The world is a much sadder place today because of Jeff's passing. He could get maximum genius out of a single note.
RIP Jeff Beck. If anybody sang through his guitar it was this guy.

He made it seem effortless.
I especially love that he is pretty much furthest back in the mix on that track.
Jeff Beck is a guy who, it seems everyone knows his name, and his reputation as a musician is off the charts, but I admit I don't know much of his actual music. Anyone have suggestions on some albums I should check out?
When I hear his name, I always think of the scene in Risky Business where Tom Cruise take his dad's Porsche out for a joy ride ("The Pump" by Beck is playing in the background).
He's played a variety of different styles. My favorites are the albums he did in the mid-70s with Max Middleton, Blow by Blow and Wired. They are a blend of funk and fusion.
RIP
Seconding Wired and Blow by Blow (they're the only two I bought). I'm admittedly not the biggest Jeff Beck fan, but every so often it feels good to revisit and remind yourself how great a guitarist he is (was). Listen to the track Nicker posted, and that should tell you if it's for you.
Here's something a little more recent to check out:
I love Ronnie Scotts. I need an excuse to go to London.
