If you need a laugh, check out the Ubisoft troll just posted in the forum over there. Pretty funny.

I don't mind the low-res look *that* much, but I'd like to know why I it's taxing my video card. I've got a 5700 XT and I'm not even getting a steady 60 fps.

I'll live through it, though I have to admit I find the notion of someone taking a look at the picture below and saying "yeah, this looks fine" difficult to understand.

a vanilla 20+ years old SS2 model that suddenly looks pretty ok for comparison.

A less dark screenshot might be better.

I've played through the demo, and I must say it is an improvement over the last one in some areas but still disappointing overall. The art direction in my opinion is much better this time around, as the last one was too clean and bright. I agree that while personally I enjoyed the pixelated textures and retro feel (I actually think the way the model looks in Voodoo's screenshot is pretty nice), it should be done through a means of a options setting instead of being the default. That's probably asking too much of Nightdive at this point though . Cyberspace however... Now that is freaking terrible. What were they even thinking there?

The gameplay is still as monotonous as ever. Feels like your typical "baby's first unreal4 FPS". Slow, sluggish, too many glitches and it continues straying further and further away from that familiar SS1 feel. I understand it's a "remake", so there are some liberties to change up the formula and try something new, but this is just a bland reimagining at it's most competent. Five years for this is just, wow.

They were thinking "What if Geometry Wars and Descent had a baby? Let's do THAT!"

Again, I just wanna state for the record: I love how it looks, both cyberspace and the overall pixelly aesthetic. And the overall tone of negativity towards it ITT makes me feel like this game was made for me, specifically, so keep it up please.

Sounds like you have some psychological issues beyond the scope of this forum.

Hehe, good to hear (read) that it isn't just me. I wasn't sure about the visual style of the game since they decided to turn development upside down, and go for the retro look of the original game. The colours don't work for me, the pixelation is bad too, and the cyberspace was quite hard to navigate. The game is also too dark in general, made me wish I had a light augmentation...

To my shame, I still pre-ordered it though. Why? Because, even though it's flawed, it's still ten times better than about everything which is being released these days. Because it's oldschool, and it doesn't hold the player's hand. And that's a lot more worth to me than the messed up visuals. Which suck though, especially when you consider that it was done due to the backer's whining about not going for a strict remake route. That's one of the issues with crowdfunding: You need to listen to people who have no idea, because they're not game developers, but rather people who quickdraw their wallets.

Anyway, I think some of the criticism isn't quite justified. It's still a pretty decent game, from what I could see from the demo. Again, ten times better than all of the million $ budget, proefssionally produced AAA mishmash they produce these days.

I enjoyed the demo, giving it a shiny 7/10, but it is indeed far too dark to be a believable Medical level. Doesn't help that some of the light switches are missing too.

This could potentially diminish the atmosphere that the power outage in Beta Quadrant brings in Research Level 2, and a good chunk of darkness in Maintenance Level 3.
Players that never played the original game are going to go crazy trying to find the headlamp or infrared. I found it amusing there is no brightness or gamma adjustment in settings.

I'm just patiently awaiting my backerkit, as I've been for the last six years or so.

FYI, The playable demo has been updated. Still can't see some of the text when using the inventory system though.

Just finished playing the new Next Fest beta demo, and I really enjoyed it. Movement, combat, and cyberspace feel a lot better.

There's new demo footage on YouTube as of last night, and it definitely looks better.

I'm seriously impressed by the new demo. Feels MUCH more refined and improved in about every detail than the first demo.

Still a few niggles, like the melee combat which feels a bit odd, the obvious shortcoming of the level design, which feels a bit ancient, or the interface which feels a bit all over the place. But, it's also a LOT of fun. Good thing I pre-ordered, will surely be the next game I'll play through when it'll be released late March.

Needs a better indicator when using melee weapons. Can't tell if I've hit enemies or have been hit by them.

True, that's one of the things I would also criticize (and which was already very apparent in the first demo). The ranged combat is great though.

I came here to say precisely that. I had lots of trouble in the latest demo with figuring out whether I was hitting enemies in melee or not.

Maybe they should add a visual "swish" to your wrench, like they did for the serv-bots when they swing at you.

No I'm just kidding god what were they even thinking with that.

Agreed. This is much better. I enjoyed the new demo as well. Hopefully the melee combat is improved before release.
Getting used to the new voice acting, will be an interesting new take on the 2072 Citadel Incident. I will still aim to purchase on day one, did not preorder.
