What does the switch do in the Machine Room of Cragscleft?

There is a switch to the right of the lever in the Machine Room, before the Factory, in Cragscleft. It makes an electrical noise when you pull it, but I can't seem to figure out what it does. I tested to see if it stopped the mechanical eyes or the prevented the alarm, but negative as far as I can tell. Does anyone know?

It controls the animation and ambient sound of the Turbine object in the adjacent room.

Seems to serve no gameplay purpose, but perhaps it was intended to use the (planned/cut?) functionality where some rooms caused AI hearing to be less acute, on account of apparent ambient noise in the area.

that poor lifeless generator just wanted to run and have a purpose can it be fixed? what use could it have to help player?maybe shut lights off on way to offices where that one mage hides would be nice right after cell block 1

Thanks for checking, guys. It would've been interesting if there was a mechanic as such.

As for turning off the lights on the way to the barracks in the room with the priest, it's a torch rather than a lamp. He usually ends up being my only knockout in the level. I lean around the corner and knock him out without any alerts. You can just put the torch out, but I find it silly as he will react, and just continue to stand there in the darkness.

you right about torch but my idea with a light would have been better with generator switch to turn it off, then the mage once light was shut off starts a route back to switch to flip it giving you a limited amount of time to pass by,so by the time you get done in barracks he would most likely be where he started making exiting barracks harder

    ^^^just an idea
