    Russia invades Ukraine

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60503037

    What the fuck Russia?

If anyone here is in Ukraine or has loved ones who are, I hope they are safe.
This is some bullshit we could really do without right now.

Today we had some random rocket/air strikes on strategical areas (in most cases military bases, but not always) across Ukraine.
What will be next - big cities?
It's really hard to say where exactly is safe in Ukraine now - we don't know what's going on inside "it" head.

So far, Ukrainian forces are succesfully restrain (better or worse) russian forces attacked from Russia and Belarus - let's hope it will continue.
Ukrainians are not frighten or panic, I would say - we all are really anger and furry for all this shit. We are ready protect our country.

I want to thank everyone who supports us, in one and another way. Without all your support, for all these years, who knows what will be with us today.
    THANK YOU!

    Слава Україні!

If there's any karma in the world (there's not; we have to stand up for justice ourselves or no one will), but if there were, this war will hopefully do what the most unjustified & imbecilic wars should always do which is drag the aggressor state into an impenetrable slog that rots the legitimacy of its government from within... It should be the USSR's Afghanistan and the US's Vietnam, take Putin down with it, and make Russia a punchline for the next generation or three.

More directly, I hope events conspire to end the suffering as quickly as possible. Wars are nothing but awful, but completely avoidable wars of choice the most awful of all. There is no reason for this to happen; not even a bad reason.

    This is really fucking upsetting.

Has anyone figured out what's the best place to donate to? I've seen some links floating around twitter but I'm always kinda wary when it's not to known names like Amnesty or whatever.

Once again, people are being killed in Europe due to imperial megalomania.

It's a little easier to spot the imperialist when they're repeatedly invading and annexing parts of the country being attacked.

Going through this thread, it's interesting how much parroting of the MSM there is (linking BBC, cmon) and how much people assume that history started yesterday. I may have over-estimated this place, I assumed people were at least a bit more aware.

This attack has been fermenting since 1999, 2004, and most importantly 2014 with the eastward expansion of NATO. Ukraine is of vital strategic importance to Russia, to US it's not. 2014 Maidan basically guaranteed Ukraine's imminent fate as the NATO spear-tip on the border of Russia. This is equivalent to Cuban Missile Crisis under the Monroe Doctrine, but worse, as it sits on the historical invasion corridor into Russia. Putin is moving to blunt the spear-tip. What happens next is still fluid but Putin is too smart to, even with Ukrainian military being circa 1980s quality, he won't go deep into Ukraine. Whitehouse will get what they want, which is the excuse to shut down Russian economic integration with EU. It will hurt Russia but their border will be secure with the creation of a buffer in Eastern Ukraine. The only real loser in all this is Ukraine, which has been a willing pawn in the fight between geopolitical elephants.

Honestly pleasantly surprised that it took until post #12 for NATO to be blamed for Putin's insane desire to recreate the USSR.

I really wouldn't be comfortable donating to any armed forces, but especially not one that's meant to be infamous for employing literal neo-Nazis, complete with swastikas.

I also feel like I really don't understand this conflict. So much propaganda and misinformation going around from all sides. Putin is a psychopath, the Ukrainian government seems to be full of fascists, the USA and UK have been fanning the flames of war for their own agenda... just feels like all the governments involved are some level of evil, though the Russians are the worst because they actually started the war (something I naively didn't think they'd actually do.)

The only thing I know for sure is that the people who are going to suffer the most are the innocent civilians who had nothing to do with starting the war.

It's no USSR, it's the Russian Federation before the '54 and the Kruschev "donation" of Donbass to Ukraine.

The "Country that elected a Jewish president with 73% of the vote are a bunch of Nazis" argument doesn't sound any more persuasive here than it did when Putin used it as a pretext for the invasion.

Well, I'm lazy and "USSR" is quicker to type than all of that.

Russia is farming out it's low level operative work and sometimes they are a bit slow. Give them a break. It's a busy time for them.

Unsurprisingly, the usual suspects are already trying to justify Russia's aggression:

Well, you can watch John Mearsheimer's talk on the leadup to the current situation in Ukraine. It was posted just 2 days ago. This guy is a foreign policy realist, that is to say that he believes the strong makes the rules, and the weak has to live with it (which is basically how US behaves in the world). There are two principal camps in the US foreign policy group. He is telling all this truth because he falls into the camp that wants to rehabilitate and pull Russia into an Anti-China coalition, but to do that US has to make concessions involving allowing Russia to further integrate with Western Europe. The end result is the obsolescence of NATO and an Europe independent from US that will inevitably challenge US hegemony. Well, his camp lost to the camp that wants to keep Europe under control while trying to contain China at the same time. The war with China has already been waging for a while now in areas of trade, tech, finance, diplomacy, and of course propaganda; all that fake news involving human rights, genocide, etc. is a part of the "new cold war."

For an average person to know the world as it exists at the top leadership level, the real world basically, is not easy. If you really want to get informed, study how the US monetary system works and how it cycles money through the banks, the corps, congress, etc. The wealth transference upwards is unprecedented, which is fueling all that talk of end-stage capitalism you probably heard recently in mainstream media. But of course they will never in a million years tell you the real reason.

Hmmm sanctions or WWIII... so hard to decide. You convinced me. Nuclear winter it is.

How about expel them from Swift and sanction Putin personally. Their stock market is down by 45%. Let's keep it that way.

Hm, to believe what I see on BBC News or Russian social media propaganda. I am so conflicted.
