FYI, the invite to the Dromed Discord server is already stickied at the top of the forum.
I want to post this in case anyone looks at this forum and goes "oh, I guess nobody is making FMs anymore." Not true: everyone is on the Discord. Just a heads up.
Here's the invite: https://discord.gg/xSM4zpG
So yeah.
FYI, the invite to the Dromed Discord server is already stickied at the top of the forum.
Oh yeah I know. I'm just sayin' everyone is there.
So instead of having the knowledge of the DromEd community organized and browsable, it's now jumbled and ephemeral. Galaxy-brain move, guys. No better way to commit slow community suicide than this.
I also prefer the forum for a number of reasons (for what it’s worth). But I’m not really very active with DromEd anymore anyway, so my opinion is probably irrelevant.
No offense to any discord frequenters, but as far as I'm concerned, I just don't care for how it's set up.. Like someone mentioned, there's just no organization there. There's a search feature, but you just get either too much or too little info.
The one upside for me, is you can usually get an answer to something fairly quick, but it just doesn't make up for how great TTLG filled that need before. It's sad that so many have switched there, but I understand the desire to have "real time" feedback, too.
It's a Catch-22. :-(
It's very sad that this forum is almost dead
My english is not very good and I often use an online translator. So I would be completely wrong in an english chat.
It's worth pointing out that a lot of the people on Discord still check this forum, so posts still get answered. But because the forum looks dead, nobody posts.
It's also worth pointing out that Discord does have some major benefits, like Hit Deity mentioned. If you ask a question, you'll get an answer nice and quick. But I mean, Christine can't benefit from it. Christine!
We need to have a conversation about our stewardship.
It's also worth mentioning that this forum is already a treasure trove of knowledge that can easily be searched for, and it's not going anywhere. I, and no doubt many other authors, still regularly use this as a resource to search.
Having a Discord channel just means people get more immediate answers to basic/subjective questions and feedback. There's plenty of room for both.
Ok, well, I don't plan on abandoning this site again anytime soon. It feels like home to me, and I regret losing touch with it more than you can know.
I've been away for a long time (just downloaded the Discord app to PC), and don't mind checking both resources. However, searching my old TTLG posts is invaluable for refreshing my editing knowledge.
Everyone is on the Discord server? No, not everyone ... at least me not. And if everyone would be there this posting would be as useful as a hole in the head .
Seriously:
This server is still the best source of information and a good point for exchange of ideas. No thanks, my accounts here (and on ttlg.de and ariane.fr) are enough.![]()
Really, it's OK to use both.
I am not on Discord, and the reason is - it does not accept me! The automated answers I always got contained some whining without telling me what actually is the problem, and these answers also included a sad smiley covering a lot of my screen. That's about as helpful as showing me a photo of a large-sized heap of dog feces.
Our family has had this before, though, and we suspect it's because our family name includes the letters "porn". When my brother had this problem once, he used another name, and could use some other service which was refusing him before that. But as long as I cannot change my mail address to something that does not have my family name in it, I guess you won't see me on Discord.

I used to be on Discord, but I deleted my account, it was too distracting with all the irrelevant posts and memes. While Discord is more useful for beta testing missions (because it allows you to share media such as screenshots and videos) as well as quick questions and answers, it lacks the formal and organised structure of the forums. But well, what can I say... we are living in the age of social media and instant gratification, so I am not surprised that many people gravitate towards Discord.
I don't like Discord![]()
discord sucks. its a terrible piece of software and a really shitty company that is aiming to own and control as many community spaces as it can.
and yet because people are there and its convenient for real time chat, its still useful and im gonna use it. but im making more of an effort to keep posting things that arent just ephemeral chat here. a flawed approach, but hey. cause i learned a shitton about making thief missions from trawling the archives here—if this forum hadnt existed and thered only been a discord, that wouldve been impossible.
forums are slow and inconvenient but they rock
While I understand the fear of the new things and the change of what we're used to, showing hostility to Discord doesn't make such sense.
The Dromed Discord server isn't and will never be a TTLG 2.0 made to replace it nor kill the community. It's just an alternative tool with its own advantages and drawbacks.
If you want a quick answer about something and upload pictures to show your problem or error message, Discord is much better. But if you want a tutorial, of course, TTLG would still be a better place.
Saying "I would never go to Discord because I don't want to kill TTLG" would be the same as saying "I would never take a plane because it would kill the car industries." Anyone knows flying vehicule would not make people stop using the wheel. It goes the same for forums and instant chat.
As long as both are used for their right advantage, it's entirely fine. We don't need a trial.![]()
