    TMA20AC Mission — My Favorite Year (Mar 27, 2020)

This thread is for any discussion or questions related to the mission My Favorite Year by Morendrum.
You can download the mission HERE or HERE.
    The contest thread is HERE.

Please give clues instead of outright solutions when helping others and use the spoiler tag when you do this.

Remember that this mission, and by extension every mission made for the contest, is for THIEF 2. As such, do not load it with Thief 1/GOLD! It is highly recommended you do not use the Enhancement Pack and/or HD texture packs to play this mission. It is also recommended you uncheck all optional features T2Fix comes with if you update to the latest version of the full executable.

What a great mission so far but one question: I'm in the basements office and the bookshelf to the right seems like it can be manipulated, I assume a hidden switch somewhere, am I right? And if I am, can someone please tell me where it is, I've searched the whole place and couldn't find anything

    Very nice little mission

    Supremcee:
Check the inside of the safe. If you haven't found that, look around more in the basement office.

This mission is the ultimate compact multi story maze haha but it's the good kind of maze where every step is different and soaked with atmosphere.

Nice FM, enjoyed the wine and grabbed 4221/5201 playing hard.

Lovely little mission, very well crafted, reminds me the early FM scene. Impressive work considering it was made in 3 weeks.

Just a FM. No puzzles, no drama, nothing. Just go in, run through doors, find a key or two to open some doors, open doors, close doors, door doors and eventually find needed objects.
How many doors does this FM have?

Possibly bug: The safe in Russel Andrew's office is openable with "Basement key"

When I played this last night, the safe was unlocked. Perhaps you just frobbed it with the key before trying it to see if it was locked?

That's harsh, can't you appreciate good level design and atmosphere? Even if this mission doesn't have too much going for it, IMO it is still in the upper echelon, in at least the top 10% of all fan missions ever released.

That is possible, actually. I don't remember when was the last time when I tried to open the safe by simple frobbing

    Very enjoyable

Exactly the type of mission I love - running around hunting for loot and dodging a lot of guards (ok then - bashing them on the head). As ever, I'm considerably short of maximum loot, and I can't find the clientele list. Any hints? I thought it would be in the basement office, but if it is, I can't find it.

*EDIT* Found it. Secret switch operated safe, in an office but not the basement one.

Still about 700 short of full loot, though.

3 weeks? Kudos to the author!

Yeah, this was a fun bit of Thiefy goodness. Liked the unexpected twists and turns through the map, and a fair bit of good atmosphere reminiscent of Shipping.. and Receiving/Thieves Guild. The office safe was also unlocked for me.

I played this last night and I have to say I was pretty impressed. I love missions like this one that seem simple and unassuming but are actually really well designed and the gameplay is fun. They fit like a favorite well-worn shirt. Loved the tight quarters, the layout of the warehouse and living areas tucked away throughout, especially the attic areas, greenhouse, secret passages, etc. Best I can say is that I just had fun.

This is OK mission. This is 4th entry and finally it's not a city mission. And to my surprise this is first entry (so far) that used weather. As for the mission - it's enjoyable, but there is nothing special. There is no climbing boxes, no code locks or anything that would make this mission special. I think it would be good idea to put watcher to observe boxes.

Mission beat it in 57 min and I got 4786 loot.

Darkloader being woefully out of date, perhaps.

The FM archive is a .7Z file which is not supported by DarkLoader. For safety reasons I only go online with LINUX, the LINUX archive program Engrampa allows saving the DL'ed file as a ZIP, so I could install this FM with DarkLoader as usual. Had no probs playing this one.

Why bother with all that stuff and not simply use FMsel ?

A.Stahl you´re being too harsh, try to make a mission yourself and you´ll see how work one has to give in order to have a decent FM.

Mission finished in 24 minutes, had a nice experience , warehouses are not really my thing but i found this one interesting to explore , everything seems to be in place, though i would have added more visual information, objects, decorative elements, textures...etc. some secrets and new surprises would have been also nice.

Anyway i´ll give a good note/vote to this one.

Nice, straightforward, well designed mission. I think of all the entries I've played so far, this one may be closest to an OM feel.

Agreed. Seemed straight forward but with hidden depths, some clever ways to get around, hidden paths that I didn't realize were open from the other side, and a non-secret secret I only learned about here. A very comforting mission.

As said before, this one is a comforting mission. With true Thief2 ambients, quality yet not the greatest design, and fun gamepley. It is fun, it is pleasant and it is relaxing. Something really thiefy and not asking too much from the player. Really enjoyable one!! Looking forward to play more missions from the author!
