Problem in Thief 2-Life of the Party

In Thief 2, in the Life of the Party mission, after I get the Cetus Amicus plans, I start having problems with my weapons. At first I can't draw my bow, even when I'm clicking on the left mouse button (which is how I have my controls set up). Within a few minutes, the game freezes or crashes if I try to bring up my weapons. Even my saves are becoming corrupted. I have played this game many times and never encountered this problem before. This is my first time playing with the T2Fix patch, including the Enhanced Thief 2 graphics mod. Has anyone encountered this kind of problem before? I am running Windows 10.

Are you playing from disc or Steam? If you're playing from disc, you need to set processor affinity to 1 processor. I found this to solve the issue for me in 8.1 and 10. Had the same issue with TG.

Go into msconfig, select "boot" tab, click "advanced options", click the "number of processors" checkbox and make sure "1" is selected in the dropdown. Click Apply and then reboot your system. When you're done, go back in and uncheck the box and reboot again to get back up on all processors.

Actually, I'm playing the GOG version with the T2Fix patch. Should I try your suggestion anyway?

System Won't Let Me Do That

When I tried to change the boot settings, the system told me that it would go into safe mode next time I booted it and that I would have to provide a key or password to recover the computer. I don't have access to that kind of thing.

no. the GOG version does not need this fix (and i think by default the Steam version is fine too). and certainly after applying T2Fix the newdark version of the exe it installs also does not need this fix.

do not do this to deal with the multicore cpu bug in olddark versions of thief! using msconfig like this affects everything running on your pc, not just thief.

if you really want to run the original, olddark, disc versions of thief/thief2 on a multicore system without using ddfix, you should use imagecfg to patch the exe for cpu0 affinity, exactly like the ut99 example on that site. no system-wide changes needed; no rebooting required.

this sounds like the game's memory is being corrupted while it is running; but i couldnt tell you why. i cant suggest anything except to try disabling the mods.

The Steam version is definitely Old Dark, so you'll want to patch that up unless you're stubborn.

Actually, although I had this problem every time after getting the Cetus plans in Life of the Party, I managed to complete the mission, and in the next mission, Precious Cargo, the problem had resolved and my weapons were working again. I just hope this doesn't happen again.

One more thing, I'm playing the game on a laptop. I don't know if this should have any effect like what I've reported.

the steam version comes with ddfix which i believe applies the affinity fix already. though there would be no harm in using imagecfg on it as well.

(still, all moot because op is using t2fix to get newdark exes which dont need the cpu affinity fix.)

if there are crashes, then there should be crashdumps and logs. post them? using any additional mods perhaps?

also the steam build is a wreck, it's the hybrid 1.07/1.18 version with outdated DDfix, do not want.

Can you elaborate on that a little? I've been using the Steam version, and I've patched it with T2Fix, but if it's going to cause issues later on, I'd like to know about it now rather than later.

this only matters if you are running unpatched - T2Fix will get everything up to date, no matter the source.

I tried this and it doesn't work, at least for me anyway. For clarification, this applies to the disc version only. My Steam copies of TG and T2 work fine on multicore.
