    TMA20AC Mission — Into The Odd (Mar 24, 2020)

This thread is for any discussion or questions related to the mission Into The Odd by Croissantine & Die Fugger.
You can download the mission HERE or HERE.
    The contest thread is HERE.

IMPORTANT: The authors urge you to read the readme file for important play information! It is called FMInfo-EN.txt or FMInfo-FR.txt depending on your language.

IMPORTANT: The authors also ask that you check under Options > Audio and set your Audio Channels to the max of 48, and enable Hardware Acceleration, or you may encounter audio problems with this mission!

Please give clues instead of outright solutions when helping others and use the spoiler tag when you do this.

Remember that this mission, and by extension every mission made for the contest, is for THIEF 2. As such, do not load it with Thief 1/GOLD! It is highly recommended you do not use the Enhancement Pack and/or HD texture packs to play this mission. It is also recommended you uncheck all optional features T2Fix comes with if you update to the latest version of the full executable.

IMPORTANT: This mission has been updated to v1.1 to fix a game-breaking bug. Please delete the original version and install v1.1 before playing.

A French translation can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16UJ...-jIPoTERaSpK_y
Thanks to Apiai for the translation!

This mission is an incredible journey.

Perhaps the only downside is that some parts are briefly frustrating... and yet, these frustrations eventually pay off in immensely satisfying ways, once the whole tapestry unfurls. If like me, you found certain things annoying to begin with, I seriously insist that you persevere. If you give up on this FM, you will miss out on one of the most creative, memorable, and atmospheric missions I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Don't deprive yourself of a fantastic adventure. I couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards.

Well, I'd love to, but I have no idea how to get out of the damn sewers.

Which part of the sewers exactly? If that's the first part after getting the rope arrows, a new path opened in the room with the cannibals after flipping the switch.

I found the rope arrows and pressed a button, but the path to the cannibals is still closed.

You can't get to the cannibals, search this room a little more. You're not paying attention, it's plain as day.

Is it possible to get back to the underground area after you've left? It seems like the way out collapses behind you, and the open pipe you use to get there is being welded shut by some dude after you get out. Also, are the lockpicks somewhere around that area? The objective hints that the hideout of the guy who has them is in the "underground aqueducts" which sounds like it could be around that area but I'm not sure.

You'll find out the answer to both those questions. Keep playing, and don't worry, you haven't missed those lockpicks yet. Make sure you re-examine your map, and try to recall locations that you couldn't access from the beginning.

What a wonderful mission. Very challenging, but also extremely rewarding.

I made the big, half-visible monster disappear by luring him into the poisonous pool. Apparently I had not killed him completely because he was still moaning, but at least I could explore the area freely. Is is the legitimate way of getting rid of him?

I really liked the design of the first palace (can't remember its name, you get there straight after you get out of the undeground area), the beams of sunlight on the balconies were truly impressive! Was it inspired by Prince of Persia?

In the sewers, I have found the mangled key and the room that you get to after using it, where you first see a zombie. I can't see find how to open locked door, however I may have come across a bug as I managed to frob the lever through locked door leading to underground aqueducts but pretty sure I'm wasn't meant to go that way.

You're right, you're not supposed to open that door by frobbing the lever from the other side. It's an engine exploit. You're supposed to enter the alcove with the blasting fire, climb the ladder, and proceed forward from there.

Thanks marbleman, pity as it looks like it could have been beneficial going that way.

Beneficial, perhaps, but also game-breaking. Expect a hotfix soon.

This is one of the most unbelievable experiences (and I mean experiences as a human being) I have ever had. The sanctuary part made me almost crazy because of all nasty surprises, the claustrophobic sewers totally opposed to sunlight and singing birds. The feeling when I heard them again after being down in the dark (and searching for way out) for so long can... I am still shaking, and that is why I am satisfied with only around 3600 loot I acquired!

Where's the blasting fire? I've found the mangled key, rope arrows and a gas arrow but seen no fire yet.

I'm not sure where you are, but it's hard to see the blasting fire until you're right in front of it. If you can hear an intermittent thunderous sound, like a sustained explosion that cuts off suddenly, try to head for that. The way into this room is through a large sewer hatch above the spinning gear pit at the start of the sewers.

The authors have created a fix for a game-breaking bug. Be sure you download the file named "TMA20AC_Into_The_Odd_v1.1.zip" for this mission. If you already downloaded the original version, uninstall it and delete it, and install the updated version.

There is no fire in this room, a locked door and a Mech blast door, which is the door I'm pretty sure I'm meant to go through but it's shut fast, but there is a slight flashing around the edges of the Mech blast door that imply there could be a fire behind that door. What opens the Mech blast door?

    Location: somewhere, probably
I had the same problem. Ended up getting the 1.1 version and then it was already open.

    You've got to be joking.....

I've checked Dromed and there is not meant to be a Mech blast door in that room, well yes there is but it's teleported into place when you open the door leading to the underground aqueduct, which is the door I accidentally opened using the engine exploit bug, so I have inadvertently sabotaged my own gameplay......

    Evil, evil, evil....

Wow, I can't believe how many people are finding that exploit. None of the testers found it, and there were quite a few.
Seems v1.0 can be easily game-breaking. Best to play the new one, if you haven't.
