This is amazing, but I wonder if it would have been better to not number the missions. As missions are added or edited they would offset the counts, and that would be very tedious work to edit this list.

For example, #347 Jenivere De Ja Vu isn't part of the Love Story series. Or is the list automatically numbered?

Yes. And i did send a PM to greenhawk about "The Sister", it isn't in the list.

I was sure that Jenivere De Ja Vu is a part of the Love Story series. Fixed !

    P.S.
    List is automatically numbered

While I appreciate the intentions of these types of channels, I really do think it would be a lot better and respectful to the authors to show off said missions as they intended - No texture pack mods. You have every right to use and play them, taste is subjective, but when trying to be a sort of "showcase" for FMs it should be from a neutral standpoint.

I'm sure the amount of effort it took to do all this is immense, so for that I am impressed and appreciate it, but I do hope you (and the other channels) could keep this in mind going forward.

It's not showcase or something "official", it's just a preview (e.g. first 1-5 minutes of gameplay and then some "screenshots" from different locations), which helps pick up the mission to play. Even more, if someone decide to add all these links to some existing megathread - this thread may be consumed.

IMHO nothing wrong to use HDMOD in this case.

I have to agree with Psych0sis here. You've even got vids of several of the recent T2 contest missions, a contest that explicitly stated that only stock textures were to be used. Most of these missions look very different than what the authors intended, when using the HD mod.

Definitely, a preview that ignores the mission's readme is inherently less valuable than the one that does. A number of the showcased missions contain explicit notes in the readmes stating that they should be played vanilla. There is nothing wrong with using the HDMOD only if the mission is meant to be played with it.

Greenhawk, what you've described is literally a showcase. You went out of your way to even document every video you've recorded and number them, like a showcase/display would. There's even download links, mission descriptions, tips on how to run it/what is included inside the zip files, and mission thread/loot list links all contained within every video. And now you've made a thread and subsequently had no qualms with it potentially being a sticky/links added to current FM lists (when brought up), which would ultimately have it be seen as "official" to anyone who would stumble upon this.

If your intention is to "help people pick up the mission to play" and you create a showcase like this one, you really ought to do it as closely to the author's intention as possible if you want to be respectful. As it is now, it's like if you were hosting an art gallery(showcase) but changed all the colors in the paintings to ones you preferred. I can tell you as it is now that there are quite a few authors not pleased with how their missions are displayed(showcased) here and on other similar channels. All I'm asking is to keep this in mind.

I admit, at first I didn't see "the big deal" with HDMOD, etc.
    But...

No one in their right mind would call this a Da Vinci:

It sounds like some conspiracy theory :-) My simple mind cannot calculate such complicated moves :-)

I think if I add a note about HDMOD it will solve the problem. Wouldn't it ?

I think that would make a good bit of difference, but I'm sure some authors will continue to be upset. Here's a boiler plate that you could add to all of the video descriptions:

Note that this video was made with the following mods: HDMOD (plus anything else you're using). The video may therefore not accurately reflect the mission, as originally intended by the author.
Ultimately, my view is that authors must recognize that their work may not be enjoyed as intended, once made publicly available. Mods represent one potential departure from an author's intentions, but so do divergent gameplay choices. For example, if someone makes a mission designed to facilitate tense ghosting, and someone uploads a rambo-esque play through, that would also misrepresent the intent of the mission. Ditto if a player finds engine exploits to avoid puzzle-solving in a puzzler. It's not obvious to me why the use of HDMOD is substantively different from these examples. (But yes, I think a disclosure in the video descriptions would be a nice gesture.)

I think there's a big difference between what an individual player might do when they play a mission privately, compared to a 3rd party showcasing the same level the to public and completely misrepresenting it.

I'm a bit torn on this entire thread, as it appears greenhawk put a ton of work into their project. At the same time, it doesn't sit well with me that authors, who also put a ton of work into creating their levels, may be having their creations distorted or falsely displayed.

Like Brethren, I am also torn. I definitely recognize the immense work put into this list, and what a potentially huge benefit it could be to the community. But to make a decision to use such a drastic mod to all the missions is very strange indeed. This mod has a very different look from anything stock derived and sometimes changes the appearance entirely. The note about the HDMOD helps, but knowing that the whole list features this mod makes it a lot less useful, at least for me personally. I would be interested in seeing snippets of the author's vision, not snippets of a modification of it.

As for me, casual player, HDMOD is a huge step up of visual improvement of the game. And I was sure there was nothing wrong to use it in the project.

There is nothing wrong playing ANY mission with the HDMOD if one wants to do so. Itís ridiculous to tell someone what they can or canít do. You donít like it donít use it. But if someone does they have every right to use it.

No one is telling anyone whether they can play with it or not on their own time, don't miss the point of what we're saying here. However, when you are trying to show off missions via a channel like this, you should do it as close to what the author intended. It's just being respectful to their vision and months(even years) of work they spent carefully creating the mission with their specific textures, alignments, objects and everything you can imagine in mind.
