Dang son, you are using that new lease on life right. Shit I like that. Can you buy it on Amazon? I'll find out. That was good. Had a sort of southern rock thing going on and a sort of Rivals Sons/Blackberry Smoke thing.

And WTF? They made you cut your hair? It was one thing to crack you like a lobster but making you cut your hair was just cruel.

    Found it on Amazon. Cool.

Since my son was born last May, I've been neglecting music barring some noodling with modular stuff just for fun.
I've recently made myself spend at least one hour per day writing, even if the result is utter horse shit (it usually is) just to keep myself limber in terms of production, otherwise I find I lose the edge over my music tech and it ends up being too much of a technical hurdle to just work.

Anyway, tonight I managed to actually cobble together something I didn't hate in around 3h: https://soundcloud.com/iamimmune/distant

It's just a motif with some progression built around it, nothing mind-blowing, but I thought I'd share anyway.
Dark and moody like pretty much everything I write.

Your music makes me wish I could play guitar properly.
    Love the videos too.

hey I checked out your spotify stuff. It good, very much kinda radiohead vibe going on, at least to my ear. I really like the intro of "Tree" up until after the line "We used to be here". You need to take that intro and keep the sound for a whole song, its really good.

Thanks Pig, well I'm gradually working on more stuff so there may be more of that kind of vibe eventually!

Tocky - did you find the whole album? It's out now too. Links everywhere - my site is www.kydkal.com, they're all there.

Most of it *doesn't* have the southern rock thing going on, more of a King's X/Brother Cane/Dadrock vibe. But my first real band was a southern rock/Black Crowes kind of thing so I guess it's still in my DNA. I cut my hair before even going in because a kid who'd had the artificial implant before me warned me they shaved EVERYTHING. And they did - a little Puero Ricaan woman told me all about the love of Cheesus while shaving my pubs at 5:30am the morning of. It had pretty much grown back out by the time I got the real donor heart 9 months later and for some reason didn't shave anything for that (probably because they weren't implanting a machine that time).

Just for variety, here's the other end of the album for context.

LOL. I recognize that stack of bills in The Other Half. I will find the album now. Thanks. I also recognize and resonate with quite a bit of the messages in your songs. I was raised on southern rock so it's like coming home for me. Not that I can't appreciate the other. Lot's of things strike a chord. Some fragments make me wonder. Aside from the Funky Town song reference did you ever actually go to Funky Town? I know you lived in Arkansas for a long while so did you go to the antique store near Toad Suck (I think) called Funky Town? I mean, when you hear the name you have to go right? More importantly you have to take your girl so you can say you have. You must miss Arkansas at times. Lots of beautiful country from Petit Jean to Magazine. Anyway, I dig your sound and I'm off to Amazon now.

This version of Fine Print is kickass BTW.

I've absolutely been to Funky Town in Toadsuck! My band played at Toadsuck Daze three years running. I guess I don't notice the southern rock thing as much in this stuff because I've been listening to so much other music that's polar opposite - Muse, Rapsody, Lorde. Just goes to show that once it's in your DNA there's not much you can do. It's all purposely dated sounding because I can't/don't want to compete with modern pop/rock stuff. It's found it's audience with Brother Cane, Jude Cole, Edwin McCain, Collective Soul, and Big Wreck/Thornley fans, so I'm mostly happy. I'm about 1/3 of the way into a project with a bass player and we're doing really on-the-nose Jellyfish/Beatles tunes, so that's fun.

Hey I really like that Kolya, its like a soundtrack piece for some early 80's film about the struggle in lower class UK.

It's got a New Wave feel to it and I like that synth sound that comes in periodically.

I made a song recently and started using my SoundCloud again for less formal releases than putting stuff on all the streaming platforms. Follow if you are on it and interested!

Anyway I'll not spam everything here but this one is kind of Lovecraft-inspired so I thought some of you might be interested in that aspect:

thats pretty cool but was the tempo variation a deliberate choice?

Thanks! You mean in the last section? Yes I deliberately let it ebb and flow there and didn't go and quantise everything or make it fit to a grid, I thought it sounded kind of dreamier that way. Slightly organised chaos. I sort of like those moments in recordings that aren't perfect and it's very very easy when you make everything yourself in the box to perfect everything. Do you think it gets too messy though?

Nah it works in that lo-fi kinda dreamy texture as you said. I am guilty of being lazy and just snapping everything to the grid.

I didn't write this, but I did contribute the synths and drums:

Nice. That is crying out for words though. Something about moving on from a relationship and trying to be decent about it but finding it hard. The usual I guess.

My synthwave EP will be dropping soon. Here's a couple singles from it if you're so inclined.

We'll be dropping the full 6 track EP in a week or so. If you enjoyed these, watch out for it. Should be available on whatever streaming service you prefer.

Like the sound of those! Nice evocative synth sounds. Good luck with the EP release!

McTaffer that sounds nice, and it sort of works with the spacey vibe but I wanted the drums to be a bit more present in the mix, they sounded a bit underpowered compared to the delayed acoustic guitar which really dominates everything.

I did something a bit more acoustic than of late, using guitar, ukelele and banjo (including tapping the banjo percussively): https://soundcloud.com/davidmassey/lullaby

Did a little recording in the broom closet a few years ago. Gave it up when I realized that mastering took ten times as long (at least) as actually recording and that occasional sleep was helpful to living. Had some fun, though.

    "Only" (NIN cover): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/only-nine-inch-nails-cover

"I Will Possess Your Heart" (Death Cab cover): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/i-will-...your-heart-ben

"On Your Wings" (Iron & Wine cover): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/on-your...ron-wine-cover

    "Wonderwall" (Oasis cover): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/wonderwall-oasis

"Number Of The Beast" (Iron Maiden cover): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/the-num...the-beast-iron

"Can You Dig It?" (tongue-in-cheek tribute to "The Warriors" theme): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/can-you-dig-it-tribute-to

"We Float" (PJ Harvey cover): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/we-float-pj-harvey-cover

"From The Beginning" (Emerson, Lake & Palmer cover): https://soundcloud.com/tjxsj/from-th...e-palmer-cover

Oh, and NO autotune. Yeah, you can tell in a few places, but I'd rather own the times I got it right than not own any of it.
