    Almost a year has passed since the last public release. During this time, a huge number of changes have been made. Here are the main ones:
    + implemented a simple audio player for streaming sound based on OpenAL
    + added image view mode (all supported texture formats)
    + added lighting to object view mode
    + redesigned interface work, it now loads by parts and works much faster
    + implemented a filter to search for files in the menu with simple text input
    + made a help screen that opens with the F1 key
    + added font outline for text in viewport to improve readability
    + added support for system mouse pointers over interface elements
    + transparency and alpha test are implemented in the object view mode
    + skybox is displayed for missions with Low Sky support
    + added loading screen for menus and missions
    + rendering reworked to stream geometric data
    + implemented octree construction, which is currently used only to optimize geometry clipping outside the frame
    + redesigned thread system
    + large-scale internal refactoring, introduced a system for managing the current state of the application
    + redesigned logging system
    + many cosmetic improvements and fixes
    Happy Thief 2 Anniversary, everyone! The latest Dark Engine game is now of legal age!
    I am waiting for your comments and suggestions regarding the work of the new version of the program!

    P. S. There was a problem with downloading the program archive from this foum in the Chrome browser. For those who want to download, right-click on the link and select "Save link as ..." and select "Save" in the warning message that appears. I will try to solve this problem with Google...

    + reworked loading of BIN models. Now you can view models with broken tree structure.
    + slightly redesigned help screens.
    + added the ability to open the directory of the currently viewed object in the explorer with the O hotkey.
    + the message type is now displayed in the log.
    This version is much better able to open static models, since it now opens even those that have damaged internal hierarchy of subobject relationships.

    Plus, a very useful function has been added: with the O key you can open a directory in which the viewed model will be selected. If the model is in the archive, a directory with the archive will open.

    + compilation of builds is now performed with the maximum level of compiler optimization, this should slightly increase the speed
    + added generation of mip-levels for Legacy Hardware mode
    + added shadow support for spotlights
    + redesigned command system. Now when loading multiple commands, only the result of the last one selected by the user is executed
    + fixed the menu loading. It is now loaded in parallel with the object
    This is last Thief 2: The Metal Age 21st Anniversary build. All following builds will be in a different file.

    Well, I'm afraid then it's not the website that matters, but the program itself. There are some kind of paid digital signatures of programs that allow antiviruses to automatically trust applications. But, in my opinion, there is something unfair in this in relation to simple programs that have not acquired a digital signature.

    Anyway, you can add Dark Engine Viewer to the "white list" of your antivirus right now and forget about such problems with it. I wrote about this in the readme, my program has a different purpose .

    Greetings, taffers!

    Dark Fate is celebrating its 20th anniversary today! Perhaps you know this site as the largest Russian-language resource about the game Thief. In the old days, I made a significant contribution to its formation and development, so today's anniversary is of particular importance for me. This is why I dedicated today's release of Dark Engine Viewer to the 20th anniversary of Dark Fate. This release includes an update that allows skeletal character animations to be played. I would especially like to thank the taffers PinkDot and HardKern, without whom it would be much more difficult for me to cope with this functionality!

    There was a lot of work and, unfortunately, I did not have time to do much of what was planned for the anniversary. So, I planned to show animations also in missions and end up with data streaming and a new rendering mode that works, no less, but ~ 40 times faster ! Perhaps during this anniversary month, updating the build will catch up with the viewer to a more "planned" state . Now it sometimes happens that the program can close without warning, restarting it usually helps, but, just in case, be prepared. The work is in progress.

    In the meantime, I invite everyone to finally see, maybe firsthand, how the guard behaves with the animation of the frog and many other interesting animations!

    thank you, Force, this is excellent work! and to Dark Fate, с днем рождения!

    i have a small issue: when i am browsing the folders with my custom models, its not loading any of the textures for the models, despite them being right there in the txt and txt16 subfolders.

    similarly, when i view my missions, none of the textures or models are being loaded, only the geometry and lightmaps. i suppose this is because i keep all my working folders outwith the thief install directories; but i cant find anywhere in Dark Engine Viewer to configure search paths for stock models and textures.

    It is rather strange, if textures for models are in the same directory or in subdirectories txt or txt16, they should be successfully searched by the program. Сan I ask you to start the program, open a couple of models which do not render textures, close the program and send me a debug.log file at toforce@ya.ru?

    In general, yes, I put off loading user settings from the сfg file for a long time, because my program scales the user interface as it usually happens in games, and does not stretch the work area when the window is resized as it usually happens in any editors. But now I thought, why just not configure the window size using the settings file, but configure everything else? At least until there is support for stretching the work area without scaling elements. Therefore, I will try to add configuration in one of the next builds.

    Hey! The time has come for another small update of the Dark Engine Viewer. As always, there are not many changes, but this time I caught such an unpleasant thing as emotional burnout, so the release of this update was delayed by a couple of weeks from the planned date... I will rehabilitate myself. And to you - success, take care of yourself!

    gamophyte, thank you for your support words! Yes, burnout is really nasty thing. Worst of all, there is no way to get away from it. Only a long rest and a complete change of activities.

    thanks, Force! your viewer has been extremely helpful to me for exploring thief 2 models and motions, and especially for diving into making my own models and meshes and motions!

    and i am pleased to say my earlier issue with textures not loading from txt/ or txt16/ subdirectories is now gone. this version is working beautifully.
