    Inventory Wording

Apologies for blundering in here. Iím not sure where to ask this.

Does anyone know if itís possible to easily increase the size of the wording shown under an Inventory Item at the bottom Right Hand Corner of the screen in Thief2 (such as by editing a cfg file)?

My eyesight isnít as good as it used to be and I sometimes misread. A good example was in a recent Thief2 game where having found the important Emberglow Crystal (needed for an objective) I misread it as being an Emerald Crystal and kept on searching. DOH!

A similar option for Thief Gold would be useful.

    Many thanks.

(Yes I ought to get spectacles, I know, but during lockdown Iím avoiding close contact as much as possible. Normally it's obvious what's there from the graphic but once in a while I resort to a large magnifying glass which is how I discovered my mistake. )

In cam_ext.cfg, there's the following section:

; enable scaling of in-game 2D overlay (HUD), makes the things like current item/weapon text, or SS2
; HUD/panels, larger at resolutions of 1280x960 or higher with pixel perfect scaling (requires "use_d3d_display")
; NOTE: Enabling scaling may actually improve performance, especially at high resolutions.
    ;d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 16
; alternatively a fixed 2D resolution can be defined, which is aspect ratio corrected and scaled up
; to the current resolution, without enforcing pixel perfectness (ie. filtering makes it a bit less crisp)
    d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 640 480

The values of the two d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay lines may differ in your file, but try uncommenting one or the other (by removing the ; at the beginning) and experimenting with different values. "d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 640 480" works well for me, it makes all the HUD text comfortably large to my eyes, but ymmv.

Thank you for your swift and very precise reply.
In my case the two lines were
    ;d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 64
    ;d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 640 480
and I followed your example and unremarked the 2nd line and it worked in Thief2.
I then did the same for Thief Gold and that worked too.

I had to look up the meaning of ymmv.
I have a lot to learn

    Thanks again. much appreciated.
