New T2 FM 9/14/2023 Towers of Twilight

    Garrett's briefing:
"I was hired to find the Codex of the Abyss. According to legend, the Codex is an ancient book of
dark magic bound in man-skin leather. Sounds charming. Its last known location was the Valley of
Sarnoth, probably in one of the old tombs scattered about the landscape. I was hoping to find some
additional valuables along the way as well.

Unfortunately I got off track in the mountains. Now I'm lost with no idea which way to go. While I
was climbing down a cliff face, I fell into a fast-moving river and most of my equipment got washed
away. At this point, my main concern is just to survive and get back home. But if I can still find
the Codex, maybe this trip won't end up a complete waste of time."

Note: This is a large mission with a lot of places to explore. Don't expect to finish it in an hour or two...maybe not even in the first evening. There is a ton of loot, but the mandatory requirement is reasonable (I hate when people have to search an extra half hour just to find that last coin). For those of you that like to find all the loot...prepare for a serious challenge!

    Many thanks to the Beta-Testers:
    - Angder
    - Dale
    - Mat99
    - Mikko
    - lordhern, aka Myles

A very special thank you goes out to Dale (TDash). Without his help, this mission would never have seen the light of day (or would have been at least 30% less awesome).

    Have fun!
    -Pete

dkessler: The plaque under the wand is a randomized name, so I can't be sure which one you need.

Thanks for release1 So nice to have another horror-themed fan mission out there now.

I am stuck early in this mission at these three points, so moderate spoilers would be advised:

    1. I didnīt found the lever to open the metal gate down in the first building. The only way seems to be the corpse slide into the lava pit, if I am carefully, but is this intended?

Solution: There are at least two ways: First one is to gather the lever from the room with the deadly statues, see below.
Second one is to explore the cave which comes after the crypt.

    2. Is there a way to block the view of the deadly statues? They seem to be frobable, but I didnÂīt found a matching object by now.

Solution: Hold the right mouse button to turn them around.

    3. Where is the Priest guarding the lock? I assume it is the tomb with the white little mausoleum and 2 blue-ish torches on the wall. If I douse them with water arrows, they reignite, but nothing happens.

Solution: Hammerite statue. Doue the latern with a water arrow to see the keyhole.

there is another way; go explore more and you will find it

look around the walls near the statue carefully

dkessler: There is no way to get the wand.

Thinking Robot: Who are the priests in the world of Thief? You should see a statue of one in there someplace.

Ah, now I got it, the hammerite statue near the tombs entrance. I searched the walls in this room, but sadly I didīt found anything.

Remember the lock "hides in the light". If you need a blatant spoiler after a bit, PM me.

    Okay, almost done.
I got 2 of 3 powerstones (Amethyst and Emerald) and now I am looking for the third one.

Edit, found the third powerstone (Citrine)

Spoiler: Big building behind the lake with the big iron door and missing lever - into the crypt, room to the right in chest. Climbing required.

Finished this mission and the only thing I have to say: it is amazing!

What a lovely fan mission you put there. It was rich of cool riddles and I really enjoyed searching for clues. And they were really cool. Also the gadgets Garrtt finds later in this mission - especially the keeper keystones granting the ability to teleport - these opened a window to a pretty novel gameplay experience by accessing rooms and evading otherwise impossible traps (they can be found in the keeper library, top floor). The partial invisible keepers reminded me of the tech fraction from "Seven Shades of Mercury (Hammerite Imperium saga). And the Lava Beast from the demo with the same name also had a debut.
From an architectural perspective, the scenerey was lovely. I loved the well-detailed mage castle sitting behind a large lava ocean, perfectly fitting into the cavernous landscape.

    Definitely a top tier mission.
