Elon now tops Trump for the most unpredictable antics.

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-09-...roup/102820786

Basically Musk wants to sue the Anti-Defamation League, saying that it calling out hatespeech has caused Twitter revenues to drop.

The logic clearly escapes me, since the ADL has been calling out hatespeech on all platforms for many decades, yet revenues have risen and fallen irrespective of their criticism.

It's hard to believe but we found a guy with thinner skin that Donald Trump, who swings around wildly looking for unlikely people to blame when the consequences of his own actions have caused the whole shitshow.

"Based on what we've heard from advertisers, ADL seems to be responsible for most of our revenue loss," he wrote, adding that the group "would potentially be on the hook for destroying half the value of the company, so roughly [US]$22 billion."
So let's get the details straight, he's saying his platform is being unfairly accused of antisemitic bias, so his response is to claim a Jewish advocacy group are actually evil masterminds who pull the strings of global corporate power and caused all his advertisers to run away, costing him half the value of the company.

Elon Musk's "I'm not antisemitic, and I didn't destroy the company - it was all the Jews".

Antisemitism has gone through the roof recently. The ADL are bang on the money and Twitter is picking a fight it won't win if it persists down this path.

Take this guy for instance (don't click if you're squeamish about hate speech)

I reported one of his posts and was informed that by Twitter that he "hasn’t broken our safety policies".

It's the same story with many other reports I've made, including genocide denial.

Unfortunately you have to have a Twitter account to see what's in the link and I don't. Just as well though because it's all the same crap that the same kind of people spew year after year.

Not being able to see the Tweets without an account is the only change I approve of, since it makes it an easier choice for me to basically ignore the whole platform.

Clearly the main reason for that is that if more people are logged in then the data they harvest is worth more to advertisers, while also meaning less actual page views, so operating costs drop relative to advertising revenue.

So it's short-term smart in that it increases the ratio of advertising-dollars vs server-costs, but it's unknown whether it's long-term smart in terms of people actually wanting to get an account in the first place.

It is nice to ignore Twitter by not being able to see anything without an account.

That makes sense but they are definitely missing advertising views, but I can see how the marketing team is better able to quantify results so they can keep their jobs.

Haha, Elon isn't about to let Unity get away with being the most vilified company of 2023.

X owner Elon Musk today floated the idea that the social network formerly known as Twitter may no longer be a free site. In a live-streamed conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Musk said the company was “moving to a small monthly payment” for the use of the X system. He suggested that such a change would be necessary to deal with the problem of bots on the platform.

“It’s the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots,” explained Musk. “Because a bot costs a fraction of a penny — call it a tenth of a penny — but even if it has to pay…a few dollars or something, the effective cost of bots is very high,” he said. Plus, every time a bot creator wanted to make another bot, they would need another new payment method.

Musk didn’t say what the new subscription payment would cost, but described it as a “small amount of money.”

    Doooo iiiit

Apparently we can't kill your platform Mr. Musk because too many people are on it and don't want to leave until everyone else does first, but you sir, you still can.

Get on the Blue Sky Boat before it leaves the station CHOO CHOO

Ok, I finally got on BlueSky. It seems to have good momentum at the moment, and I hear video support is coming soon.

I've found a few TTLGers already, but perhaps there's more of you lurking out there?

I added you! I've had too much free time at work lately and have been browsing Twitter more than I should. This is probably a bit of a lateral move, but at least Elon's not here.

BlueSky has video support now! (tho just rolled out to some random users initially, your's truly included) Limited to 50MB, but that's good enough for my needs.

Now it just needs pinned posts.

    And GIF support.

And for everyone on twitter to get their butts over here.
