    Thief Object Repository revisit

Really fed up with Yahoo and since I am not working at the moment, I am going to discontinue my web hosting in a week or so.... that means the Thief Object Repository is going to go away... If anyone has the means and desire to copy it all over and host it, please let me know... otherwise it will have to go quietly into the night.

    New Site: http://thiefor.epizy.com/

Well, that's a shame. It was good while it lasted. I know a lot of people put a lot of work into saving great objects into it. So I hope that someone takes you up on the offer to rehost it.

In any event, thank you for hosting it for so long. It was generous of you.

How much space does it need, and do you have a rough figure for bandwidth requirement?

If it's small enough, it could maybe just be stored on a Google Drive or something?

Also, are you able to package/zip it all up for someone before your hosting is cancelled?

What about a donation page so we can all chip in for the hosting fee?

Part of the issue is I am fed up with yahoo webhosting... so keeping it here is still not an option.

I was finally able to download the site, it is a wordpress site so I downloaded the SQL database as well... the actual data is just shy of 2.5 GB.

That link redirects to suspended-website.com, and then to something similar.

You could also try https://infinityfree.net, they have free hosting plans.

I have about 150GB free on my server, and can host TOR without problem, for free. I can't give you shell access, but otherwise I'd be happy to host it and have you retain wordpress admin access. If you'd like to try that, I can give you a location to sent the data to and I'll bring it up at, say, https://thiefobjs.starforge.co.uk/ or something?

I'm now able to log in. On the original site I had several accounts with different user levels (author, contributor etc) to occasionally test things. Only the default admin account is working, but that's not a problem right now. I'm not sure if the current one is admin, or if it's just that the new site isn't fully up and running yet, but I don't see many options on the dashboard. I can understand if you'd prefer not to have too many cooks just yet.

I will make sure your account is admin.

also feel free to customize it as you see fit, I am working on trying to recover my main site which will take most of my time.

Thanks, I now have admin powers back.

Does your backup contain a list of plugins that were in use? For the old site I installed a category tree plugin so the list could be reduced/expanded, but there are so many category plugins it's hard to search for the right one.

Also, I uploaded the content but have no idea (yet) how to relink the articles to the files...

I've edited the theme a bit and given it a black background. Wasn't able to restore the original link colour but the grey text actually looks okay, but may need brightening.

Some sort of mass find/replace think will need doing with posts because all the URLs still point to the old site.

That's probably true... the problem is I am a C++/# programmer.... not so much a SQL one...heh. Much Googling will be required .

There seems to be a plugin for that:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-search-replace/

I'm happy to give it a go but you're the only one who can restore things if it goes wrong.

    edit: Theme restored!
I thought the original theme was called Twenty Twelve so I installed that and tried and failed to edit the colours. I'd been using the wayback machine to compare so today I had the idea of looking at the css there, and then from the filenames discovered the required theme was actually called Twenty Eleven. I installed that and immediately saw that it has a built in 'dark mode' setting, so all I had to do was change the link colour and background images. I wish I'd done that first because I spent ages using the wrong theme, but it's done now so it's not the end of the world.

I hope the site is up soon. Some links did not work before, such as the lamp cages. Would be nice to download them.

I've just run the search/replace tool I mentioned, and it seems to have successfully edited the download links so they start at the current site instead of the old one. Some links are working, some aren't. I think that just a case of those files not having been uploaded yet (2.5GB in total).
