do not know how to extract original textures, but I think it's some easy tool.

    You can get the original textures from the editor pack - and yes, they are .dds files.

    T3 Editors' Guild is pretty quiet these days. I'll try to answer your questions if no actual mappers show up to do so.

    Thanks. I like that these esrgan texture packs are focused at being authentic instead of re-texturing like the hd mod. Btw, are you still working on T2X

    I also found little transparency bug in one of the textures, will create a cumulative fix update later.

    T2X is done for about 1/3, need more time.
