Is there any way to play missions in Olddark despite having Newdark installed?

Is there any way to play missions in Olddark despite having Newdark installed? I heard somewhere that people making dml fixes can somehow revert to Olddark to test how missions function normally, so they could do dml fixes for Newdark. Can somebody explain how to do that?

TFix supports the NewDark exe and the oldDark exe coexisting in one TG install (saves and settings will be stored separately), so if you want to play a level using the new engine, and then the old engine, you can do that (maybe even at the same time).

not quite sure what do you mean by that dml part - I mean yeah, if you want to apply a dml fix to an oldDark mission using the oldDark editor, you should be able to do that, unless the fix includes something only available under NewDark.

not at the time afaik, but you could request it, it's not that difficult to add.

//looks like it is after all. forgot about it completely, it seems.

I have Thief Gold with TFix 1.27 and I have searched the folder, but I don't really see how to activate Olddark.

If you have both games on steam and use windows 10, it is trivial to get OldDark working. You just install them off steam and you should be good to go. From there you (unfortunately) have to use darkloader and tell it to use both of those games' installations, you know the drill.

This is how I was able to play older Thief Gold FMs like Shadow of Doubt, Returning a Favor and Bloodstone Prison recently. I mean, I could have just played on ND for all of them but I just wanted that "nostalgic" experience and to see if I could still get an OD FM setup in 2020. I haven't necessarily tried this for T2 but I can play OD T2 pretty easily through the base install so I assume it should be simple enough.

legacy executables need to be selected when patching up. you'll get both the DDFixed and the original exe.

Just use the OD install from Steam with Darkloader and a portable version of NewDark for other FM loaders. Not that complicated.

If you figure it out i'd like to use this method to play thief gold "return to the cathedral level" using OLD DARK only.

there is one piece of loot that absolutely must be skipped for ghost mode using newdark.

Just like voodoo47 said, when installing TFix choose custom install and select legacy executables. Then check your Thief 1 folder for DDFixed exe and original exe.

The Tfix installation with OD is not really the original experience but a garbled mess of "fixed" levels that then occur in OD.

Just make a copy of your Thief folder, one with Tfix, the other not, and a backup of the OD folder. If you have the feeling that Darkloader messed too much around with it, then just use the backup or restore it via Steam.

sadly doing this breaks the mission loading when the prior mission savegames used newdark.
    I'll just skip the loot.

yes, oldDark can't load NewDark saves, that's why they are stored separately. ND however should be able to load oldDark saves, so if you start an oldDark playthrough, and decide to switch to ND later, you can move your saves from the oldsv folder to the saves folder and they will probably work ok.
